There goes your 600$ To a mediocre interface that calls itself modern and simplified to match the overrated iPod bullsh*t aesthetics.

Well played, Sony, well played.

Okay, looks good so far, but I was really hoping to see the 'launch Linux desktop' icon somewhere.

I do not buy the argument that because the PS3 is new and complex, it should have a new and "creative" interface. Does such a UI increase usability? It takes hard work to develop UI's and test them with focus groups. It's not about adding more bells and whistles so your brain explodes.

Can I get to different tasks faster, or am I lost all the time in menus upon menus? Are kids and grandparent going to be able to pick up and use this thing? Pick up an ipod and then some other player, for example, and try to figure out which one is actually more usable, where someone thought about how the design works rather than whether its fancy.

I'm sure that the interface will meerly be a default setting. We'll probally get other downloadable UIs and other stuff. Plus you can probally fully customize the backgorund as well. Why is it that everybody has to give Sony crap? It's like every Wii and 360 fanboy feels that Sony is the devil and Nintendo and Microsoft are innocent/perfect companies.

#103 (gozirah):

The Creative Zen actually has a better UI than the iPod. Not only is the Zen's UI more asthetically pleasing and more customizable, it also is more user friendly with more options. I would equate the iPod to the PS2, it is popular simply because it is popular, not because it is the better product. CES this year voted the Zen the best MP3 player and I for one agree. I would also say that a "next-gen" system should look more impressive than the PS3's UI. It looks like Windows 3.11 compared to Windows XP on the 360. Is Win 3.11 usable? Sure, but I sure wouldn't buy it on my new PC...

Ouch...tiny, tiny text. Even with a HDTV you'll have to hoist yourself off the sofa and crawl across the living room floor everytime you want to change something.

"This is what you'll see when booting up your PS3"

A basic interface that uses up around if not over 20% of PS3s proccessing power?

Lol...

It looks pretty fake to me. Why? It doesnt contain any Blu-Ray options. It lacks WEB Browser. I cant see any Audio/Video/Pictures folder. I have a strong feeling that Sony will go with a black background coz their console is black.
