#8 Fight Night Round 3 (EA Sports) 85.2%

Please tell me that's a typo. Personally I love the DoA series but Fight Night Round 3 is _WAY_ better then DoA4...and this coming from someone that has never played a FN game until the 360 version.
Pc @ Aug 11th 2006 4:10AM
I personally thought that DOA4 sucked and is probably one of the worst titles on the 360 so far. Everything else on the list seems correct, however i can't really see geometry wars being a better title than Dead Rising !!! Cmon now :)
Heinrich @ Aug 11th 2006 4:17AM
That's a pretty weak line-up at this point in the console's life cycle.
Also out of these 10 there are only 3 exclusives (2 of them probably semi-exclusives).
The top 3 consists of ports.
Not to mention the sales numbers are down. yeah, it's hard to be an xbot now...
Vazel @ Aug 11th 2006 4:24AM
I want JRPGs!!! But i'll probably have to get a PS3 for that. X360 is still loads of fun though.
Hoystory @ Aug 11th 2006 4:27AM
Call of Duty 2 isn't a port. The X360 version is a completely different game than the Xbox/PS2 version.
worm @ Aug 11th 2006 4:27AM
how can KAMEO not be in there ??????????
Steve @ Aug 11th 2006 4:35AM
the 360 needs a fighter like Tekken or Soul Calibre. DoA 4 is nowhere near these IMHO.
GSI @ Aug 11th 2006 4:43AM
How is CoD2 on the 360 different? The demo was in stores was EXACTLY the same as one of the British levels on the PC version.
Kit @ Aug 11th 2006 4:45AM
thanks for this information.

I call troll. This post is about people with a 360 and their fave games, not nitwits who don't have a 360 spouting half-truth-based insults. Save the lame "Xbox is dumb" stuff for another thread. Sales numbers have met projections just fine over the past several months and compare favorably with previous gen software. Everyone I know who's bought a 360 digs it. That's cool if you don't want to buy one or you're waiting for the PS3 or the Wii, but spare us your lame attitude.
The top 3 aren't available on any other console. I, for one, am glad to have the depth of experience afforded PC titles available on a console. For all intents and purposes, these are exclusives for me b/c I hate gaming on a PC. M/soft have done a swell job with getting quality PC titles onto their systems. The other console makers would do well to get in on the game.
Anyway, my top 10 so far, which is skewed heavily by my gaming preferences, which tend to de-emphasize racing games and military-themed shooters:
1. Oblivion
2. Cloning Clyde
3. Condemned: Criminal Origins
4. Perfect Dark Zero (for the multiplayer)
5. Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved
6. Uno
7. Rockstar Table Tennis
8. Project Gotham Racing 3
9. Call of Duty 2
10. Zuma
Game that might be on this list, had I played them more: Outpost Kaloki X, Burnout Revenge.
Games I haven't played that look good: GR:AW (not really my type of game, but I may pick it up after a price drop), Prey, LOTR: BFME2 (gonna wait for price drops on these), Dead Rising (trying my best to wait for a price drop, but I may cave in and buy it b/c the Demo is awesome.
Games that are supposedly good, and I can see their merits, but I just didn't dig 'em: FN3, DOA4.
Stuff I like the most: The whole Live experience. I occasionally used it on my Xbox, but this always connected thing is great. Nearly all the titles I play regularly have the ability to set up private games, which is fantastic. The downloadable titles have generally been fairly priced (except Bankshot Billiards and maybe SF2 ... for $10 I was expecting a little more of an upgrade over previous versions.)
I've really been impressed with the casual games. I've never been the type to play them on a PC, but these have been just the thing to pick up when I get home from work and want to game for an hour or so before I go to bed.
And Demos. Despite deciding not to buy FN3, I still have the demo on my hard drive. I just don't have the patience for a fight that lasts more than 3 rounds. But this is fun to bust out every now and then when people come over. Also, Dead Rising demo has me stoked to get that game.
The stuff I've been disappointed with: $60 titles that are obviously little more than ports of inferior PS2/Xbox games. (This was more of a problem at launch. I really hope Lego Star Wars comes out OK.) Vague information about upcoming titles, particularly for Xbox Live Arcade now that that summer thing is over.
