Joystiq invades "a very special" CAGcast
Last night I was invited by CheapyD, founder and Cheap Executive Officer of Cheap Ass Gamer, to join him and co-host Wombat on "a very special" episode of the site's podcast. No, we didn't talk about teen pregnancy and drug abuse; we talked about boobs in video games, the demise of E3, why epobirs can't get any more stars, and the apparently inscrutable Dead Rising save system. What made the show so special? It was the 40th episode and one year anniversary of the CAGcast. Congrats guys! Listen - CAGcast #40: Happy CAGiversary!

Uh-oh.

Hey you know what I would subscribe to?
A joystiq podcast! With everyone on the team participating, you can have weekly shows, but each week a different set of staff participate, to keep things "fresh"
+ Thatd be awsome. Good reasoning huh? Im not kidding >.> Podcast time.

John,
We know. We're working on it! ;)
Nushio @ Aug 11th 2006 7:03PM
You can throw spare stars at us hungry dogs who cant earn one even if our life depended on it.
CAGcast? Engadget used to have a podcast, so why cant Joystiq?
I second John on the notion, go Joystiqcast!
Grim @ Aug 11th 2006 7:07PM
A joystiq podcast would be great. I need something to listen to besides diggnation.

Great interview by the way Chris. I like your insight on E3, makes a lot of sense. Oh and good use of the word obviated, you deserve a star for that one.
CheapyD @ Aug 11th 2006 10:49PM
Next time we have Chris on the CAGcast, I'm gonna have a dictionary on the ready.

I'm wondering, did CheapyD talk about how he made the decision to allow his members at his site to post all deals, fraudulent or not? How he now allows his members to come up with ways to scam retailers and post them? How he has made a conscious decision to push all the members who disagree with stealing, lying and fraud into the back corner of the forum where they can be easily ignored? Just curious guys.
Kuros @ Aug 12th 2006 2:44AM
Very immature fwacce, you don't need to bring one site's issues on another.
bv @ Aug 12th 2006 4:00AM
ya, what kuros said. why do you gotta make cheapy d to be some mel gibson wannabe. He's a cool guy and kinda sounds like my 11th grade environmental science teacher, and maybe Norm McDonald too. So LAY OFFF!

I don't quite agree with this. There are a lot of .. questionable ethical things being suggested on the forums, but things that are outright illegal (fake coupons etc) get deleted right away. Wombat and Cheapy D addressed this very issue on a recent podcast. I think more could probably be done to get rid of some of the less morally acceptable suggestions in the forums, but I still love the site

Immature? If a site is going to tout how great someone and his site is, they should at least be prepared to hear the other side. I know there are a lot of CAG fanboys, but many people don't know the site. For those of us who do have some level of ethics, I definitely feel they should know what's going on over there before blindly following a link on this site. I don't mean this as an insult, but I think it's more immature to promote a site without telling people about everything that goes on there.
Petrie @ Aug 12th 2006 5:32PM
Cheapy provides a service to those of us who enjoy using it. I applaud Cheapy for not going above and beyond the call of duty with regard to censorship. To all of you criticizing him for not throwing his own morals at you, I ask what you think of Jack Thompson's plight? If you feel he is wrong to impose him morals on our games, then you should also agree that Cheapy would be wrong to impose his morals on his forums. He isn't forcing his morals upon you, he only intervenes when it is a question of legality, which is the right policy to follow.
On another note, I thought you did a great job on the CAGCAST, which happens to be the only gaming podcast I bother with at the moment. I do agree Joystiq should consider creating it's own podcast, as there is a plethora of topics I'd enjoy hearing some of you really delve into, especially you Mr. Grant.

I don't usually respond to posts on sites like this but CAGcast is great, informative, and down right entertaining. I've used the site pretty much exclusively for deals, trades, and a great community.
The mods at CAG boards are great they kill spam, repeated deal posts, and fradulant deals and of course illegal means. If you have heard the resent CAGcast that mentions the very things you are "against what cag does" CheapyD never posts deals/coupons that are fradulant on the front page of the site. So CheapyD is NOT promoting unethical/illegal ways to get games cheap. He provides a great forum with great people and deals that are legit. (I love getting the ads/games that are cheap weeks before everyone else knows about.. the recent CC sale I got in on because of CAG)
so please, next time you use a very small percentage of a community that does "illegal/unethical" things and say the ENTIRE community does it think again. I'm sure everyone has skeletons in the closet. and its not my fault that EB/Gamestop gives great credit on cheap/easy to come by games sometimes.
