European PS2 price drop and pretty new pink model [update 1]

The formula has worked disturbingly well for companies like Nintendo and Apple: a fresh coat of paint and you've opened up a whole new customer base. The new Pink PlayStation 2 will debut at the Leipzig Games Convention in Germany, August 23-27th. This sexy little thing is going out dancing with a pair of Dual Shock controllers and a Memory Card, and they're all wearing their prettiest matching pink outfits. And, UK-only, they'll be joining up with SingStar Pop at the karaoke club! Just how much will this little bundle of fun cost? €159.99 or £129.99 in UK (bundled with SingStar Pop). Seriously, resistance is futile Europe.
[Update: These things come in threes. It looks like the PS2 isn't the only console getting the pink treatment. Those rumors (from last year!) may have been premature, but Sony is finally making a pink PSP! Joy! It will be available Oct. 27th in Europe only for €229, or £169. They're also employing colorfully-named popstress P!nk to pimp their pink PSPs. We can think of a lot of things we'd rather have Sony invest their efforts in PSP-wise than a pink version. Just saying.]

I personally think coloring a console pink is a gimmick but Sony don't do gimmicks. Do they?

Being French and a big fan of pink (the most masculine color ) I think this is the best looking PS2 to date. Makes me thirsty for a strawberry milkshake.

kaizai, the white PSP came out before the white DS Lite.
However, a white DS Phat came out before the white PSP.
That said, pink systems are nothing new. I think pretty much every system has a pink Hello Kitty version in Japan. :-)

Now looking at that PS2, didn't anyone ever wonder why they didn't make a smaller memory card so it doesn't stick out over the controller plug-in? Granted it would be smaller than the mem card holder in the PS2 game cases, but who cares? It'd be more aesthetically pleasing. Nintendo be doing with the rumble pak for the DS Lite.

Ok, aside from looking like the Paris Hilton version of the PS2, you have to admit this model has some serious advantages.
1) The console will not get lost in a crammed entertainment unit, and
2) You will always be able to find the controller.

Before we know it, Sony will be release ...
1. a motion sensitive controller (This is a gimmick on the Wii but its an Innovation on PS3)
2. PS3 Live (Who wants Xbox live when you can have the real deal - PS3 Live)
3. Achievements system
4. 2 SKUs (This will confuse xbox 360 buyers but not Ps3 buyers)
5. Sonydogs (Sounds better than Nintendogs?)
Sony are really the innovators of the industry!!!

When are games companies gonna learn that, making the console Pink isn't going to get girls into gaming.
I mean did they the big wigs really sit there and go:
Sony BW 1: "We need to increase the number of girls paying.... er playing"
Sony BW2: "Yeah at the EIEF they're going to say that we can get upto one billion dollars if we crack the girl market!"
Sony BW1: "Hmmmmm.......How can we do this?"

I have been waiting for this price drop for ages. Unfortunately it came wee bit late. I waited and waited, but they just didn't want to drop that price. Xbox and Gamecube had more power (newer tech), but they were cheaper than PS2, never understood that. If the price had dropped a year or two ago I might have bought it, but now I couldn't care less.
Although I might get an used PS2, because it has some interesting games I would like to try. Just have to wait for PS3 to come out, after that pawn shops and game stores will be filled with used PS2 consoles.
Pink? How on earth is that going to fit any sane persons living room decor? Pink console would fit perfectly in a Barbie house (but actually it couldn't fit physically).
