GameStop memo lists 36 PS3 games at $59.99, 19 potential launch titles

GamersReports.com has posted an alleged internal GameStop memo, which documents 36 PlayStation 3 titles scheduled for release between launch (November 17) and May 1*, all listed at $59.99. While hardly official, these details will likely alleviate some of our fears that PS3 games will retail for more than $60.
According to the GameStop memo, the PlayStation launch lineup could include these 19 titles (exclusives in bold):
- Bladestorm: Hundred Years War
- Call of Duty 3
- Fatal Inertia
- Full Auto 2
- Genji 2
- Lair
- Madden NFL 2007
- Marvel Ultimate Alliance
- MotorStorm
- NBA Live 2007
- NBA 07
- Need for Speed: Carbon
- Rainbow Six: Vegas
- Resistance: Fall of Man
- Sonic the Hedgehog
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007
- Tony Hawk's Project 8
- Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom
- Warhawk

im not lookig forward to anything here, especially none of the exclusives... sigh
at nearly $700 to play a single game on the system, i think if i ever buy a ps3 it would need to have 6 exclusive must have games.
Jake @ Aug 28th 2006 2:06PM
Not too shabby. I didn't know that Lair was coming this soon. Has there been any gameplay shown for it yet? And why would a game be released before the console? Is there something goofy going on there or what?
urbanstorm @ Aug 28th 2006 2:09PM
I'll save some of you the time by posting answers from all 3 fanbois/girlz:
Sony Fanboi's : OMFG our launch is 100x better than what M$ Xbox180 had , sony going to own all consoles...
Xbox360 Fanboi's:OMFG all those game are the sux0r 360 getting all those games too and it gonna 200 less to play.
Nintendo Fanboi's: OMFG another system with $60 games Wii gonna own j00.....
Zero @ Aug 28th 2006 2:10PM
That's not an internal memo. You can ask any GS/EB employee to print out a list of upcoming PS3 games. Even a list of upcoming Wii games.
kaindragoon @ Aug 28th 2006 2:14PM
Deja vu?
Anybody remember if the last leaked Gamestop memo had the same design and was actually real?
theburn16 @ Aug 28th 2006 2:14PM
Jake, it is common practice for games to be released before the console. if you picked up an xbox 360 at launch you could've gotten your games a couple days in advance
Pseudo99 @ Aug 28th 2006 2:18PM
This is news? Holy crap, I'm gonna go up to work and press the print button a few times!
This stuff has been in our system for months, if a customer asks for a printout (they hardly ever do), we're happy to give it to them.
Usually when we get an internal "memo", it's something I read about already on Joystiq or other site a day or two before.
Art Vandelay @ Aug 28th 2006 2:21PM
Holy crap good PS3 news!!!!!!!!!
For launch the lineup looks promising, Madden alone could probably hold me until the library expands. But I'll probably pick up NBA Live and RFOM or Rainbox six vegas for some variety.
Man my wallet is going to be light as air this holiday between the Wii and PS3
Chris @ Aug 28th 2006 2:23PM
CORRECTION...
FULL AUTO 2 IS NOT A PS3 EXCLUSIVE! Doesn't joystiq fact check?
kaindragoon @ Aug 28th 2006 2:24PM
36 games and SKUs from 270001 to 270037...
Hey next time you go work, can you figure out what game has an SKU of 270036. I can't seem to find it on the list...

