Capcom asks: how about Dead Rising 2?
With Dead Rising only a week old, Capcom is already breaking out the age-old question: how about a sequel? Eight questions into a survey on the title, Capcom poses the following question:If a sequel to this game were to be released, would you buy it?
- I would even buy a new console to play a sequel on if I had to.
- I would buy it if it came out on a console I own.
- I would wait and see how it is received first.
- I would want to play it, but wouldn't want to buy it.
- I wouldn't buy it.
If you take the survey, be sure to ask for online co-op. We'd love to see it.

I sure with Video Games just like Movies when the Scripts are written there is always a *Sequel* in mind... I'm pretty much willing to bet on it...
You only have so much time in a Movie and Game to tell a story, so why not make the story longer and spread it out so you get *More Bang for Your Bucks*...
Film more Movie at one time & Code more game at one time... Makes sense to me...
Divide it up and make each part work, then sit back and make millions...

I've played both the demo, and the full retail game (alas, only for about an hour), and I must say, I'd love to see a sequel. Especially with headset compatible co-op.
Despite the 'zombie game' staple, this is probably one of the more original games I've played in a while. I'd even go as far as to say that it's the first game i've played who's GAMEPLAY feels 'next generation'. It builds on old gameplay models, but vastly improves both form and function, giving us at once a familiar, and new, game experience.
As long as Capcom puts the same attention to detail and quality into a sequel that they did this game, I'd be glad to put my money down for it.

I can imagine the costume contests right now.

"With Dead Rising only a week old."
More like a day old.
jc @ Aug 10th 2006 2:52AM
Next Generation gameplay my ass. Having to hold the Right Trigger just to aim (switches to a completely different view) takes us back about 10 years. And then the save system is another gigantic pile of crap.
Love the game though. Almost beaten it. Just pointing out a couple things that make me want to light a kitten on fire

number 5: "Just pointing out a couple things that make me want to light a kitten on fire"
now THATS funny!

