Any guarantee these aren't just pre-rendered BS used to propogate lies, like E3 2005? I was EXTREMELY hyped over Killzone 2 and almost didn't buy an Xbox 360 because of it...when I found out it was all lies I was angered beyond belief. How are these any different?

Fagaymer makes the same comment on every post. "I was about to buy a 360. Now I'll wait for a PS3!" It'd be a fun Joystiq feature to dredge up all his comments and expose him for the fraud and Sony fanboy that he is.

I'm sure there are fanboys for every system pulling similar guerilla marketing tactics.

Got them all on my trusty Pre-order-dvd that was conveniantly in my mailbox today when I got home.

Really sweet stuff. Well, except for the 900MB Assasin's Creed trailer that was just 2 minutes long. My computer couldn't even handle playing it back in full speed...

That Lair trailer... sweet.

Seriously, I am not going to droll until I see in game action, not CGI because PSX FFVII looked amazing, until the cutscene was over and I had to start playing the game!!!

Blech. One would think that a next gen system would be able to afford textures that don't look like ass. Mario Galaxy looked better up close than that.

Why is it that Metal Gear is the only PS3 game that seems to actually be gameplayt that doens't look like crap?

The F1 game trailer specifically states it's using the in-game engine to generate the trailer. The Warhawk is likely in-game... And of course there are the usual amount of pre-rendered CG scenes - just like for the 360 games, haters.

I understand how these companies feel we need to be excited by trailers, ones that feel like movies, but at some point, we need to see the gameplay to understand what we actually do in a game like LAIR...

@16:
If the Warhawk footage ISN'T in-game then they need to fire whoever did the CGI, as it barely rivals the Gamecube for graphical complexity. Really, they should be ashamed to show that...The F-1 looks better, but it's nothing compared to the DirtStorm footage they showed at E3 2005 - which of course turned out to be impossible lies.

I'm sick and tired of the "high quality" videos being 640x480 or something pathetic like that. 1280x720 or bust.

Although Xvid or Divx would have been better than MPEG-2 just for bandwidths sake, that's their problem, not ours.

I don't know why everyone is all up in arms about the non gameplay footage... ever since the PS1/N64 years, trailers have shown less and less in-game action. It's not like Sony is the only company who does this.

Meh, I will wait until after launch. Usually launch games are pretty weak (PS2, DS, PSP) as devs have not learned how to get the most out of the hardware. I will wait for about a year, and then buy, if the PS3 actually delivers on its promises; if not, oh well.

I don't get it. I watched and tried my damndest to be objective. Really! I did!

The problem is that while these trailers are very nice looking, we saw glimpses (Don't blink! They're in there) of gameplay that rivaled or JUST BARELY BESTED current-gen systems (Xbox360 notwithstanding), they're just mainly just cutscenes...

...The kind of cutscenes that you have to sit through for FOURTY-FIVE FUCKING MINUTES when you pay $11 to see a movie at the theatre. This parallel gets my blood boiling.

Sony, box office sales are dropping faster than Courtney Love's panties, and it's because going to the Theatre is a painful experience. Do you really think bringing home that trauma is going to equate to SALES?

Once upon a time, we used to sit and gaze at cinematics, carefully holding our controllers as to not touch a button, knowing full and well that cutscene goodness if you so much as BREATHE on the controller, you'll be hitting the proverbial Skip button and miss everything. Of course, that was before the novelty wore off.

Now that it has, the most recent trend in games is the UNSKIPPABLE cutscene. I have nightmares about this, while Black's 14 minutes of boring dialog drones on and on while I claw my eyes out and stuff them in my ears just to make it end.

I can't imagine all this pretty CGI is going to waste...

It seems that most people are discussing whether or not the footage is in-game or not. The one thing I think we can all accept is that the PS3 games will look better. We just don't know how much better. We're still finding out how good the PS2 can look (with developers still discovering new tricks to get the most bang for their graphical buck).

It's logical to assume we wont see the best graphics of the PS3 for some years to come. However, the third party support will predominantly be behind Sony so if a person wants to play a Sony franchise they'll have to buy a PS3, graphics be damned. For example I play Final Fantasy and God of War because they can only be played on a PS2, not because Sony produces the best graphics.