Oh, and the biggest pet peeve is Bomberman: Act Zero not having local multiplayer. WTF?
Having said all this, I'm really looking forward to the PS3 and Wii coming out so that all these fanboys who constantly crop up in these posts with nothing to contribute to the conversation other than taunts and quarter-truthes will instead be spending their time happily playing their system of choice. I'll probably buy a Wii once it's been on the market for six months or so. And maybe a PS3 once it costs less than $250.
Dirk Dorkelson @ Aug 11th 2006 5:10AM
Quick question for some of you: Do you guys consider every multiplatform release to be a port? Some titles (like Oblivion) seem to be developed simultaneously for PC release and XB360. I don't really consider these ports in the same way I would a game like FIFA06, which was obviously coded for the PS2, then repurposed for the 360.
Similarly, I don't think I consider GR:AW a port for the 360. The game was obviously designed for the 360, then ported (poorly) to the Xbox.
GSI @ Aug 11th 2006 5:13AM
Dude don't bother with LOTR:BfME 2...RTS should ONLY be on PCs/Macs b/c those games were DESIGNED with a mouse and keyboard in mind and not a less accurate analog stick.
People who say "it's the best console RTS since Starcraft 64" have low standards since that wasn't much of an achievement in the first place.
Jordan Hass @ Aug 11th 2006 5:13AM
Dead Rising has been out for 3 days and it's allready number nine on the list? That's Unbelievable, i mean I can't find that game anywhere here, and the guy at GameStop allready had them in stock.
GSI @ Aug 11th 2006 5:15AM
"Similarly, I don't think I consider GR:AW a port for the 360. The game was obviously designed for the 360, then ported (poorly) to the Xbox."
Yes it is a port...and you basically nullified your argument in your statement.
"game was obviously designed for the 360, then PORTED to the Xbox."
Hence the word "port"...it's a game that is either developed by the same team for multiple platforms or made for one platform then ported over to another after full development has completed.
pildor @ Aug 11th 2006 5:18AM
just fix your eyes on how stupid tha controller looks.
Oblivion, GRAW, COD2 = best on Wii, nuff said
Dirk Dorkelson @ Aug 11th 2006 5:21AM
GSI,
What I was trying to say was that I'd consider the Xbox version a port. I'd consider the 360 version the original game. Obviously, it's not an exclusive. But I guess I don't only categorize games as either exclusives or ports.
Dirk Dorkelson @ Aug 11th 2006 5:28AM
But your definition of port is useful. It certainly makes sense. It's just that for some reason, people on this site (or the fanboys anyway) seem to view ports as a negative thing. As I said, I've got no problem playing ports. My computer at home is a Mac. Also, I spend all day on the PC at work. When I get home and game, I want to sit on my couch and play a console. If a console maker is willing to put out well-done ports of popular PC games, I consider that a plus, not a negative. Naturally, I'm going to want some exclusive games, too, but they certainly don't all have to be.
GSI @ Aug 11th 2006 5:52AM
Yea for the most part I don't consider ports a bad thing b/c if it's a really popular 3rd party game...and if I have the all 3 systems, I'll buy the version that has the best graphics since all 3 will play basically identical.
Pal @ Aug 11th 2006 6:12AM
Port or not, it doesn't matter -- it makes money!
Seriously, if you were a publisher, wouldn't you want to make as much money off one game as much as possible? If you were a developer, wouldn't you want your game to be played by as many people as possible?
Who cares if it's a port. Just make a Top 10 360 Exclusive Games list and call it a day.
dolemite @ Aug 11th 2006 6:13AM
That top ten is pretty accurate, but would put NBA 2K6 in there instead of Dead or Alive. the Oblivion is awesome, and GRAW and Fight night are great also. I will get a PS3 also, but my 360 is good too. But if Dead Rising makes the list, then NCAA football needs to be on there too.
V1L3 @ Aug 11th 2006 6:16AM
Considering Oblivion was simultaneously developed for the 360 and PC, is the 360 version a port of the PC version, or is the PC version a port of the 360 version?
A port is a game that was designed for a specific platform, and then later redesigned to play on a different system. Resident Evil 4 = perfect example.
