New PS3 Assassin's Creed images surface

Every time we see pictures of this game, we can't help but be in awe. And, with this latest batch of screenshots to come about, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed for the PlayStation 3 is looking sweeter and sweeter.
Let's just hope the final gameplay turns out to be as solid as these pictures appear when the game finally ships next year. Check after the break for more of these beauties.

woah... that game looks sweet... i wouldnt mind getting my hands on it... lets say 1-3 years from now when the ps3 has a bit of a price drop.
hohoho @ Aug 13th 2006 8:06PM
gentlemen, start your fanboyism.
360: bah, cg fakes running on! it'll look better on 360 6 months later.
ps3: see?! it's 4D!
wii: kookookahkah?
Peter @ Aug 13th 2006 8:06PM
Once you look at the full size screens the textures look fairly bland espically compared to GOW. Is it just me? On the other hand I'll have to see it in motion and the game does seem to make good use of the PS3's pixel shaders and HDR. The faces look good , reminds me of COD 3.
Alcoholic Zombie @ Aug 13th 2006 8:06PM
No offense but I would file these screenshots under the "bullshot" catagories. Usually screenshots coming from games made for unreleased consoles are usually enhanced for our viewing pleasure. Thanks, but no thanks. I need brains now.
Alcoholic Zombie @ Aug 13th 2006 8:08PM
Argh, though I had the first post. Gotta stop feasting on brains and type faster.
soundrave @ Aug 13th 2006 8:24PM
The rumor was that this game was "supposedly" running on a 360 development hardware during this year E3... Makes you wonder, when is the 360 version is coming out...
Scott @ Aug 13th 2006 8:25PM
@ Alcoholic Zombie
Is there something wrong with you?. I am not a massive Sony fan, but on reading what the ps3 hardware can do, these pics DEFINATLY look like screenshots. Obviously it is running on an lcd screen with the full 1080p (or whatever it is argh). Have you seen Crysis? Crysis looks a LOT better than these screens and i have seen it in motion. If a pc game coming out soon can look better than early ps3 games, then obviously these shots are in game.
Yash @ Aug 13th 2006 8:27PM
Whoa....I expected better. Dont get me wrong they do look good but it looks nothing like the videos from E3.
Lockout @ Aug 13th 2006 8:39PM
I'm glad that this game will come to 360 eventually. I'm an assassin whore and I didn't want to chip out the cash for the PS3.
Uchiha Shotito @ Aug 13th 2006 8:46PM
This is the only good game the PS3 will have, and it's also headed for the 360.
PS3 you loose again.
Riot9 @ Aug 13th 2006 8:49PM
I think it looks great. I don't plan on getting a PS3 for a while, so I'll gladly pick this one up on the 360 (if they ever confirm it).
Soothsayer @ Aug 13th 2006 8:56PM
God, Joystiq. You once again prove your bias against Sony. I'm sick of hearing your fanboy spinning. Forget Joystiq, I'm leaving and going to a non-biased REAL news source.
dauthi @ Aug 13th 2006 9:02PM
Wow, Oblivion on my 360 looks better than those shots. They must be running it on a PS3 dev-kit, should have gone with a 360.
Cat Meat @ Aug 13th 2006 9:03PM
#12,
Are you confusing the comments with the article? Because I see absolutly nothing anti-PS3 in:
"Every time we see pictures of this game, we can't help but be in awe. And, with this latest batch of screenshots to come about, Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed for the PlayStation 3 is looking sweeter and sweeter.