The PS3 and coinsumer's regard fot it, like any console, with thrive or wither on developer support.

The slim packages lining the walls at Gamestop etc. are called games, not graphics.

What I find amusing is that if a video looks good, it's immediately berated as being CG, and not in-game footage. Whereas if it DOESN'T look awesome, it's pounced on and derided for not looking "next-gen" enough.

Seriously, I don't trust Sony any more than you guys do. But unless you're going to offer an educated opinion as to exactly why a particular video is "obviously prerendered," or how a game that features advanced graphical effects like volumetric clouds (Warhawk) could possibly look inferior to GameCube graphics, you're just wasting bandwidth.

I'm still waiting for my killer app on any of the new systems. I haven't seen it yet, and until I do, I won't be handing over any amount of money, be it $600 or < $250.

Graphics, Blu-Ray, motion-sensing controllers... Great, fine, whatever. I just want to play some awesome games. Wake me up when they arrive.

Very well sad, Gary. But you neglected to mention that consumer regard also hinges on perceived value. The games can be plentiful, but if they're not worth the added cost the system to play them on has lost it's value.

The slim notes in my wallet are called dollars, not Sony trust-fund holdings. ...Sorry, couldn't help it. That sentence was just too cheesy not to parody it.

Graphics are how you judge a system's long-term capabilities, so any estimation at this point is very important. Knowing whether the system is capable of matching the Xbox 360 in graphics, or is meerly limping along behind a smokescreen of CGI is imperative in assessing it's value.

" However, the third party support will predominantly be behind Sony so if a person wants to play a Sony franchise they'll have to buy a PS3, graphics be damned. "

Well, that remains to be seen now, doesn't it? Microsoft and Nintendo have had bulked up third party support thus far. And the third party devs will go where the user base is. If Sony can't get the units out there fast enough they'll keep going elsewhere.

Personally I've never been a big fan of Sony's systems. Sony's first and second party games have never appealled much to me, and the better third party games have usually looked better elsewhere. While Sony has had many more games, I've never found them to have many BETTER game, usually the same amount of good games.

However, Sony has really kicked it up a notch the past 24 months. God of War, Katamari, SotC and now that wolf game. Four Sony exclusives I've loved. Arguably the first four, haha.

Because someone asked for it, here are some of fagaymer's best PS3 fanboy comments:

"or you could get a PS3 and still play all these cheap games! Since Sony has backwards compatibility unlike Microshaft."

"Josh, while you're waiting for Microshaft to fix your broken backwards compatibility, I'll be playing my new PS3 games and some cool cheap PS2 games and watching my BluRay movies all on one nice device. You'll be busy trying to hook up your stupid new hdvd crap thingamajig that should have been built inside in the first place and waiting for yet another patch to Microshaft's rushed console!"

"This is SO last generation. Sony introduced this years ago!"

"Looks like the Sony exclusives just keep on coming. This is going to be a popular game. I can't wait to get this to play when I get my new PS3...Backwards Compatibility is so important to me! I'll also have to pick up God of War 2!"

"I think it looks fine. Keep in mind...

1.) You don't have to buy that add-on dvd drive cough cough Microshaft
2.) You don't have that big brick to stick in a freezer to cool. Don't forget that you have to have a freezer to store your power supply in with your Xbox."

"Yes, but...With the PS3 it's all in one elegant package. With this you have two individual ugly monstrosities. I'd rather have the PS3. I don't want the disk drive to be an afterthought. It's best to get something that was well thoughtout in advance. Microsoft screwed this one up badly."

"Their testers are PITIFUL!

You're half undressed
Eatin' chips of your chest
While you're playin' Halo 2
No one's classier than you"

"They'll be lucky if they outsell the PSP this Christmas! Hell they are barely outselling the GameCube!"

"Who the heck is he? Why should I care what he thinks? I've never heard of him and I checked around and nobody I know seems to have heard of him either. Good try though! The Wee is a controller upgrade and the other consoles are graphics upgrades. The only thing is...Sony has the new controller AND the graphics. Microshaft doesn't have the new controller. I hope I made that clear enough."