AlloyNES @ Aug 28th 2006 2:27PM
*yawn* How exciting (insert sarcasm). Where are the fun games?
Chris @ Aug 28th 2006 2:34PM
Every console has a weak starting lineup. Killer apps don't come until a year or two later.
The we get into the games made for both consoles and ports that usually come to both. Which will be better? 360 or PS3? PS3 because of the fact it will be graphically superior.
I for one love Playstations exsuives more than 360's. And I think the ps3's will be a lot better. This is where evryones opinion differs.
Now, the cost of each system? I'm sick of people bashing ps3's price. Take a look at two senarios.
Senario 1- without tax-
Customer bought a 360 ($399.99) at launch (Nov2005). Has yearly xbox live account. ($49.99) Bought one game ($59.99)
Year 1: $509.97 year 2: $559.96 Year 3: $609.95 Year 4: $659.94 Year 5: $709.93
Senario 2- without tax-
Customer bought a ps3 ($599.99) at launch (Nov2006). Has free PS3 online serve. Bought one game ($60)
Year 1: $659.99 year 2: $659.99 Year 3: $659.99 Year 4: $659.99 Year 5: $659.99
In the end.. PS3 will cost less. Pwnt.
Dirk Dorkelson @ Aug 28th 2006 2:35PM
Is it just me, or is Fatal Inertia the lamest title for a video game in a long time? It sounds like it's a game about a dude who sits around on the couch all the time and battles high cholesterol, blood clots and other inactivity-related health problems.
mykie @ Aug 28th 2006 2:38PM
fucking AWESOME
19 titles available BEFORE the launch of the console!
dsub @ Aug 28th 2006 2:50PM
19 sounds about right. I remember around this time last year there were around 40 titles on gamestop/eb's websites that could be potential launch titles, and it ended up being 17 or 18 games. Expect some of these games to launch a week or two after the console as well.
I had all of my 360 games in my possesion 3 days before I even got the system. In fact, I even had the extra controllers. The only thing I had to pickup on launch night was the actual system itself. The reason behind this is that alot of games don't adhere to a strict launch date. Some do, usually the big name titles, but ask any Gamestop/EB/Best Buy employee and they'll tell you that alot of games come in days, sometimes even weeks early. We had all our 360's sitting in the back room for almost a week before launch. Halo 2 sat back there for almost a month. I remember how bad I just wanted to steal a copy of it.
Zozart @ Aug 28th 2006 2:54PM
Oh man!
Not a single one of those exclusives makes me want to shell out £400. I'm glad that I'm not missing anything except maybe wearing out both my wrists waving that horrid controller from side to side to barrel-roll in Warhawk.
I'm not a fanboy. The 360 launch sucked too. I didn't buy one of those until two months ago (but I love it). The Wii will be the only next-gen console I snag at launch. Zelda forever (OK maybe I'm a teeny bit of a fanboy)!
Evan @ Aug 28th 2006 2:55PM
"The we get into the games made for both consoles and ports that usually come to both. Which will be better? 360 or PS3? PS3 because of the fact it will be graphically superior."
Are you sure?
First, it's not entirely clear that the PS3 is actually superior to the 360. Sony has a track record of over-hyping their systems - they said the BS about the PS2's "emotion engine" six years ago. And even if the cell processor lives up to its hype (unlike the emotion engine), that says nothing about the GPU. And the PS3's GPU isn't looking all the hot.
Second, even if the PS3 is more powerful than the 360, most developers are unlikely to use it. It's cheaper to develop for the lower common denominator. Also, developers have had 360 dev kits for much longer, and Microsoft's kit is really nice and easy to work with. Most multi-platform games will have been developed primarily on the 360 and ported over to the PS3, and unless Sony improves their dev environment, it'll stay that way.

Except for people like me, who have no intention of buying an Xbox Live account. I just want to play GTA 4, and other single player games, and some "couch multiplayer" party games for when I have friends over. I don't have time to spend hours playing games online, nor do I have time to get good enough at said games so that I won't instantly get killed playing online. I'm sure there are many late 20s gamers like myself who also feel the same way.

existonfile @ Aug 28th 2006 3:27PM
Hey Chris,
So, if you buy a system at launch and only buy one game and play that game online for 5 years then the PS3 will eventually be a better value. That's some twisted "never gonna happen in real life" logic buddy. What happens to your theory when Microsoft stops charging for xbox live? What about if Sony starts charging for their service? What if you get tired of that one game? Whoops, busted. Stop trying to defend Sony's price. It is what it is, and it's that way because of the blueray drive, plain and simple. If I owned an hdtv and thought blueray was the next dvd, then I would be all over the ps3. It would seem like a downright bargain. But, since I'm not, and all I want is to play some games with great graphics I'll save $200 and stick with the 360.
It's all about priorities and whats important to you as a gamer. People will buy whichever system fills their needs. No need to create crazy charts and twisted reasoning to say "OMG PS3 is not more expensive, 360 is. Look at 0 facts".