Does anyone know what's going on with 1UP? I mean, I hope it's a joke but I'm really not sure.
The ZeroCorpse @ Aug 10th 2006 3:53AM
How about one that's more like GTA, with the whole "sandbox" idea and a vast city or state to explore? Make it a little less hack-n-slashy, and a little more role-playish, and we're in business for a sequel.
PreZ @ Aug 10th 2006 5:25AM
Insane looking game hope to play it soon
boots @ Aug 10th 2006 5:28AM
How about making it cross-platform, for a change? That way we get to choose. Or better yet: Make it exclusive for the console that has the most potential. It's your choice, C(r)apcom! I don't even know how much my 360 will last after I get it back from Microsoft's repair engineers anyway, so it'll be swell to just have it as an option on a more reliable console.
benjamin @ Aug 10th 2006 7:06AM
Before they publish Dead Rising 2 I'd hope they make a patch to increase text size on 'low' resolution televisions. I just got DR yesterday and for the life of me I couldn't read a lot of the interface text.
I don't really care if it obscures more of the playing area, since it's largely temporary anyway, but Capcom *needs* to address this issue. I was completely unable to see what a lot of the interface text said as I got from the rooftop to the little security area.
My Dead Rising Demo Review @ Aug 10th 2006 7:21AM
Based on initial impressions, and assuming improvents in all areas (graphics and online) then yes I would buy a sequel to this already fantastic game.
A year or so from now with even more time on the engine and taking what they have learned from the first game they could deliver something truly stunning! Online/Lan co-op would be awesome and atmospheric as hell.
C, Ravitch @ Aug 10th 2006 7:35AM
All I can say is " Make it and They will Buy it!!" This is one of my Favorite games on the 360 and it's one of thoses pick up and play games that are fun no matter what you do in it. I hope that they do another one, heck I hope Capcom makes this a regular franchise!! It would be GREAT!!!
xbox360dsPSP @ Aug 10th 2006 8:15AM
A committed Sony fanboy told me that Dead Rising 2 is going to be available on the PS3. They can't wait and they're already trash-talking how bad the 360 version will look in comparison. Thousands of zombies, the ability to pick up anything, and online coop via Playstation Life -- typical fanboy stuff.
While the fanboys may speculate, Dead Rising is a game that will sell alot of 360s.
AlloyNES @ Aug 10th 2006 8:31AM
They should make it where 20 people can play together, but once you get killed bya zombie, you become one! It'd be like CoD2 Zombie, but with REAL zombies! Mwahahaha!
Jake Good @ Aug 10th 2006 8:34AM
If I could get the first game to work... without removing my HDD I might suggest a second one...
This game has a HUGE plague of bad discs and disc read errors with the only known community fixes being to format the HDD or remove it from the console.
Erwos @ Aug 10th 2006 8:41AM
It's having brisk sales out of the gate, to be sure - every GameStop/EBGames near me was sold out of it.
And, yeah, it definitely has quirks (unintuitive aiming system, harshly timed plot), but given its uniqueness and fun factor, it's hard to get too down on it. With a bit of tweaking, graphical enhancement, and multiplayer modes, it could really have a fantastic sequel. "Dead Rising: Death Downtown", anyone?
ncdign @ Aug 10th 2006 8:47AM
I'd love to see a sequel set in an entire town as the playing field. And Co-op is begging to be in this game.
Nossy @ Aug 10th 2006 9:01AM
Forget the sequel (for now) and release a patch for Live MP Play.
OH and holding the right trigger for aiming is a classic Capcom control configuration (if you've played any Resident Evil game in your life). I'm not a big fan of it, but it does give aiming a bit of challenge, but workable (and frustrating).
Diamond @ Aug 10th 2006 9:22AM
I second the comment about needing a patch for those of us with things like 27" TVs. The in-game non-cutscene text is completely impossible to read on my television, and as much as I love this game, I can't shell out the ungodly sums for something larger in the TV area for one specific game. Capcom, please, just give us a tiny patch to increase the font size!
32_Footsteps @ Aug 10th 2006 9:35AM
You know, keeping the controls consistent from the Resident Evil franchise is not a glowing recommendation.
I haven't played this game yet, but it is the first 360 title that really piques my interest. The apparent lack of absurd metaplot (again, RE) is a bit refreshing - as is the concept of taking out zombies with anything I can grab (I'm also hoping to be able to slam zombies into the environment - anyone able to tell me if you can use the stoves at the food court for ambulatory cremation?).
What would be really nice would be a level mod, where you could change the layout of the mall, where you could find weapons, and the like. If you created a sequel where you could modify existing levels, Capcom would be practically printing their own money.
Ethan Thomas @ Aug 10th 2006 9:58AM
To everyone who has complained about the font size, I say this: I feel your pain. I can't make it out on a 46" DLP HDTV, so I can only imagine what it must be like to play on smaller, standard TV's. Just as a side note before someone starts something by taking that the wrong way, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with standard TV's or bragging about my TV or any of that crap, ok? I'm just saying...with a large screen, I was still straining to read it.
As far as the game goes, it's pretty awesome. I got ahold of a lawnmower outside the mall...and I had alot of fun just mowing down zombies for about ten minutes. The only complaints I have about this game are:
1. Auto-aim = Where is it? I'd really have prefered the Resident Evil-esque method of pulling the right trigger and having auto-aim assist me in finding a target (as I remember, it did in the first Resident Evil at least...shame its been so long since I've played that game). Although, with that many zombies on screen, it might have been a tricky feature to implement, but surely something could be done to that effect. I always find myself aiming at the sky or ground as it is now. Its livable once you adjust to manually aiming, but at first, I was frustrated.