Who did you have to blow for your star?
Zero_ @ Aug 13th 2006 9:12PM
Looks fantastic (And is definetly real time, check out the enlarged shots) but it's a shame the talent and development is going into a world of blandess. It's no one's fault, but it's just the choice of environment; lots of regular grey buildings, fog, etc. It looks great, but when you look at something like Gears of War, it can keep your attention as in my opinion, it's genuinely more interesting with the glows, sparks, colour etc. And please don't label me an XBOX Fanboy, I'm not, I just think Gears of War looks fantastic.
Yuki~Summer Ver.~ @ Aug 13th 2006 9:18PM
Sure, the graphics/textures aren't the BEST out there, but darn it, it looks like a lot of fun, not to mention very immersive. Throw in top-notch animations a la Prince of Persia, and I think we've got a winner.
Looking forward to playing this on a 360.
nothing dude @ Aug 13th 2006 9:23PM
wow that looks good, but not "starve my wife and kid" good. If the cheaper xbox 360's version looks just as or good enough then... "sony who?"
adebacker @ Aug 13th 2006 9:26PM
I was somewhat dissapointed with these screenies, especially compared to the E3 vid. But we all know that graphics aren't everything, if the gameplay ends up being exaclty as they say it is going to be this could be a great game.
Here's to hoping that it comes to 360.
Derick @ Aug 13th 2006 9:27PM
Sadly, I've seen all of these before....
I'm pretty sure they were in GI a few months ago.
EXTREME TEAM! @ Aug 13th 2006 9:28PM
dude, like, i dont get it. theres not a single mountain dew logo in those pictures. and wheres the assasins get-away snowboard? how's he gonna get away?!
bounchfx @ Aug 13th 2006 9:29PM
I like how none of these screenshots are new.
Rare Hare @ Aug 13th 2006 9:39PM
Yeah, like bounchfx just said, these aren't new. They're so not.
I believe every one of these was in the Game Informer article back in, uh, January.

Yuki~Summer Ver.~ @ Aug 13th 2006 10:31PM
"res evil 4 can compete with these graphics!!!!"
Keep in mind that the environments in this game are huge. If the devs are to be believed, there are entire cities to explore in this game. Plural. Also the surrounding countryside.
I just hope they use that space well and fill it with interesting/useful things.
I agree with _Zero that it could use some color, but I'm still more than willing to try it out. This is the Prince of Persia team we're dealing with, and they're not exactly known for brightly colored games. However, when they do use color, it's usually quite nice (the tapestries on walls, the Empress' dress).
david @ Aug 13th 2006 10:35PM
i hope game play is awesome, because if you count out the sheer number of player models in the screen shots this could easily be the source engine
Jason W @ Aug 13th 2006 10:42PM
You know you guys need to stop bitching about Joystiq being biasted for or against your console. Ive felt before the 360 came out that they were against the 360 but that was just because there was some serious stuff that needed to be addressed before the system came out.
Now its the same way for the PS3. There is some serious stuff that needs to be addressed. Its good for the online community to talk and discuss these issues so that the companies can work out the kinks before the systems ship. I was wrong when i thought Joystiq was biased against the Xbox much like you guys are wrong about them be against the PS3.
Now for the game itself damn I hope this comes out for the Xbox. It looks so nice.
james f. @ Aug 13th 2006 10:47PM
Maybee the Sony fanboys are just confused since all other ps3 new is bad news that any glimmer of hope must be bad news as well.
Geist @ Aug 13th 2006 10:57PM
These look interesting. The effects look pretty good and the amount of civilians that can be on screen at once is fairly impressive, considering the level of detail.
I like the atmosphere. I mean, we're talking about a medieval setting here, right? Dark ages? There's no reason it should be bright or anything. It fits with the theme of death and the time. And this might sound weird, but I like the camera angle. Placed to the the side, not right behind the character.
That said, there's a strong possibility of bullshot here, as has been mentioned.
yubastard @ Aug 13th 2006 11:05PM
the textures look a little bit bland, but remember, it may not be PS3's fault... it's more like the artist's fault, and I agree, it has to be seen in motion...
also, look @ the self-shadowing and the fog, it's awesome!
brandon_r87 @ Aug 13th 2006 11:24PM
I thought the first Prince of Persia was fairly colorful, at least moreso than the second one. Also a lot more fun to play, despite the new combat system. Somehow, the badass metal music, the prince's new hardass attitude rubbed in a very bad way. It was like he was a grizzled veteran at an early age, but terribly wrong. I heard the third one was good and almost picked it up for $20. That article about Wal-Mart's bargain bin led me to it, but sadly no Psychonauts were to be found.
Curse you corporate America!
Rare Hare @ Aug 13th 2006 11:35PM
"Somehow, the badass metal music, the prince's new hardass attitude rubbed in a very bad way. It was like he was a grizzled veteran at an early age, but terribly wrong."
Well, consider the fact that he's been chased and hunted by his own destiny for several years between the first and second games. I think the hardened prince makes perfect sense for the game.
clearskin @ Aug 14th 2006 12:06AM
I looks good, but I agree with some of the above comments that these shots have likely been touched up. Some of the early Oblivion shots had the same look. These days it's best to wait until seeing the game firsthand before gushing over the visuals.
uh_oh @ Aug 14th 2006 12:33AM
Those screens are old I saw them in gameinformer.

