Happy Zelda music day
Today is Friday, and you know what that means. That's right, it's time for a bunch of videos of people playing Zelda music! This ukulele performance (found via Wonderland) is pretty impressive, but continue reading for an equally impressive piano medley (from Video Game Pianist Martin Leung) and a little ditty played on a real ocarina!

Damn, that was pretty good, it looks hard to play on ukulele.
darryl @ Aug 11th 2006 1:20PM
Zelda blows chunks...
vidGuy @ Aug 11th 2006 1:25PM
Yes, darryl, the game that many, including GameFAQs reader base, consider to be the greatest franchise of all time "blows chunks".
Why hasn't this troll been banned yet?
canebi @ Aug 11th 2006 1:27PM
That makes me happy.
Baboon @ Aug 11th 2006 1:35PM
Just ignore it. If you don't believe in trolls, they disappear.
On topic, I love the Zelda music. Also, anyone who has not seen the Nintendo concert in Japan featuring the Big Band of Rouges needs to. I seriously hope the next Zelda and Mario games feature some performances from the two bands in that concert (particularly the small string group).
reguy @ Aug 11th 2006 1:38PM
i liked the piano one, maybe i should learn to play the guitar

Bob422 @ Aug 11th 2006 1:59PM
Question:
At 4:00 (or 4:08 exactly), which game/what song is that? I heard it in the Zelda Hourglass trailer.
reguy @ Aug 11th 2006 2:01PM
@ darryl
Troll!! Troll!! You dirty troll!!
That will be all
airpolgas @ Aug 11th 2006 2:22PM

Babylonian @ Aug 11th 2006 2:27PM
I have that same Ocarina. I bought it from an ad in Nintendo Power many years ago after saving up my money for it. The same ads still are running in the magazine today.
I never thought to make a youtube video out of it, though.
SuicideNinja @ Aug 11th 2006 2:37PM
This is where a 100 guitarists say, "I could do that."
*slaps those 100 guitarists*
TravistyOJ @ Aug 11th 2006 2:39PM
I mean the video is cool, but are there any good mp3's of this? Seems like what you see doesnt matter and video codecs dont leave much room for good sound.
Kudos to the artists
JPRacer @ Aug 11th 2006 3:09PM
I don't know if there's a big difference in how you play between an ukulele and a guitar but I just (2 months ago) bought an electric guitar after many hours of Guitar Hero playing and man, guitar playing is 10 times more difficult than piano/keyboard playing. This guy is great, I wish I could do that.
And Zelda rocks!
jakob @ Aug 11th 2006 3:11PM
the youkalayleeeh one was great. that guy is good but his myspace is fkkn WEERD!
the piano one was beautiful. but if its dedicated to drunken delight, then WTF IS IT DOING HERE?! but im not complaining
the ocarina one was a little too metal for me. hahahaha
PodMonkeys @ Aug 11th 2006 3:14PM
Excelent playing. Good way to end a work day.
MO @ Aug 11th 2006 3:15PM
Damn, they were all good, and I'm not ashamed to say that some of the songs of that piano video brought me to tears with nostalgia. Damn, I hope the new Zelda games have those songs. I also liked the last one with the ocarina. As far as I know, there are no real instruments like that, so kudos to that guy with the time to make a working one. I loved how he played the song, bobbing his head back and forth like Link did whenever he played in Ocarina of Time (another tears-of-nostalgia moment).
ejflex @ Aug 11th 2006 3:16PM
Darryl, you're about as cool as a wet fart. How about that?
JRodLiebs @ Aug 11th 2006 3:39PM
pretty impressive?!?! PRETTY IMPRESSIVE?!?! pshhh...that was incredible! the amount of skill it takes to play a ukulele like that is off the charts, its so damn small...that was some of the best if not THE BEST video game music i have ever heard. nuff said
Lutraphobic @ Aug 11th 2006 4:05PM
MO, you can actually buy that Ocarina online. I've seen the site.
Alex @ Aug 11th 2006 4:07PM
All three sound great, of course the piano being the most dramatic and imposing. This also goes to show how complex the (original) Zelda game was, from music to graphics to storyline. Truly a work of art :)

That is the website, for anyone interested in picking up their own Ocarina.
The piano and ukulele performances were pretty amazing.

I gotta say, That piano medley... brings a tear to my eye. Piano is my favorite instrument, and video game music is some of my favorite music, not remixes though (cept maybe about 3/5ths of trigger happy tetris) Early video game music was classical done by a computer and set on a loop...
Tathar @ Aug 19th 2006 12:34AM
I always noticed that the "video game pianist" had a tendency to have several wrong notes in each song.
machewchew @ Nov 3rd 2006 5:12PM
Man that ukulele playin' was the bitchinest thing I've seen in a long time. Mad, mad props.
