Know it uses source means, to me, that the faces have great lip sync and the physics pwn. Unreal means it'll look good. But the real answer is I don't care what the engine is as long as it looks (and plays) great. w00t first post!

Oh yay, more games using the Unreal 3 engine! That means we can have a great diversity of types of games. They won't all be wearing 50 pound space armor with big futuristic guns in their hands... right?

For instance,

Mass Effect

Huxley

Too Human

UT 2007

Gears of War

Let's hear it for diversity! Wait, isn't this game coming for the Wii, too? Hmm. I thought it couldn't handle the Unreal 3 engine?

Well, time to rethink Wii...
15 bucks on Airborne using Renderware next-gen. Wayy too late for a complete middleware change.

Isn't this the same guy who said Sony would lower the price of the PSP soon, which Sony denied shortly after?

I agree with #2.
Stop using the unreal engine and start making proprietary engines. Games are beginning to look all the same, especially the characters looking like Ken dolls.

Do you guys not realize that Unreal Engine is *more* than a graphics engine? What the game characters look like has *nothing* to do with which engine they use.

Scroll down below the graphics section:

For example, Brothers in Arms is a UE3 game:

Engines matter somewhat to me. I refuse to play anything on the clunky Doom3 engine.

#5, problem with that is that this so-called "next gen" (of graphics) costs so damn much to make a game, that it would add at least a year, and many million dollars, to make an engine from scratch. Microsoft and Sony and idiots like Mark Rein are going balls-out with a focus on visuals. It's a double-edged sword, really. It's cheaper and easier to just buy an engine than it is to code a new one for the PS3/360, and unfortunately there are only a couple good middleware engines. Fortunately, every time i see the much-overused Doom 3 engine and the Unreal 3 engine (I can spot them a mile away), I know which games to avoid unless they are phenomenal.

EA is most certainly using RenderWare for next-gen games (I'm a "Solution Architect" for RenderWare tech, and played a big part in introducing most of EA to RenderWare). In fact, practically every title not using Unreal is using RenderWare: Godfather, Spore, Black, FIFA, NBA, NHL, Battlefield (on the consoles), Harry Potter, ...

Of course, it's best tech for the job; if you're doing a next-gen FPS, why not use a next-gen FPS game engine (like Unreal)?