#14 Cat Meat:
"Are you confusing the comments with the article? Because I see absolutly nothing anti-PS3 in [the article]."
Me neither. That's the point. I'm saying it's ridiculous to call Joystiq biased. It was a joke. I was portraying the anti-Sony crowd as ridiculous by imitating them on one of the pro-Sony articles that they always seem to neglect. I thought it was amusing, but I guess I can't blame you for not getting it, because neither did the mod who took my star.
Although, even if I weren't joking, it isn't very nice to suggest I fellated someone for my star (well, the star I used to have before a humorless mod came along...).
A sincere question for you: next time I try something like that, should I add a cheesy "hehe" at the end or something, to make it clear?
#0 Mod(s):
MY LAST COMMENT WAS A JOKE. There has been a lot of bad press about Sony lately, and a lot of accusations that Joystiq is biased. This was basically pro-Sony, so I decided to try to call bullshit on those who accuse Joystiq of bias by using satire.
Looks like it backfired. None of #14, #23, #26, or the Joystiq moderator got the joke. I lost my star for defending Joystiq. How ironic.
So, Mod(s), it would be nice to have my star back. It doesn't look too good for punishing someone for standing up for you guys, not to mention the sour taste left in my mouth.
inferno @ Aug 14th 2006 12:43AM
Guys, I was these pics in a recent Game Informer magazine. These appear to be the exact same shots (all except the horse maybe, but I am too lazy to go grab the mag). And I believe these are part of the intro. But it is supposed to be in engine. But I have also read that this will be one 360. I was excited about that cause the game sounds awesome. Ok, I found it... June issue 158 has all but the horse pic riding toward the castle. Sounds awesome. But it WILL be on the 360. And I am very sure it will look at least as good as PS3 version.
Rare Hare @ Aug 14th 2006 12:49AM
"Ok, I found it... June issue 158 has all but the horse pic riding toward the castle."
Correction, that issue is from JANUARY.
I had to look on the postage label to make sure... I really wish Game Informer would put the month on the magazine itself.
KawF @ Aug 14th 2006 1:21AM
Let's see... 3D Graphics + TimeTravel... 4D! :)
Chowweekly @ Aug 14th 2006 1:46AM
Some of you probably already know this but time is considered the 4th dimension. So basically you could call any 3d video game "4D" and no physicist would fault you on it. Can we all just agree that the whole '4D' comment was stupid and move on. After all, we have histioricallly accurate giant crabs, innovative real-time weapon switching, and Riiiiiidge Racer to make fun of.
Tony @ Aug 14th 2006 2:11AM
let's not just look how sharp the screen shot is.
to me, its weird that a assassin rides horse into a busy town during the daytime. and while he was fighting a guard, rest of town people seen like nothing happen. anyone ever thought about that??
KawF @ Aug 14th 2006 2:27AM
*** Start jokes, bad ones ***
Really, stop making fun of the giant crabs. How would you feel if you, like those ancient people came face to face with a giant crab! Of course you'd go for it's weakspot in order to incurr maximum damage! It's not like it's smart to stand there and hack away at it's claw while it's ripping you apart is it?
And real time weapon switching, would you prefer that it you'd have to gpo back to the castle, tetch your vassall and tel the bugger to fetch you the club, only to end up with the poor idiot bringing you a cub! That would certainly not be effective against a giant crab!
*** End jokes, bad ones ***
Oh, and Kaz made me buy Ridge Racer for PSP. I hate him now. It's a frickin great game, can't put it away. Best arcade racer I've played yet, even better than the good old Motorhead i think it was. Made by DICE anyway, the blokes behind the BattleField-series. (Awesome game. Even though it's reakishly old, it's still got somehow amazing graphics). Hmm... would be nice to see that on PSP, it should have more than enough horse-power to run a port of it.
Also, about 4D, yes, all games are what I would at least call 4D since at least most commonly the 4th dimension would be attributed to time. However, most of the time, the 4th dimension does not play any part at all of the game, or can be considered a major factor. However when you've got games like Oblivion where time does actually matter and what's it called, Timeshift or something, there time as a gameplay element takes a larger role, that at least would be something I call 4D. And yes, unless the timetravel in this game could be considered an integral part of the gameplay and not only story, than this is more of a 3D game.
Depending on how this game and it's gameplay is structured, it could be more like Oblivion (as in fully open), it could be more like GTA (which seems open, but is actually quite linear). It could of course also fully lack an "open" world and be more like PoP and have a linear storytelling where you traverse the world in a path fully created by the designers.
Games such as Oblivion have the capability of offering time-based gameplay and therefore I would call such games truly 4D. Everything is not all available at once, the time of day matters, etc.
Then of course we have games where time is an element that can be used to your advantage, such as PoP Sands of Time and Timeshift. These are however quite easily substituted with other types of gameplay elements.
My general preference is though to use 4D as a term for games where the passing of time affects gameplay in ways that are totally beyond the players control at most part. How would for example Oblivion be if it was always day. How would it be if the inhabitans needn't have lives? I like to call such 4D.
Then of course there could also be a 4D game where the fourth dimension is not time, but something completely different such as a metaphysical dimension or somesuch.
But the perhaps generally accepted label of the 4th dimension would be time. And the gameplay element it offers is a continously changing gameworld in part or mostly independant of the player.

