XBLA party in a box of one

With Microsoft's Xbox Live Arcade "Party in a Box" now in full swing, I decided to take it upon myself to go ahead and throw my own party on Bill Gates' dime -- except by myself, cold and alone. Seeing as how I have no friends, I had to go the solo route.
While eating my Papa John's pizza and playing some retro XBLA titles, I was able to rock out to some 80s tunes thanks to an included compilation CD. So, now my little Joystiqers, witness the mayhem of a party in a box of one.

Grab the controller and dig in, you little blogger you!

Nothing like a little "Come on Eileen" to go with a good Pac-Man session.

Time for some Ryu kick assery.

Yeah, so, I wanted to play some multiplayer and kick some noobie-town butt, but I got the dreaded "timeout" message. WTF?!?!?!?!?

Of course a Sony fanboy had to ruin all my Microsoft fun. Check out that look of utter disgust at my indulgence.

Nintendo had to crash the party as well.

A large pepperoni, green peppers, and onions pizza is just about dunzo. Woohoo party in a box of one!

Is that your living room, or an Ikea showroom?
Robert Summa @ Aug 12th 2006 10:04PM
A little bit of both actually.
xMDKx x36Ox @ Aug 12th 2006 10:05PM
where is my party in a box?
lolersticks @ Aug 12th 2006 10:06PM
I'm all for Ikea furniture: as long as you can figure out how to put the damned things together.
Russ Stewart @ Aug 12th 2006 10:07PM
Um, I'm not nit-picking or anything, but, um, if you're so alone, who's holding the camera? Sure there weren't any bad mushrooms on that pizza?
Oh, and a little tip when having Papa John's. Tell 'em to go easy on the sauce. Makes the toppings stay on better when you fold it at the crust, thereby making it easier to eat while playing.
Patrick @ Aug 12th 2006 10:08PM
I bought a chair from Ikea. It broke in every way conceivable.
AK @ Aug 12th 2006 10:09PM
What faceplate is that on your 360?
Ethan @ Aug 12th 2006 10:09PM
yeah, but papa John's pizza sauce is awesome. I still like local italian pizza shops better though.
BklynKid @ Aug 12th 2006 10:17PM
If you were really by yourself, then who took the pictures?
bounchfx @ Aug 12th 2006 10:23PM
I emailed them, and I never got one nor have they responded.
MS you blow
Dracula Jones @ Aug 12th 2006 10:30PM
Bastards! I emailed them like the first day it was announced and haven't heard anything. That looks like a good time. And there's nothing wrong with Ikea! My entire apartment looks pretty much like that, except with less free pizza.
ljbad4life @ Aug 12th 2006 10:53PM
if this is a party of one... who the hell is taking the pics of the guy by himself?!? the fanboy(cats)
Simon @ Sep 15th 2006 6:18PM
#7 - I'm pretty sure it's a 'Gear of War' faceplate.
Do I win, Mr Summa?
Audie @ Aug 12th 2006 10:56PM
yes, I was there on xbox's site before the link to apply for the box was live and got there within minutes of it becoming live and got nadda. Sure promise parties in a box then say oh we randomly drew from entries. It said nothing about entering anything just fill in the pertinent info to get a party in a box. Crappy.
Robert Summa @ Aug 12th 2006 10:59PM
Yes, that's a Gears of War faceplate. Got it at E3 when Microsoft let us play GoW multiplayer. I think I slapped that puppy on as soon as I got home.
The fanboys took the pics. I love my fanboys.
xMDKx x36Ox @ Aug 12th 2006 11:19PM
how do you know if your getting a party pack?
Postal Mail?
Email?
how was the box delivered?
james mcduffy @ Aug 12th 2006 11:31PM
Hey robert i was thinking about getting that stand for my tv. How tall are the shelves?
Ethan @ Aug 12th 2006 11:44PM