Multiplatform games - games that were designed from inception to be available on different systems (Spiderman 2, Need for Speed Underground, etc) are NOT ports.
As for those individuals who keep saying that games like Oblivion and Battle for Middle Earth should stay on PC, because it has better controls.... Hey, screw you. Your rig might rock the house, but my PC happens to suck, and I'd rather play a game on a system I own than spend over $1,000 upgrading my PC to play the same game just with a better control method.
Should the Star Wars trilogy only be available on HD-DVD just because it's better than DVD? Smart. Real smart.
Jdoki @ Aug 11th 2006 6:19AM
My Xbox360 is pretty much gathering dust at the moment.
After the initial burst of games there's been a BIG drought that I was hoping Live Arcade could fill - unfortunately not.
Galaga? Pacman? SF II? Gimme something new and fresh - not this stale crap that's only worth a singler play to shatter those rose tinted glasses.
Most of the stuff on the list is pretty old, and I'm getting sick of this 'good stuff is just around the corner' mentality that the industry as a whole has at the moment.
Do I give a damn that Spore may not be out for a couple of years, and even longer for the 360 (if it comes) - Don't bother hyping stuff up until it's near ready for delivery.
So far my Xbox360 has over-promised and under-delivered. Where are the AAA exclusives?
Roll on September when I can finally get hold of Dead Rising (in the UK). If Gears of War doesn't live up to the hype, the 360 is going to take a big knock in consumer confidence leading up to Christmas.
Mupwangle @ Aug 11th 2006 6:20AM
>>Hence the word "port"...it's a game that is either developed by the same team for multiple platforms or made for one platform then ported over to another after full development has completed.
No. There is not an either there. A port is not a game that is developed for multiple platforms simulateously. A port is a only game that is developed for one platform and then subsequently reworked for another.
GR:AW on the 360 is not a port as it was written for the 360 then ported to the PC. The Xbox version is not a port either as it is a completely different game which shares a lot of elements of the original.
Oblivion and COD2 are not ports as they are multi-platform titles from the start.
Ports are bad things as the titles were not written with that platform in mind so they are not likely to be as well optimised. Usually this means they suck.
Multiplatform games are usually OK as the same teams create the artwork, level designs and the like then they are coded for seperately and deliberately for different specific hardware. This may, however, lead to compromise which can be bad.
GSI @ Aug 11th 2006 6:26AM
D'oh...ur right...I did get that wrong. Sorry about that...I've had a long day and I'm a tad tired.
I've never played the 360 version of CoD2 (but I am close to beating the PC version)...however I'm still waiting for someone to tell me why CoD2 on the 360 isn't a port or how it's a different game. The 360 demo played EXACTLY like the PC version and was a level taken right out of the PC version.
Brat @ Aug 11th 2006 7:00AM
I want JRPGs!!!
Deezul @ Aug 11th 2006 7:09AM
The "level" in the CoD2 demo was also available in the 360 game. That's what demos are usually - a level from the game! As everyone said, just because you played PC first doesn't mean IT's not the port. Would you say Halo is a port, because it was eventually released on the PC? If the games are released at the same time, or very close, it's not a port - it's multiplatform.
John @ Aug 11th 2006 7:10AM
@15
Are you saying the Wii controller is stupid or the 360?
In all honesty, the 360 controller is the best I've ever used in my life, if you think its stupid you have obviously never played with one.
Also, Oblivion would be terrible on the wii, you fool; have you no idea how immersive the game is in its ultra-realistic high definition graphics and audio, the Wii could only dream of pulling that off.
No way in hell would Oblivion be better on the Wii than 360.
Donutta @ Aug 11th 2006 7:22AM
The original Xbox, for me at least, was about personal taste. Yes, I appreciated the Halo games like everyone else, and I really dug Fable. And as a Star Wars fan, I lapped up the KOTOR games. But the Xbox managed to support itself not on the strength of its online service or the plethora of FPS games available for it; it supported itself by having games like Panzer Dragoon Orta, Jet Set Radio Future, and Outrun 2. Maybe it's just because I'm a Sega whore?
