Digital apes hailing the NES controller -- what more could you want? Entitled "Also sprach Miyamoto" -- a reference to either
Nietzsche or "
that song from
2001: Space Odyssey," depending on who you ask -- this
Threadless T-Shirt submission currently has been scored by over 1,600 people and the comments show an extremely positive reaction, so we will likely (and hopefully) be able to add this piece of gaming chic to our wardrobe in the near future.
Incredibly hot!

As large and rabid as this design's following seems to be, I don't know if that'll be enough to help it clear the hurdle that is the copyright and intellectual property clause in the Threadless ToS.

...hmm... probably the red... ;)
Joshua Gooden @ Aug 14th 2006 7:31AM
It's definitely a reference to 2001. The NES controller is the monolith, get it?
ZENegade @ Aug 14th 2006 8:52AM
I wouldn't mind the same style shirt with a Wiimote for the monolith and several Donkey Kongs "getting to know themselves" a la opening scene of Mel Brooks' History of the World Part I...
Don Jose @ Aug 14th 2006 9:11AM
I would much rather see it as is than with a Wii-mote.

Incredibly Gaytendo.

You know, it's really sad when trolls don't even bother trying anymore.
For the actual pic... presuming they can get the rights to the DK and controller images, that is one sweet-looking shirt. It'd also look nice in red and orange or brown and white.

As a part-time t-shirt designer myself, I can say that this one will bring about some intellectual property issues. However, I've jumped through some hoops before to secure permissions for various designs, so perhaps Nintendo will be willing to sign off on this one due to its ridiculously sweet quality.
Being a Nintendo and Arthur Clarke fan myself, I'd totally wear this.
strider_mt2k @ Aug 14th 2006 11:47AM
Nice design!

The shirt is refering to "Also sprach Zarathustra," by Richard Strauss, the main theme of 2001: A Space Odyssey. It is the music that plays while the monkeys freak out over the Monolith.
PhantomVI @ Aug 14th 2006 2:44PM
And Strauss' title "Also sprach Zarathustra" was in itself a reference to Nietzsche. Maybe that's why people are incorrectly assuming the name of the design (which is quite rad) is a reference to Nietzsche.

Well, the guy could always release a high res version of the art, and we can put thm on t-shirrts ourselves.
Problem solved.
Chris Jeffery @ Aug 14th 2006 10:42PM
I hope this shirt gets made, it's absolute genius.
Finished.Law.School @ Aug 15th 2006 3:31PM
That should have been the Joystiq shirt from the get go.