2. The save system = Worst save system EVER. I died after about forty minutes of gameplay last night and I have to restart the game from the first save point. NOT cool.
3. (SLIGHT SPOILER [maybe considered by some])The first boss = Why does he take a million shots? For the sake of not ruining anything, that's all I'll say.
Other than that, there's a ton of fun in this game and I would definitly buy the sequel, even just basing that decision on the very limited amount of time I have been able to spend with the game. I never had the chance to play the demo, so going into the full version with no clue what to expect...this game surpassed expectations. I can't wait to get out of work and put in some more time this afternoon. I highly recommend this game to zombie-fans and people who just want to experience a very fun, original game.
OtakuCODE @ Aug 10th 2006 10:18AM
Now now, step back for a minute and consider one thing: The company asking the question. This is Capcom we're talking about. If we show the slightest interest in their title, we'll be assaulted by it for DECADES.
Would you like Dead Rising 2 Turbo EX Reloaded in 2022?
That's what they're really asking. Capcom doesn't screw around when it comes to franchises, just look at Street Fighter.
DigitalMatrixIO @ Aug 10th 2006 11:55AM
Last night I had to tell about 10 people we didnt have any in stock and the store only got 20 in with about 5-7 for preorders.
GameDeals.ca @ Aug 10th 2006 12:09PM
Yes, a sequel would be nice, in an open (real) city GTA style. But first, they should focus on porting it to the Wii, a system people will actually own. Now that Nintendo is shaking the "kiddie" image, it shouldn't be a problem, and as much as I want to play this game (more than the demo I played), I'm not buying a 360 for this game only.
SuperChuck @ Aug 10th 2006 12:37PM
Sounds to me like the question they're really asking is:
Should we bother making one for PS3?
wakusei @ Aug 10th 2006 1:05PM
Dead Rising + Katana + Wii = :D
As a side note this game begs for multiplayer. Has anyone here played the "Zombies!!!" board game? You start at the town square and try to:
1) Kill a certain number of zombies before the other players. Or...
2) Make it to the helicopter to escape.
Not that they need to rip off someone's board game, but that just sounds like a good time on Live. The expansions to the board game even introduce zombie dogs...which can't be beat.
ZombieCreep @ Aug 10th 2006 1:15PM
Maybe in the sequel the can make the font even smaller. It's a fun game, the lawn mower is a nice touch, but I'm dissapointed that I can't read any of the text to play the missions.
Finished.Law.School @ Aug 10th 2006 11:24PM
I know that I would at least get the first one if it was released for PC...
aaron @ Aug 17th 2006 6:41PM
"number 8" I agree with dead rising mixed with GTA because it would make the game alot more fun and more people would buy it. There should also be online play with headset and online co-op as well.
Jason Anderson @ Aug 23rd 2006 12:41AM
When I saw this game in action, I literally went out and spent all my new computer money on a 32" LCD HDTV and a 360 just to play this game.
It was well worth it.
I would buy the second one day one. Unless it's on the PS3 only, then nah. Forget it. I'll wait.
Jeff @ Sep 4th 2006 7:42PM
I've only played the demo, and was in love in seconds. If after I've beaten the game and become bored, I'll still always have hours, days even, of entertainment killing hordes of the undead. For the second, online play is a must, and the RPG idea I hear earlier would be nice too. Sadly, the zombies were too easily killed. A knife? Against a zombie? Come now... let's be serious.
I'd LOVE to see the second, or even a spinoff of DR, set into an urban area on servers, where people can barricade themselves into houses and try to survive against endless swarms of zombies, until they are finally able to muster the power to throw off their cannibal assailants! (I.E. Have zombie spawns areas, like graveyards or something, that are nearly undefeatable at the start, but as the people form more effective strategies, and work more efficiently together, they are able to quarantine it, and take back their ruined city.)
Mike K @ Sep 22nd 2006 5:31PM
I've rented the game and the storyline was very intriguing and all--an irresistable mystery to solve, and overtime mode, but I only wonder about the difficulty of dealing with special ops troops, the annoying cultists, and these psychos that just come out of nowhere. I don't know how people end up going crazy in the midst of zombies, but it does make a legit challenge at least. Speaking of zombies, it's fair enough that they are slow and pretty weak individually (and dangerous as a group).
I would love to see a sequel for Dead Rising, and I also tend to agree to have the sequel as a city-wide variety (like GTA and Saints Row) and give the player a great deal of freedom of where to go, when to go, and what to do when they get there. Kill a zombie here and there, avoid a swarm, find some survivors, maybe even add a twist where one survivor is infected and unexpectantly turns... I really like the level system as it was before. Another interesting although not original idea-- have multiple main characters to choose from (including Frank West perhaps?). One other thought is the saving system. The sequel's doesn't need to be so limited like before, and who needs a "3 day" limit? I'm only asking for flexibility based on a player's style of approach: Whether to take time loading up a stronghold with weapons or to go immediately to respond to someone's distress. It's just an idea, but the point is to have the game progress with the player on his terms. Additionally, and on the other hand, it could start with a minimum amount of zombies, only few can be reached, and then as hours pass, more people turn and the streets turn into warzones and finally, after a virtual day or two, it becomes a fight for survival. It should be exciting to see how the sequel turns out after West did his part. Who will be the hero or heroine in the next epidemic?
