The Minibosses were the final bosses at PAX concert

He's a little bit hip-hop, they're a little bit rock and roll.
The Minibosses were the second and final band last night and the final band in the PAX concert series, following Friday night's performances by Optimus Rhyme, the NESkimos, and the always popular Video Game Pianist, Martin Leung. Their metal interpretations of classic video game tunes made our fingers ache for the day when maybe, if there is a benevolent deity, Activision will see fit to release a Guitar Hero expansion with only Minibosses tunes.
Cell phones at U2 concerts? Pffft. We've got the main theater of the Meydenbauer Convention Center teeming with fans, all waving their brilliant (and copious) DS Lites in unison, screaming out "Rygar" and "Castlevania" between tracks. One of the Guitar Hero: Minibosses interstitials could read, "They don't really want you to play Rygar. They're just heckling you." More pics of the rock and a setlist after the break.

The first Pictochat intermission.

As the cell phone was to the lighter at rock concerts, the DS Lite is to the cell phone. It's got twice the screens and they're bright.

Water is their weak point. Attack it for massive damage.

Star power!

The second Pictochat intermission ... but not the last. The whole team seems to be rocking Lites as well.
The Setlist (or: Our Guitar Hero dream package)
- Ninja Gaiden
- Mega Man 2 (Rock Man indeed!)
- Bionic Commando
- Super Mario Bros. 2
- Joust?
- Double Dragon
- Wizards & Warriors
- Castlevania 1
- Punch-Out!
- "Test your Endurance" Song
- Contra
- Castlevania II: Simon's Quest
- Contra

i would TOTALLY buy guitar hero is there was a minibosses expansion.
but i guess it'll only be fore like the Wii, which is still pretty cool, but maybe they'll save it for Nintendo's Next System

Minibosses...*GASP*...AWESOME! I _LOVE_ their covers. Anyone heard their cover of Kid Icarus? It's so awesome.
SJT @ Aug 27th 2006 4:23PM
Dear Joystiq,
The amount of coverage that you have been giving to PAX is pointless and uninteresting. It distracts from any actual interesting news going on in the world of gaming. If I wanted to know this much about PAX I would go to Penny Arcade's website.
Thanks!

PAX is not for "gamers"
its for complete "Dorks"
please go back to the normal actual gaming coverage with the dash of anti-sony spice, enjoyed it much better
GSI @ Aug 27th 2006 4:28PM
Dear SJT,
Joystiq is not the only gaming blog on the internet. There are also gaming media sites as well that cover the industry...learn to search around instead of complaining.
Thanks!

god I can't wait for this PA stuff to end. I don't know who they are (i really couldn't care less for online comics (yes, it's couldn't care less. not could care less. that implies you have more than no care in you)), I don't care who they are and Minibosses? I've heard some of their stuff from random sites but really to see them in concert... well I'd be glad I took my DS Lite and a few games. Or a disassembled PS2 to guide a missile into the whole situation.
and who is this Nerdcore guy? actually don't answer that. I don't care :) I've got games to play this evening.

minibosses > all
your playlist is missing ghosts and goblins though :(
Kiggles @ Aug 27th 2006 6:35PM
jesus fucking christ the readership of this website blows, who the fuck are you people? Keep on keepin' on Joystiq, I can't believe you'd actually miss the hits from these fucking jackasses.

Joystiq!!! More PAX coverage, don't listen to these whiners! This is the kind of article that makes me come back everyday...
Fo0dNippl3 @ Aug 27th 2006 8:19PM
Excitebike!! They played Excitebike, too! It was awesome.
A Crown Of Amaranth @ Aug 27th 2006 8:27PM
Check out the Advantage as well...the guitarist form Hella plays drums for them and they rule.

Anyone familiar with Game Over? They have 3 songs on OCRemix.org, and they roxxorz my boxxorz. They add awesome lyrics to the songs, and they sound great. Give them a listen.
Leningrad @ Aug 28th 2006 12:55AM
the "endurance test" was the theme from Excitebike, I believe.
also, Christopher, Canada has arrived. they are here for your women.

I was there on Saturday (didn't stay for this concert though) and you couldn't go anywhere in the building without seeing DSes all over the place. In contrast, I think I saw a total of about 10 PSPs the whole time I was there. If I was Sony, I would be more than a little concerned about this.
raindog @ Aug 28th 2006 2:51AM
Pretty sure Joust didn't have any music, btw. (Did any Williams games? Bubbles, maybe?)
CAL_GORE @ Aug 28th 2006 3:52AM
If indeed Test Your Endurance was Excite Bike, you forgot to list it again; they played it when they came back for the encore. Honestly, I could listen to that 5 second bit of music over, and over, and over, etc.
"10 more times!"
stiill @ Aug 28th 2006 4:51PM
Metroid was played.
As others have already mentioned, "Test your endurance" was Excitebike.
And I'm glad you "10 more time"-ers didn't get your way! No more Excitebike at Minibosses concerts! Boo!