Hey Evan,
"Second, even if the PS3 is more powerful than the 360, most developers are unlikely to use it. It's cheaper to develop for the lower common denominator."
~You were here for the PS2/Xbox generation, right? Play *ANY* game that's on both, and tell me the graphics are brought down to the lowest common denominator. Xbox looks clearly better for every game on both systems. Also, when games are developed for multiple platforms, you do realize that different people code for each system right? They just have a unified director/producer. The programmers that know PS2's language don't know Xbox's language, or vise versa. It comes down to jack of all trades, master of none if they knew both languages... But surely a master of knowledge such as yourself already knew that...
"Also, developers have had 360 dev kits for much longer, and Microsoft's kit is really nice and easy to work with. Most multi-platform games will have been developed primarily on the 360 and ported over to the PS3, and unless Sony improves their dev environment, it'll stay that way."
~Again, where do you get this information? have you WORKED with the 360 dev kit? How about the PS3 dev-kit? So how do you know which is easier? Usually more difficult languages are more customizable, more flexibility, and in the end much more rewarding. Compare VB.NET to C++. VB is *WAY* easier, but it sucks in terms of power.
And again, with "porting". A different team inside the company will program the game for different consoles. They don't all just use the Xbox this gen to code for, then adapt it to the PS2/GC. They have three seperate teams creating the same game meeting the same criteria for each platform. They use the same formulas and what not, but entirely different scripts. Perfect example that comes to mind, try Enter the Matrix on the PS2, Xbox, and GC. GC has really weird crash bugs where code is shown and it locks up. The PS2 has overlapping audio tracks, and the Xbox really doesn't have either of those problems. Thats because each team coded in different bugs.
Or the easiest way to check, just compare the credits of the same game on two different platforms. The director / composer / producer and shit will be the same, but programming and QA teams will be different.

I make PS3 money, but I didn't get to this salary by making stupid decisions.
Chris sux @ Aug 28th 2006 3:38PM
PS3 may let you get online for free, but the servers will be run by the companies that make the games. You will be charged for each game you want to play online. Much like Final Fantasy XI, which is 13 bucks a month.
You can get a Live account for 36 bucks, 3 bucks a month.
Christopher7xii @ Aug 28th 2006 3:45PM
"Much like Final Fantasy XI, which is 13 bucks a month."
That's just the case for MMO's... Other games are free online play (SOCOM, Twisted Metal, EA Sports games, Burnout, etc). Not sure if you're familiar with PC gaming at all, but ALL MMO's require a monthly membership cost (for server / bandwith upkeep costs)
Chris sux @ Aug 28th 2006 3:51PM
We'll see how the PS3 does it. The fact that they say their online will be free is a little alarming. They are losing 200 on each ps3, they are going to come back at some point and rape the people who bought a ps3 at some point. It is a business, they need to make money and right now they are losing it hand over fist.
Belcho @ Aug 28th 2006 3:58PM
I will be very suprised if PS3 game prices are $59.99. I expect them to be more than that.
Nemesis5297 @ Aug 28th 2006 4:07PM
Yeah, I have a printout of GameStop's Wii list (even though it says Dreamcast on top) and they have Super Monkey Ball listed at 59.99 If anyone thinks that these are final prices they have another thing coming to them. I garuntee a lot of PS3 titles will be more.