Anyway, I bought the 360 based on the potential of it bringing me a similar experience, even if it's just sequels to my favourite games. However, it started to prove itself by delivering a unique experience. Xbox Live is a lot better in its integration; it really feels like you're involved with the console now. XBLA also provides those nostalgia trips for when I'm in a gaming-was-better-15-years-ago mood. The current crop of games isn't so hot shit -- I sold Oblivion because it lacked the variety that Morrowind's landscape had -- but they're certainly killing the time until that killer app comes out. And while I guess I'm the only one, I'm perfectly happy with Perfect Dark Zero for now -- excuse the pun.
It's just too bad my piece of shit console broke and is currently at the Microsoft hospital. I was certainly the last of the bunch, but I can no longer say that I know someone personally who has a 360 that hasn't needed repair or replacement. MS really dropped the ball on that one, worse than Sony ever did. Oh well, at least New Zealand gets a 12-month warranty. :)
hjungle @ Aug 11th 2006 7:24AM
I believe the list is ranked according to highest ratings and not by sales.
As with any console, be it the Wii, PS3, 360, or even the SNES what I really like to see are exclusives; titles that have been specifically made for one system. I don't like having ports or worse ports that are made for the lowest common denominator.
Of course, the system is still in its first year...
IslandLife @ Aug 11th 2006 7:25AM
@ 13 (Jordan Hass)
This is not a sales chart, it's based on review averages. So why would it matter how long a game's been out?

#22 : "GR:AW on the 360 is not a port as it was written for the 360 then ported to the PC. The Xbox version is not a port either as it is a completely different game which shares a lot of elements of the original."
Actually no, the PC version was developped seperately by GRIN and is very different from the 360 version (more tactical). It's still nowhere near the greatness of SWAT 4 though.
On topic, as a PC gamer I still find the 360 line-up to be of little interest as of now. Mass Effect might change my mind, but there's a real need for more AAA exclusive games.
vidGuy @ Aug 11th 2006 8:12AM
There's been a few games worth picking up, but not any worth buying the console for, so far anyway.
My top 3:
3. Prey
2. Dead Rising (I haven't had much time with it so it can't get #1)
1. Condemned: Criminal Origins (The only early game I felt inclined to play all the way through)
MookieFL @ Aug 11th 2006 8:20AM
I've been really happy with my 360 and I haven't even delved into Oblivion or GRAW yet...there's something really, really appealing about the 720p graphics and the ability to play games with near-PC level graphics in a comfy chair in my living room. I've been playing Prey and although it's a pretty generic shooter, and the controller is no mouse and keyboard, I'm really enjoying the home theater experience. If I were playing the PC version I'd be a lot more disappointed in the game itself, so maybe the novelty will wear off.
What bothers me is that I'm already starting to get the old-consoles-hurt-my-eyes problem. I recently picked up Shadow of the Colossus and I'm about halfway through but I find my eyes are watering a lot more and are more tired when I'm done with a session--I think the relative blurriness of the picture coupled with the filtered look the game are doing it. Maybe it's because HDTV's do such a lousy job displaying non-HD signals.
I'm curious about the best titles of the first 9 or 10 months of the PS2. I remember loving SSX and thinking Onimusha was fun but short, but I also remember playing a lot of Mario Kart 64 for awhile...
Woody @ Aug 11th 2006 8:25AM
You know, I'm (sorta/used to be) an xbox360 hater. I do however think that the 360's lineup is getting very tempting. The whole game arcade and releases every week is pretty cool too. With the lineup coming this fall/winter, if I can't get a hold of a Wii this fall, a 360 could easily make its debut.
Jeff @ Aug 11th 2006 8:39AM
No Chrome Hounds, talk about missing a gem. Best online game in a long time.
Austin @ Aug 11th 2006 8:42AM
By year end this list will be very different.
1. gears of war
2. splinter cell double agent
3. Saints Row (if you havent tried the demo you should)
MookieFL @ Aug 11th 2006 8:44AM
In fact, I was SO curious about it that I checked GameRankings for the highest-rated games of the PS2's first 10 months, and here they are:
1. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec 94.0%
2. SSX 91.4%
3. NCAA Football 2002 90.2%
4. Madden NFL 2001 89.6%
5. Twisted Metal: Black 88.2%
6. Red Faction 87.5%
7. DOA2: Hardcore 86.7%
8. NBA Street 86.5%
9. Tekken Tag Tournament 85.5%
10. Star Wars Starfighter 85.2%
Three non-sequel or non-franchise games on there, and one of them is RED FACTION. To be fair, the remaining 5 months of 2001 brought GTA III, MGS2, Devil May Cry, Final Fantasy X, Jak & Daxter, ICO, and Tony Hawk 3. Will the 360 have a holiday like that? I hope so, but it seems a bit unlikely...
