Putting the desperate back into Desperate Housewives
Last week I was able to get a sneak peek and play the latest game to capitalize on a successful franchise -- Desperate Housewives. Planned for release this fall on the PC, the game is really nothing more than a stripped down Sims with a TV show name and premise slapped on it.Here were my highlights as I walked down Wisteria Lane:
- Took a shower with my pixelated naked character
- Tried to go to the bathroom -- no luck
- Changed into my Desperate Housewives jumpsuit
- Went outside, planted a flower
- Went to the neighbors house, had sex with male neighbor
- Went outside, found another man, had sex with him
- Tried to have sex with female neighbor, but denied

I'm a 22 year old male and am eagerly awaiting this game. Should i be ashamed?

So...it's practically a sex game. I always thought this was a style marketed towards males, but I guess the fact that you can plant flowers (and perhaps the lack of lesbians) suddenly makes it a title for women.
The world makes no sense.

"The world makes no sense."
Indeed, if the object was for guys to have sex with women and not a game popular with women(like the Sims), it would get an M or an AO rating. America is sexist against men.

Camel toe... mmmmmmm she be hot indeedy

Judd, wait till you get a job with women, and find that you get paid more than your female colleagues who work harder than you, and when you walk with one of them down the street, YOU aren't the one getting catcalled by swarthy construction workers. Idiot.

That's odd, I have a job with women, and that's not what I've noticed.
I'm working at a local McDonald's to help pay for my education. At this particular store, I can think of 9 managers. 7 of them, including the store manager, are women. And while I don't know exactly how much they are paid, I highly doubt the two male managers make any more money than the female managers.
The fact is, it's easier for women to get into college, get scholarships/financial aid, get jobs requiring their college education, and get promoted to management. If schools/government/companies don't do this, they are accused of discriminating against women. The real irony is that giving special treatment *IS* sexist, since it's saying that women need help in order to go to college and get a good job.
Back on topic:
If this game was made the other way around, you could bet good money that people would throw a fit about it. Judd is right.
Fortunately, I don't think it'd be a must-have title either way. Of course, I don't watch the show, so I guess I'm not who they're going after.

hmmm what i have noticed... non xxx media with hot women but rare talk or showing of actual "sex"(mmorpgs/action movies/etc) attract more males... non xxx media with lots of talk about or showing of actual "sex", but with not extremly hot women(sex in the city/desperate housewives/any soap opera)... attract women. odd world eh?

Everything in this article is public knowlege from E3 to anyone who went to it. When I asked about them about the game, they said it had a storyline that was being written by a writer from the show. Why didn't you tell us about that? Did you even play the game?

Maybe they should have licensed The Sims engine for this, or developed an officially licensed version of The Sims featuring the Desperate Housewives characters. It seems like it would have been easier, make for a better game, and beneficial to both ABC/Disney and EA.