How do you know that PS3's online service is significantly better than 360s? As far as we know it could be a worse or even non existent online service. The system isn't even out yet!
Not uncommon for a fanboy to say stuff like that...
m4ndo @ Aug 28th 2006 4:10PM
did anyone ever think that when they said online will be free that they will simply follow a similar plan to the gold/silver plan? Maybe you get basic servicesfor free but they charge to play games online. If that is the case then they could technically say online is free but not online play.
DeadPlasmaCell @ Aug 28th 2006 4:10PM
I like how all these "Memos" have the nice little crumple effect on them. Ne who that's just a simple print out.. we used to do that all the time when I worked at GS. We'd fill a book with upcoming games and let the customers look through it and stuff.
DrJack @ Aug 28th 2006 4:11PM
To everyone who uses the free online argument:
Please take a business class. I'm not even going to debate how insane the idea of a good free Live like network really is.
This comes to an idea called "Time Value of Money". Put it very simply spending $400 once and $50 annually for 4 years is less money than spending $600 once. The $200 difference is money that you could invest therefore making money with it.
This is not to say your argument is false if Sony does offer a free online service (we won't argue value of one service to value of another) the PS3 will eventually have a total cost of ownership that is less than the 360's. However, even with moderatly low rates of interest earned on the money you would save in the initial expenditure, this would move the point where the PS3 becomes lower cost out a year or two.
Does anyone really think that they will not be playing the next next gen (or arguing over which system is better) in 5 to 6 years?
The argument is pointless from both sides. Please stop using this argument as it is flawed or if you feel you must point out that while someone pays for Live on their Xbox 720s that you will still be playing your PS3 online for free at least add simple freshman business logic to your argument. We will all be better off for it.

Where's GRAN Turismo HD, and errrrrrrr.. KILLZONE 2??
Infil @ Aug 28th 2006 5:06PM
I will love to look at FAQs for Genji 2 after its release. All the jokes about real-time weapon change, giant enemy crabs, and attack weak points for massive damage. Even if it ends up being an above-average game, it will be great.
Also, I have several friends who are working for EA right now, porting X360 games over to the PS3, and they all absolutely *detest* the architecture, saying it is the most awkward and impossible thing to work with. The OS can simply take control of a few of the cores at will, and the parallel processing is very difficult to take advantage of (and if you can't take advantage of it, Cell's "power" is drastically reduced). There were other details that involved the quality of the GPUs and such, but I don't remember them accurately enough, so I won't mention them in case someone is itching to jump on it.
He did say that games made for the PS3 may *eventually* start to look *slightly* better than X360... but only if the game is an exclusive (or designed from the ground-up for PS3). I'm not sure how many ports or cross-platform games really will have that in the future; I'd be willing to wager not very many. He said that for any port, the X360 version will always look better, because the PS3 really is that difficult to develop for.
This comes from a good friend of mine inside EA, so take it how you will. But not all developers are super excited about the PS3's architecture.
(this is in response to the post above that says, exclusives aside, PS3 will succeed more due to better graphics; it won't be true to nearly the same extent you think, if it's even true at all)
ninja @ Aug 28th 2006 5:38PM
Of the exclusives listed here, I have to say the only ones that make me think "$600 isn't so bad" are Lair, Warhawk & Resistance. Untold Legends looks nice, but still have a sour taste in my mouth from the PSP version. It needs better RPG elements.
At least there is still more on the way; MGS4 especially.
Though, anyone not concerned about the HDMI port, only has to think "$500 for these exclusives, is it really worth that much?"
Going to need a stronger list of exlusives to get more non-sony fanboys to buy a $500 or $600 system tho.
bloodomen13 @ Aug 28th 2006 5:49PM
And Gamestop's list is the end-all-be-all of release dates and prices?
Where's the fine print stating "pricing and availability may vary due to publisher".
No dates or pricing has been officially announced. Heck, Best Buy lists Madden 07 as being released on 11/16... they also list Wii games coming out on 11/3. Guess we can count on those dates as well then.
