Anyone who is suggesting using emulators to play these games on the PSP is a moron. 100% speed? Please... The only way to get 100% speed out of the BEST emulator on the PSP (even when you have it overclocked to 333mhz) is to either play WITHOUT sound, or at half the normal frame rate. Ugh.

You're also forgetting that the majority of consumers either lack the knowledge or the desire to use emulators and roms. And considering many of the sites that promote the illegal (let's face it) act are chock full of porn, spyware and malware, you can be forgiven for cutting them a little slack for their "oversight."

"Why would anyone buy this crap?"

Someone could quite as easily ask the same question about any of the Virtual Console games Nintendo are going to release, or any of the Xbox Live Arcade games currently available. Or any game on the planet, for that matter. Not everyone likes the same games. This collection isn't to your personal liking? Suck it up. No one else cares.

At any rate, being able to play Mega Drive games on my PSP has been one of the prime factors in keeping me from updating my firmware. But with wind of this, in addition to the game line-up over the next year or so (including the PS1 games), and improved firmware features, Sony may well have just accomplished the impossible in convincing me to update, bidding farewell to the world of homebrew and its legions of loud mouthed, pimply-faced, ignorant, lazy 12-year-old groupies.

Bravo, Sony, bravo.

Also (from IGN):

"Genesis Collection also features numerous unlockable items that delve into the soul of the Genesis such as interviews with the original developers, a museum area with factoids about the titles, a hint area to help gamers achieve the golden werewolf form in Altered Beast, and SEGA arcade games from the Genesis era.

SEGA Genesis Collection for the PSP system marks the handheld debut of many of these games. The PSP's wireless function will allow Genesis fans to connect with friends for wireless, 16-bit multiplayer gaming."

Let's see you do all THAT on an emulator.

Spider-Man, Star Control, Syndicate, Toejam and Earl, X-Men 2: Clone Wars... I could go on and on...

But for those people interested in these Genesis games, but not interested in getting a Wii, this is a great set. Hopefully they will do a sequel as well and include more games.

As someone who's been playing since the 2600 came out, it makes me really happy to see that these games aren't being forgotten. I have most of the compilation sets available for Gamecube and PS2, and I'll add this one as well... even though I am getting a Wii, I'd like a new hard copy.

It would be easier if all of these were SEGA title, but it would be great if they were available at some point:

Thunder Force II, III, IV. MUSHA. Forgotten Worlds. Truxton. Jungle Strike. Desert Strike. Flashback. Space Harrier II. Revenge of Shinobi. Cyberball.

As others have said: Gunstar Heroes. Herzog Zwei. Star Control.

Normally I'm a 'No Going Back' zealot (really old games rarely pass muster when one returns to them), but I have to make one exception:

Madden '96... The one where you could *ahem* accidently injure opposing players AFTER the whistle. (I know it was unethical but when you were facing Jim Kelly's big arm in the Superbowl - having played a full season and post-season of 15 minute quarters - you just HAD to do whatever it took to win the big one.)

It was the reason I bought my Genesis/Megadrive all those years ago, and I'm both sad and proud to say that I played regular 12 hour sessions of that game.

I'd pay, maybe, £20 to be able to play that on the PSP.

"on the GP2x. Yeah, just as illegal as the modded XBOX, only portable. Like a Sega Nomad without the bulk or _battery_ problems."

lol..Well, it's still a better portable than PSP, by far.

I still prefer playing these on the PC with a Genesis-USB controller. (Mildly illegal, but I own them..)

One game that I couldn't stop playing for, quite literally, 6-8 hours on end was M.U.S.H.A. A top-scrolling, shooteverythingthatmoves fest, all to hardcore deathmetal. Pure, classic badass'dness that I wish they would have included.
