I was playing 20 minutes ago when the game stopped and 3 rred rings flashed on my console. luckily it still works once i reset it, but i had only been playing for ten minutes, there is no way it was overheated. So i go online and read this and now i'm scared to play the game again in fear that i will be 360-less for months if I do.

I was playing the Dead Rising demo and my 360 froze. This was after playing a few hours with no problems. After that it froze right before the dashboard loaded and then the ring of death. Not sure if Dead Rising did it or my 360 was just messed. Getting a new one today.

It might even be that when a new good game comes out, people start to play their 360's more, and then they discover the underlying problem with their defective-ass first run video cards.
My refurb 360 is supposed to come home today.
It died when I was trying to stream music, not because I played some new game.

After playing Dead Rising for 10 or more hours, I have yet to experience a freeze, glitch, or something similar.

My 360 is from December.

I had thought it was coincidence - my 360 started freezing several months ago and Microsoft replaced it via warranty service. The replacement console has been working for 6 months or so and on Sunday, 3 days after buying Dead Rising, it started freezing again.

Microsoft is replacing my console -yet again-.

So, there may be something to this after all.

My 360 had a few annoying "Disc is unreadable" errors, and it froze once, and I got the 3 rings once. Thankfully, the 3 rings were because I hadn't plugged my power cord in all the way on the back of my Intercooler, so when I jiggled it, the power died, giving me the 3 rings. And then I played for about 4 hours straight last night, and nothing happened.

I give up trying to figure out what's up with this thing...all I know is that my 360 is sitting almost in the middle of the room, so it can ventilate. If it dies, I'm going to knock Microsoft's door down and make them give me a new 360. I shouldn't have to buy a service agreement for a console that can't make it past 4 or 5 months anyway.

I bought the game and it was crashtastic so I exchanged it for a new copy. The new copy is also crashtacular so I went and bought a memory card ( I read somewhere that this was a harddrive issue and running the game without the HD would fix the problem..... no dice. Now I am just trying to decide if I should send my 360 in the be fixed or just buy a new one. I would hate to drop another hundred or so on refurb junk when it is just ultimately flawed launch hardware. ( this is what I get for lining up at launch )

Mine was from December and started freezing 2 weeks ago. By the end of the week, I couldn't even turn it on without getting 3 red lights. I haggled 25% off the normal $129 replacement fee, but was unable to get any lower than that. Thiefs! Hopefully I'll get my new box before Madden comes out!

Dead Rising generates a LOT of heat. I can play for roughly an hour and the back of the console is scortching and if I don't have a fan on it, I eventually get disc read errors. I pop out the CD which is usually hot itself (suggesting the DVD-ROM is constantly spinning) and let it cool off for a minute.

The same thing happened with Oblivion so I chalk it up to the DVD-ROM spinning like crazy and that very well could losen anything not soldered properly. I think if anything these games point to a symptom of some root cause that possibly may get handled eventually but most of the time it doesn't become a serious issue.

For those of you with 360 issues, are they older systems? Like from 2005? I got mine in June (no media remote in the box), so I'm kind of hoping it's from a different batch. I dread the red ring. I saw it once but it was because the power in my apartment dropped out for a second.

I had my first system randomly start to freeze a few months back, and now all it will do is flash the 3 red lights... What I can't believe is how horrible the warranty is for defective hardware. If I didn't do anything to cause the failure of the system than I don't see why I should have to pay $129 for a new one! I love the system when it works, but Microsoft needs to step up and acknowledge that there are way too many units failing to warrant such a steep replacement price.

picked up my 360 two months ago and have had no problems with any of the XBLA games or PDZ... Dead Rising has frozen on me several times with either the "disc is unreadable" message, a black screen between loads or just a frozen screen in the middle of gameplay.

fortunately there's been no red rings and it just takes a restart to get going again... hard to tell if its an xbox problem or a manufacturing defect in the game disc, either way it's annoying.

The way I see it, three things are happenning here.

1. The first few runs of a console has problems. This is unavoidable. PS2 had them, Xbox had them, SNES had them, and so on and so forth.

2. A very loud minority of people are complaining about their 360 freezing/overheating/breaking over and over again, so it seems a lot of people are havin problems. the 20 or so 360 owners in my area that I know personally all have first or second-run 360s, and none of them has had a problem yet.

3. Games are very demanding these days, if there is even the slightest flaw in a console, it would cause problems. Again, see number 1.

4. 360 haters who have nothing better to do are spreading rumors on the internet to make the 360 seem like a crappy console.

I bought 2 360s at launch, one Premium and one Core, both have never overheated, the Premium froze once while playing Oblivion, and I've never even seen a single graphical glitch. Go figure.

I think the first round of 360's definitily had some issues.
Some of these games are great but what a piece of crap the hardware is.

Not a single crash, glitch or anything from my launch 360.

If youv'e gone through multiple one system, it seems like it wouldn't be the 360s fault. You may want to make sure you power isn't spiking and have good circulation.

