My guess is that the game will be on 2 discs for the GC as it is and adding Wii functionality would have pushed it to 3. It becomes much cheaper from a manufacturing point of view to just burn 1 DVD for the Wii version and 2 mini-discs for the GC rather than always burning 3 expensive GC-discs and annoying the user with having to change discs all the time.

No wonder the gaming market has become so formulaic. You give gamers, even the "hardcore," something new and they bitch about how they should have the old. Try something new.

Like I said in the post about this on WiiFanboy, what Nintendo should do is release a $60 special edition set that includes both the Gamecube and Wii versions. I wouldn't pay $100 for both, but I would pay an extra $10.
