Just Cause demo coming Aug. 24

PC and Xbox 360 owners will be able to get their hands on a demo of the revolution-themed Just Cause starting Aug. 24. Rather than just another open-world GTA clone, Just Cause is more like GTA pumped up on steroids and injected with deep political meaning.
We played this game about a month ago and were impressed with its massive size (250,000 acres and over 300 missions) and stunt techniques. We'll see if the demo can capture that same sense of scope the devs are hoping to achieve.

what about plain xbox demo no luck?
ToastyBuffoon @ Aug 14th 2006 7:26PM
Sure sure. But do you get to kill hookers?

That's pretty cool that you guys got to play it already. Can anyone at Joystiq testify if the controls were good or bad for the gunfights? I've seen one video that showcased a gunfight, but that's about it. Every other video just showed stunts and vehicles. I'm guessing the control is crucial to gameplay because of all the tricks you can perform.

Hey Grim,
When Eidos showed me the game, I didn't get a chance to take control of the thing myself. It looked fairly standard, but I guess we'll all find out on Aug. 24 how good they are.
The stunts you can do are pretty crazy.

What's the "deep political meaning" in Just Cause? I'm guessing it's somethng like "freedom is good and repression is bad".
I prefer the shallow political meaning of GTA:LCS; namely: if you clear all the rampages, an M60 spawns at your safehouses. Three cheers for the right to bear virtual belt-fed arms.

Thats too bad you didn't get to actually play it Rob. It's probably going to be like all the other free-roaming shooters.
@ fat boy
Your character tries to stop the corrupt government or something like that. Plus the catch phrase for the game is "viva la revolucion".

Was it similar to total overdose?

If it is it has alot of potential. Too bad total overdose did not deliver.

I picked up Total Overdose for like 4 bucks at Target a while back. I gotta say, I enjoyed it and definetly got my money's worth. (ba da bum) It had it's problems sure, but what it lacked in finish it more than made up for in personality.

One question fo joystiq... Is tearing including in the deal or are we lucky this time?

It's good to hear that this is coming to PC. I hate it when a game I want to play is not released to PC - like that zombie killing game...

I got the chance to play the game at E3, and would deem it my favorite E3 PC game were it not for Bioshock and Supreme Commander (Brag: Supreme infiltration techniques were used to get to both presentations, even with press badge. End of Bragging).
From what I've seen, the controls are quite standart and work ok, even though I've played with wasd configuration and right-handed mouse, while being a lefty.
Speaking of comparing the game to other titles, I'd say it's a mesh-up of GTA, Far Cry, Mercenaries and Total Overdose with the plot of 'Republic'. There's open environment, tropical islands, crazy stunts, "recall" button which allows you to be picked up by a chopper and then skydive to another location, vehicle drop by demand and most importantly - the uber-awesome grappling gun. Seriously, the ability to paraglide after a vehicle and then pull yourself towards it in order to take-over is breathtakingly awesome the first time you do it! :)