@16:
This is relatively easy to discern. Take a look at what he's got on his shelves. About the size of an xbox game box standing upright.
Robert Summa @ Aug 13th 2006 12:04AM
#18 is right. They are about the size of a Xbox game but laid out on its side horizontally.
I think they are adjustable though to what kind of space you actually want.
hey alex @ Aug 13th 2006 12:04AM
Has anyone else received their party in a box? I'm pretty sure I requested mine within 24 hours of it being offered.
Dracula Jones @ Aug 13th 2006 12:12AM
To everyone (including me) who sent an email to the party-in-a-box thing and heard nothing, this is what xbox.com says:
"Update: Thanks to all the partiers who sent in Party-In-A-Box requests! The winners have been randomly selected. Look for photos and party recaps from gamers across the country."
It was initially advertised as quantities are limited, first come first served thing, wasn't it? Ah well, whatever, congrats to the winners. Send us losers a slice, will ya?
Rare Hare @ Aug 13th 2006 2:12AM
Do you really not have any friends? Is that why you've been posting so much recently?
What happened to your friends? Did they all die, or are you just a loser?
Did you put the Joystiq on specifically for this post, or do you just always wear it? Do you wash it? Does it stink? Is that why you don't have any friends?
Why are you wearing camouflage shorts? Is it because you think that I can't see your legs when you're wearing them? I can.
Rare Hare @ Aug 13th 2006 2:18AM
Why don't you wear a watch? Why are your legs so hairy?
Why are you wearing your shoes to play games? Isn't it uncomfortable?
What's up with the guitar leaned against the wall? Do you actually play, or is it just there to make you look cool? Do you think maybe Red Octane is working on "Acoustic Guitar Hero"? That would be kind of cool.
Why do you sit at an angle like that to your TV? Are you scared to look it directly in the face when you play? Doesn't it kind of suck to not be right in front of it? It's like you wearing you shoes and not washing your shirt. Do you just like being uncomfortable?
Do you get pizza sauce on your 360 controller? Can you really play with one hand like that? That's mad skillz, yo. What are your cats' names? I would name them Billjoe and Ducky Luckman.
dark_inchworm @ Aug 13th 2006 3:36AM
This is saddening, as I too thought it was first come first serve, and I jumped on it before it was publicized everywhere.
Boo :(
TravistyOJ @ Aug 13th 2006 4:03AM
I guess I can stop wondering if I would get this. Has anyone here besides this buy gotten it? I bet they just gave em to press. :(
Mortus-Ex @ Aug 13th 2006 5:59AM
I Am So Gonna Get One Of Those Ikea Tables Once I Finish Clearing My Room!
(At The Moment, It Looks Like Someone Played Call Of Duty 2 In My Room For Real!) Tell Me Robert Summa, Ever Have Any Probs With Those Cats Sleepin In The Shelves?
Leo @ Aug 13th 2006 9:44AM
2 words: Your Cute!
Jim @ Aug 13th 2006 9:52AM
what party?
I only see a guy eating some junk food.
Dane @ Aug 13th 2006 11:06AM
You're hot! Can I come round and play :)
Anthony @ Aug 13th 2006 11:09AM
Calm down nerds, you don't have to be jelous because he is not a fat ass who sits inside all day.
It's good to see a gamer who can walk up a set of stairs.
(Im being sarcastic in a way)
JR @ Aug 13th 2006 11:18AM
Im just a regular old broke college student with a gamertag and a dream and I got my party pack. Came with codes for free pizza, MS points (which i quickly spent on Hyper Fighting), and free napster downloads. Didn't know it was randonly selected winner thing though. Guess I got lucky. Maybe I'll get lucky enough for Otis not to call be during boss fights.......nope, not that lucky.
nick @ Aug 13th 2006 11:28AM
They turned party in a box into a contest? I thought it was first come first served too. Had I known ahead of time it would be random, I would have never requested one. Microsoft, I'm totally disappointed in you on this one.
Emma @ Aug 13th 2006 1:40PM
People act like they've never heard of self timer's on cameras before. It's not that hard to take photos of yourself!
niftythought @ Aug 13th 2006 2:37PM
i wish i was the controller in your hands and you could press my buttons.
Codicier @ Aug 13th 2006 2:53PM
why do you guys keep coming on to him?
It's weird.
cap-n-crunch @ Aug 13th 2006 2:55PM
Hay that looks like my tv and remote. is it a magnavox?
Robert Summa @ Aug 13th 2006 3:30PM
Yes, it is a Magnavox. It's a 37" flat panel HD LCD.
gamer9190 @ Aug 13th 2006 5:03PM
Gotta love that Ikea nesting instinct... Props if you get the reference.
Robert Summa @ Aug 13th 2006 5:20PM
F*** off with your sofa units and strine green stripe patterns, I say never be complete, I say stop being perfect, I say let ... lets evolve, let the chips fall where they may.
Eli @ Aug 13th 2006 5:57PM
zOMG, I went to IKEA today! I bought and 'Expressivo' desk lamp, in glossy white, to go with my MacBook. I saw your furniture there! zOMGWTFBBQ!
Rare Hare @ Aug 13th 2006 6:28PM
Robert, why is it that you answered cap-n-crunch's question immediately but made no attempt at mine? Is that the way it is? I see.
jc @ Aug 13th 2006 10:49PM
no wonder the new season of Lost doesn't start yet...Jack is just at home playing 360 while stuffing his face.
The reseamblance, top pic, is almost spot on...now if we could just get him out of the way and get pics of Kate (Evangeline Lily) :)
JBranch @ Aug 14th 2006 6:14AM
YOU ARE HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can be your friend.... >_>
espionage @ Aug 14th 2006 1:29PM
I have that same Ikea TV stand and it's really nice! There's enough sections for each console that you want to seperate, and you can even fit a mid-tower PC in the middle column if you want that to be your media center.
Neil @ Aug 14th 2006 7:18PM
That cat has long hairs growing from its ears. The second cat, not the first cat. Yes, don't scroll up it is the Nintendo fanboy.
Yan @ Aug 16th 2006 8:19AM
Hi, if you're feeling lonely just give me a shout and I'll campaign you (for some games).
You’re really hot but probably not gay.