Assassin's Creed is not coming to Xbox 360... i.e not yet confirmed. These Pics are not basically Screenshots as there is no health meter, Weapon Skills, etc. PS3 can do better than the Xbox 360. This is a first gen game for PS3 and GOW is the latest on the 360, dont compare both of 'em. I think you guys know math 3 < 7(Processor Cores)
It does have time travel and these are not new Screen Shots, they are indeed old ones like Rare Hare said.
Ameen,

Looks very nice, I'm glad I'll be able to play this on Xbox 360 too. Yes, I know it's not "officially" confirmed but everyone knows the truth since that leaked memo from Ubi.
The funniest thing is that the memo said there will be a Wii version too, so Assassin's Creed will be a multiplatform game just like Prince of Persia was. Actually it's a clever move from Ubi, they just make sure they get the most profit possible, no matter if PS3 sells like hot cakes or not.

Sweet. Someone finally responds to what I got to say about something. Honestly, I have to see it with my own eyes (i.e: a ps3 running the demo of this game) and then we will see if the game looks this good.

KawF @ Aug 14th 2006 4:14AM
@Aran
Which leaked Ubisoft memo?
Last I saw all this speculation on it coming to Xbox 360 was based on what some supposedly Ubisoft-related person at a tradeshow in france supposedly let slip out "off the record" to some "journalist". All other "confirmations" seem to have been based on that event too, such as the CVG "preview" and other occurances.
Do you happen to have a link to where one can read this memo?
Gianni Gotti @ Aug 14th 2006 4:16AM
Err....
Would anyone like to talk about the screenshots and the enormous potential of this game rather than the usual console war dogma?
X-flakes if it is released on the PS3 is that a problem for you?
$oni bois if it is released on the X-cast and looks just as good is that a problem for you?
Ok then...
soundrave @ Aug 14th 2006 5:39AM
Hei #40 / Ameen...
You seem rather confused.. PS3 does not have 7 processing cores. it has ONLY 1 processing core. the 7 "processors" are DSPs (SPU in sony's term). they are sort of like math processors, usefull for intensive graphics and video calculations but utterly useless in general processing.
multiplatform games MAY run faster on PS3 than 360, but it doesnt mean they will look better.
dont ever believe sony's hype that the PS3 is twice as powerful as the 360, even though the CELL is 2x more powerful than Xenon. It's the overall system architecture that determines the system's performance.
Hope you get that math corrected, ameen..
Thank you..
PS: for your reference, the floating point performance of the PS2's Emotion Engine is 6x more powerful than the Xbox's Celeron based CPU. And yet, Xbox games can look and run better than PS2... check you math again.

Here it goes: http://blogs.ign.com/metroidlink1030/p11
That site isn't very reliable but if you keep searching you can find it on bigger gaming sites too. The list has proven to be 100% true at this point. For example some of those Tom Clancy games were announced few weeks after that memo and the formats were exactly right, so this far I have no reason to suspect the memo's reliability. But you never know, maybe it's just a hoax with some lucky guesses. :)
