Area 51 sequel in the works for next-gen

GamesAreFun has pointed out that according to some recent job postings, Midway is currently looking for a little help in developing a possible Area 51 sequel, called Area 52, of course. According to the listings, the game will most likely appear on the 360, PlayStation 3, and PC. Sorry Ninty fans, no Wii.
There is also another new IP listed as Criminal for the PS3 and 360. Area 51 was a decent FPS, so it'll be interesting to see what direction Area 52 will go. We can only hope David Duchovny will make a return appearance.

"Sorry Ninty fans, no Wii."
Because, you know, with the wiimote a game like that would actually make sense...

Do standard light guns work on LCD displays?... just something I have wondered about for a while now, would my gun-con work on a LCD or plasma display.

doh, just looked at the article, at first glance, I thought this was talking about the gun shooter game Area 51, not the FPS.

May I speak for Wii fans everywhere when I say, "you can keep it!"

Speaking of David Duchovny, I just finished watching the X Files episode F.P.S. (first person shooter) which was of course about video games (and the paranormal). It was funny to see and argument break out about the case (like normal) but to see Scully taking up the debate that video games cause kids to be violent and Mulder to defend games by saying that they were more likley an outlet for violence was priceless. Plus mulder was always right in the show so....

Yeah, leave it to them to NOT choose the console that could help bring this game franchise back.

I could care less about it not comming to the Wii. The first one got horrible reviews.

My favourite non-innovative shooter takes a comeback. Just hope they keep the pacing (Which A51 was all about)
And get Duchnovy OFF the voice acting. *shudder*
lol Marc, it got 8+/10 for the PS2 and 7-8+/10 on the PC/Xbox! Anyway, have fun with your $40 Far Cry/Red Steel ripoff.

I'm really surprised they're bothering to make another one of these. The last one sucked hard, like that girl down on 27th and Jane.
No Wii version? Good for Nintendo. They don't need bad 3rd party games, they need good ones.
Swizz @ Aug 18th 2006 11:13PM
wow, alot of game developers are idiots aren't they?
Nintendo has:
1. completly new gaming technology
2. 24/7 Wifi
3. Ability to download more levels and such
4. A solid history
Microsoft has:
1. better graphics
2. its "prettier" than xbox
3. online capablities
4. downloadable updates "possible"
Sony has:
1. better graphics
2. its "prettier" than ps2
3. disks have more space
4. online capablilites
Swizz @ Aug 18th 2006 11:14PM
oh, and PC has whatever you have
n8dogg @ Aug 18th 2006 11:52PM
Ha haaa!! Swizz, I just loved your list.
Two of those four points you listed under Nintendo should probably be fused into one that's called "online capabilities". Number 4 under Nintendo is also a bit moot, as Sony and Microsoft both have VERY strong histories... otherwise they probably wouldn't be in the race for this upcoming generation.
Number one I guess I could give you... But seeing as how Area 52 was released on the PS2 and the X-box last time around, I'm pretty sure the guys making the game won't be too choked up when they're in familiar waters like they are.

If people didn't let someone else tell them what to like via reviews and actually play the game (on pc or xbox, not PS2) they would learn it actually was good.
bikeage @ Aug 19th 2006 2:25AM
Area 51 on Xbox sucked, so I bet this will too.
Dante Kleinberg @ Aug 19th 2006 2:36AM
I thought this was talking about the arcade game also.
I'd love to see some Area 51-type light gun games for the Wii. Putting the Wiimote and the Nunchuck in that Zapper shell and playing arcade style light gun games on a big screen would make me a happy camper indeed.
Indeed!

Well, if you COULD care less, why don't you?
