Guild Wars Nightfall arrives Oct. 27

NCsoft and ArenaNet have announced that both the standard and collector's editions of Guild Wars Nightfall will be available Oct. 27. If you can't wait that long to begin exploring the new continent of Elona, the pre-release bonus pack ships in three weeks.
Achtung! For those of you attending the Games Convention in Leipzig this weekend, be sure to check out the final rounds of the Guild Wars Factions Championships.

The Guild Wars Nightfall collector's box looks pretty sweet. This series is a pretty good alternative to the bigger, World of Warcraft, and is free. This game comes out just a few days before Final Fantasy XII though; which is going to give my friend a headache.

Stop releasing games people! I need to save my money for the Wii damnit!!!
Karmakin @ Aug 24th 2006 9:54PM
Agreed!
Actually, knowing my bloody luck they'll launch this right at the same time as the Wii.
Considering I'll need two copies (one for me, one for my wife)...I'm not sure which one I'll choose.

Previous 2 chapters were also Friday releases. Yay for vacation day for long gaming weekend!

I don't understand the pre-release thing. Can you actually play the game with it? Or ???
dazsly @ Aug 25th 2006 3:36AM
I thought they only released the last expansion about 4-5 months ago?
So add up £35 x 3 = £105
So its a sneaky way of keeping "subscription free" and you guys keep paying!
Still if you enjoy it go for it, I tried to like this game but its too linear for me.

@ dzsly
That was their plan all along. I prefer it to the normal subscription fee, why? Because you're getting lots and lots of new content for every expansion, rather than paying for the privilage to play with the occasional update that adds something.

Also, it's not necessary to buy every new Guild Wars, so you can just buy one of them and play that for free. If you have to buy each one, however, it is still WAY cheaper than $15 a month for other games, since each new Guild Wars is going to be released every six months.

@ Synergy:
The pre-release box is just like pre-ordering any other game. You put down your 10 bucks and then, when the game releases, you bring your receipt back and pay the remaining cost.
For Factions, the pre-release box let you take part in a preview event for the 3 days before the game launched. They may do something like that this time as well.
The bottom line is, if you just buy the pre-release box and dont buy the actual game, you wont be playing Nightfall.

What sucks is that according to EB Games and Gamestop, if you want the preorder bonus, you'll have to pay $5 extra. It also doesn't look like you'll be able to get the bonus if you preorder the Collector's Edition.
Oh, and to you people who think that having extra expansions means we are paying a secret fee, you're wrong. With Guild Wars, you can buy just one game, and play it forever and never pay another dime. With a game like WoW, you can buy the main game, and play it forever, but you would still have to pay $15 a month.

The pre-release box is *NOT* like pre-ordering a game. NCSOFT/ANET changed it from 'pre-order' (like in Factions) to 'pre-release' (NightFall) due to the extra slot in the 'pre-release'. You are paying an extra $5 for the 'pre-release' version; it does NOT act as a down payment! Check EBGames for more details. EBGames has two different products details for each 'package'; regular and pre-release.
Educate yourself, you fools.