Maybe what this means is that with a new system it just takes software developers a little while to figure out how to best utilize new consoles. Also, back then the PS2 was really the only game in town and had been in out in Japan 7 months earlier, so it had a bit of a headstart.
Bob422 @ Aug 11th 2006 8:48AM
The idea that the Top 3 titles on the list are ports is a bit ridiculous. None of the 3 appear on another console, as both Call of Duty 2 and Ghost Recon AW are completely different from the current genereation versions, as any informed person would know (the 360 version of Ghost Recon scored 90%, 50% on the PS2 because it's a completely dumped down version).
The fact that the games appear on both the 360 and the PC is not really a fault. Running in 720p on an HDTV, the games look just as good as they would on a high-end PC (in 1280*1024, no less).
So, you can buy a $400 console or a $1500+ PC. Gee, what do ya think 80% of the people are going to go for? Especially with PC gaming dying a slow aganizing death.
JimmyHACK @ Aug 11th 2006 8:49AM

"For those who have yet to make the plunge, what's it going to take for the world's largest software company to pocket your skrilla?"
I'm an Xbox owner who's been thinking about taking the plunge for some time now. What I'm really waiting for is the appearance of the "Must Have" game for the system. I finally bought the original Xbox when my craving for Halo 2 became unbearable. In the same way, I'm looking for Halo 3 to finally convince me to take the plunge. I also am in love with KOTOR, Fable and Forza Motorsport, so those exclusive sequels would also probably push me over the edge. Gears of War looks good too.
I'm also hoping for the first year games to come down a bit in price, if I'm lucky. I'd love to have Fight Night Round 3, but I'm willing to wait for it to drop to "Greatest Hit" status. Same for GR:AW.
Truthfully, I'm also planning on getting the Nintendo Wii, because I think they're going to do some really innovative stuff with that platform. I'd like to see the XBox 360 embrace more innovative games. For example, push Red Octane to create an Xbox version of Guitar Hero. Games like Guitar Hero would shine on the platform, especially with the ability to download new song packs via Live (or, God help us, to use a web cam to broadcast your air guitar skillz).
I'm almost certain to get a 360 at some point. All I'm waiting for are the games to make it worth buying (versus just treading water with my original Xbox and PS2). I'm also hoping for a price cut at some point.
Ben Hobbs @ Aug 11th 2006 8:58AM
BFME 2 IS a great RTS console game, probably the best I've ever played, I've owned both the PC and 360 version and prefer the console version. This is coming from a Generals: Zero Hour veteran who used to think it couldn't be done on a console.
The games I have been playin most of during my ownership of the 360 are (in order);
CoD2
LOTR BFME 2
Oblivion
Hitman
Burnout 3
GRAW
Uno
Perfect Dark Zero
Fight Night
DOA4
Kameo
Tony Hawk
PGR
I haven't been dissapointed in a single game yet, although Tony Hawks wasn't that great I still played it. I pick up around two games per month and perhaps one Live Arcade game, I haven't even had a chance to play PGR much (perhaps an hour or so) because some of the other games are just so good.
I play mainly multiplayer so Live is a godsend, especially as I live in Thailand yet most of my old buddies are back in the UK, I get to play against them head to head just as if they were sitting right next to me, plus I can keep in contact and save money on phone bills.
Xbox Live is the best thing to happen to consoles since they hit 16 bits.

God some of you people need to shut up about the game drought. Its the dumbest comment i have heard because of the fact that it is summer morons. Summer is slow for every system. Imagine if you had a ps2 or xbox 1 or gamecube right now since nothing good comes out for them either. The industry always releases all the games from september to december so deal with it and shut the hell up i get tired of people saying nothing is coming out. Its not the 360s fault its the industry that only wants to release games at christmas!!