Surprisingly mine has been working fine, manufactured 10-21-2005 and a friend of mine has been playing Oblivion almost non-stop but he bought his about a month ago. Its sad to see these people having trouble while others doing fine, I guess I have been one of the lucky ones. The only thing I had to replace on my 360 was the controller because the down on the D-pad was not working properly. For all you people who are having trouble you may not have considered this issue, your 360 could be failing because dirty power. The 360 are a high performance piece of electronics and if it’s subjected to any form of power variations for an extended period of time it could fail because of this.

1. Try to determine what is running on the same circuit as the 360. Remove anything that might cause power surges, Air Conditioners, heaters, vacuum etc etc.

2. If you have a good surge bar not a cheap one it should tell you if the line is properly grounded. If its not try unplugging some of the devices from that circuit to see if the problem resolves its self, if not I would probably call an electrician to correct the issue.

3. Purchase an uninterrupted power supply with a voltage regulator on it. This will ensure that the power getting to the 360 is good and clean.

This is just another little tip for all you frustrated Xbox360 owners, good luck at getting your issues resolved.

No freezes, no rings of death (other than the occasional ones I get when the machine doesn't quite boot), no problems. I've been playing the game extensively (Look, I shoved a bottle of ketchup in his mouth and then impaled him with a lead pipe) without any problems on a machine from the second batch (ie: the ones that showed up in stores immediately after the launch replenishment).

Theres about a .000002 percent chance that a game can cause hardware problems. The only way I can think of, would be wearing out a DVD player ala starforce. This doesn't sound like that though, I doubt capcom is rewriting how the Xbox360 OS accesss DVD's. A game should never overheat a console, if it does, it's a console defect not a game.

Three rigngs of death = console flaw.
Freezing = software flaw.

I consider myself pretty lucky, ever since the last auto update I've only froze in oblivion. DR rising hasn't froze once, though I'm still only have about 5 hours of the game finished.

Consider yourself lucky if your 360 hasn't died yet. I just got a replacement one, after my launch-day one died a slow, one week death coinciding with that last 'backward compat.' update.

It's sort of a problem with the 360, and getting mad at us because we caught a bad one doesn't help, or make us feel any better, jerk-offs. I'm looking at you DJ PhatJive - I can tell by your writing style, attitude, and played-out screen name that I treat my electronics stuff better than you ever could - and my unmoved, properly ventilated box died. So go figure. People like you are who allow Microsoft and others to get away with borderline products and poor warranties.

"Work of art?" Get educated, clown.

I've played all the above games that people say "broke their 360" with no problems. Someone is saying they've gone through 7 consoles, I'm sorry but you are full of it! My 360 died almost 2 weeks ago. Locked up the first time I booted Prey. Restarted and deleted the partial save file it was creating while it locked up. Then the game worked fine, next day the machine locked up on Dead Rising Demo (day it came out). Guess the machine dies whenever it wants to. I'm still upset that M$ wants $129 to fix it. I decided not to pay them, but sell the broken machine and buy a new one with a warranty from the start.

first ask anyone on this board i am a 360 fanboy, it kills me to say this but

i am on my second 360, the first got was a premium lanuch unit from costco, a three ring hardware failure killed it about 3 months into ownership, im not sure, but outfit/NFS all worked fine. I currently playing dead rising but im not having any problems, except with chromehounds which did cause once a 3 ring, i powered off and restarted and it was fixed. it then occured to me what is problem wrong.

I really am thinking this is a powersupply issue rather then a hardware deflect, i think the use of powerstrips and crappy PWS is leading to a lot of 360 dying, it would make sense, a spike or lull in the flow of electrons would wreck havoc with them components of the 360. which over time would amount to a "hardware" failure.

I think the best thing to do is to plug your 360 directly into the outlet and let it suck up all the power it needs. that seems to have work for me so far, i have done some expriementing and when chromehounds was failing it was pulled into a power strip once i removed it i havent gotten a hiccup. a simple way to check to see if your powerstrip can't handle the 360 is to feel it, if you get a hardware error, check you powerstrip NOT the 360 PWS but the strip its plugged into, i bet it is VERY VERY hot, if not burning.

I wonder what the Power draw is for the 360, i mean if its 600w+ it would deaf needs a heavier grade power strip.

Since i thought this was stupid, i began to try some things and discovered that the package of freebies available were the responsible for the crashes. Game was running fine after i delete the extras and, sometime later i tried to change the clothes of the character and then the Error appeared again! Now im playing without changing clothes and its fine! Lame bug catching from Capcom!

Last week, my Xbox 360 I purchased in January failed. I was playing SFII:HFE while downloading the Dead Rising Demo. It finished and I *finally* beat it and preceded to start up the DR demo. I would get to the point where Frank is about to clobber the blonde with the fire extinguisher and BOOM! Lockup! My machine only froze once since I had it; while playing DOA. I tried reconnecting everything and repositioning the system and the power brick to no avail. I finally gave up and the next day replaced my system with the protection plan I had bought (I knew I was going to need it). I also purchased another 2-yr plan. ^_- My new system is working great with the retail release of dead rising and things are working great. I have no complaints; I just wanted to share my story. I am a *VERY* satisfied with this console.