I thought that Condemned was a great single player experience, and any 360 owner who feels like bashing some madmen-skull owes it to themselves to check it out. You could almost call this the first 'sleeper' of the 360, since it released to good but not great reviews, but everyone who plays through it loves it.
I've had great experiences with the XBLA titles. Geo Wars, Zuma, and Wik: Fable of Souls especially.
And the dashbaord itself is a pleasure to use.
PeteL @ Aug 11th 2006 9:13AM
I don't get all the bitching about ports and exclusives? If you like playing great games on a console get a 360. It's that simple.
Favorites for me so far: NBA 2K6, COD2 multiplayer, Oblivion.
Played a lot of GR:AW on live before the rip off pack, so then I turned to the singleplayer campaign and I'm glad I did. Love blasting away in the helo! Had a great time last night on live racing with several buddies in MotoGP. Got tired of the game music, hit a button and I'm racing along to my favorite tunes. Sweet.
Just picked up Kameo and it looks like a nice change of pace.
There is already a great library of games on the 360, more than I have time for. And a ton of games coming this fall.
Looking forward to trying Madden in HD (even tho I'm a 2K fan I want to play some NFL on my 360). Must buys for me: NBA 2K7, NHL 2K7, WWE v. Raw, RB6-Vegas, SCCT-Double Agent, Gears of War, COD3. Those are just the ones I can think up off the top of my head.

Try again. The PC and 360 version's of all 3 were worked on simultaneously. The first 2 were released for PC after the 360 release. Good try though!
dvdguy @ Aug 11th 2006 9:22AM
The 360 has a top notch RPG (Oblivion), a good fighting game (Fight Night), several solid FPS (GRAW, CoD2, B2MC), great driving games (Need for Speed, Burnout, PGR3), a well received strategy game (LOTR2), and two really fun pseudo-survivial horror titles (Condemned and Dead Rising).
Arcade has Geometry Wars, Uno, and a handful of arcade classics.
Sports titles should really show off this year, after lousy launch editions. Top Spin 2 and NCAA Football 07 are good first tries.
I think the system is doing just fine. I'm having fun with it, and that's why I bought it.
Jdoki @ Aug 11th 2006 9:22AM

The drought goes way beyond the (ridiculous, in my opinion) summer slump...
Last decent game I bought was GRAW back in March.
The summer drought is a short term excuse for a long term issue. I want the 360 to do well, I want to play games on the console I've invested money in...
The 360 is not delivering exlusive AAA titles and most of the hype is surrounding ONE title - Gears of War. Other than that what do we have? Forza 2 - this year? Maybe. Mass Effect - this year? Maybe. Viva Pinata... errr!
hoos30 @ Aug 11th 2006 9:24AM
I really like my 360. Demos and Live are great. Games have been solid, if not spectacular. I can't figure out why developers can't seem to get the online matchmaking in any current game to work nearly as well as Halo 2 did two years ago. The party system is genious but no one can seem to follow up. Am I missing something?

I don't have a 360 yet, but only because I can't afford it at the moment. At first I wasn't interested in it at all, but what really sold it to me was this year's E3.
I believe its current game library is by no means phenomenal, but it's solid. The truly great things are coming, however. Bioshock, Mass Effect, Gears of War, Fable 2, Viva Pinata, Blue Dragon, Lost Planet, Forza Motosport 2, Too Human, Alan Wake, even Assassin's Creed (come on, we all know it's coming eventually) and a bunch of lower profile and XBLA games - those are the ones that really got my juices flowing.
By early 2007 Xbox 360 should have at least several must-play titles. The trickle has started with Dead Rising and will hopefully only grow stronger as the holidays approach. Wii's lineup also seems rather solid and thanks to its low price and a unique controller I might even get it first. It's not my first choice, but it might very well become my first purchase.
On the other hand, the only PS3 exclusives that excite me at the moment are MGS4 and Virtua Fighter 5, with a possible inclusion of Heavenly Sword and Lair (once we finally find out how in the world that game plays). I know that might change in the following months (years?), but right now incoming 360 (and Wii) games just seem better suited to my tastes.
So the only thing Microsoft and their partners need to do to sell me a 360 is to deliver on their promises and then keep the steady rhythm of quality releases.
