well i think its a good list as far as Launch titles... but be serious here people what system launch (other than the Wii probably, i dunno haven't seen a final list) Has been all that great?

Even the 360 had a lame launch and i didn't buy a game for the system till February... at least there's at least 2 games ont hat list that I look forward too Which aint bad for me i guess... Lair and Resistance not bad... hopefully i'll play those a bit more than the 360's launch titles... HOPEFULLY..

It doesn't even really matter if you guys like the launch lineup or think that the console is too expensive at launch. The fact of the matter is that the console will sell out immediately and will be difficult to get until March 2007 at which point the second wave of titles will be hitting the shelves. We can argue about price, but that changes as the console matures and if Sony brings great titles to the system people will buy it as the price drops.

On another note, has anyone thought about the fact that Nintendo isn't trying to keep up graphically because all their franchise games don't translate into more realistic graphics. For instance, would Mario/Donkey Kong/Zelda/Pokemon make better games if their characters were more human? I don't think so. I could definitely see Metroid taking advantage of the improved graphics, but the others would lose their appeal. I don't expect Nintendo to successfully carry over their current franchises as the market demands more human behaviors and attributes in their games. I still think the Wii will sell well but playing the same franchises with new controls may not be enough for most consumers.

i swear. if the 360 had that launch line-up back in 2005, a lot of you people would have been creaming your pants. but since it's Sony, "OMFG!THOSEGAMESRTEHSUXXORS!" or some other such retarted internet speak.

out of that entire list, there are 11 games that interest me.

For 2006:
*-Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom (i played it at E3 this year, and it was fun. and i also like hack n' slash dungeon crawlers)
*-Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (i tested the original X Men Legends for Activision back in the day, so i like that type of game. i also saw a presentation of it at E3, and it looked pretty neat)
*-Rainbow Six: Vegas
*-Resistance: Fall of Man (i also played this at E3 and it was a lot of fun. though it was only the multiplayer death match. the single player story looks intriguing)
*-Lair
*-Warhawk (also played at E3 and it was really fun and the controls were surprisingly responsive.)

For 2007:
*-Stranglehold
*-Heavenly Sword (played at E3. this game kicks ass. easily the best of the PS3 bunch i played)
*-Assassin's Creed (this will be the consoles first killer app. my eyes tear up when i think about it)
*-Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway
*-Virtua Fighter 5

out of that 11, 7 are exclusive to the console. my personal criteria is that a console have at least 5 exclusives before i purchase it. the PS3 passes that criteria, meaning it's a no brainer purchase. and then to think i'll have DMC4, RE5, Final Fantasy XIII, and MGS4 to play in the future just seals the deal.

the PS2 had an atrocious launch. judging from this list (if it is indeed true), the PS3 promises to have one of the best launch lineups in gaming history. as for multiplatform titles, i always just choose which console the game "feels" better on (there are certain games that are more comfortable to play on my X Box, and some for the PS2). i prefer the PS2 because i love the controller, and the PS3 controller feels really good also, so i'm sure the bulk of my multi-platform titles will be on the PS3.

my choice of buying a PS3 over other consoles (for now. i'll own all 3 at some point), has nothing to do with tech specs and graphics (though i do enjoy pretty visuals: after all, gaming is a visual medium, much like comic books and films, so the graphics should match the gameplay and complement it, like a marriage), but with the simple fact that the PS1 and PS2 have not let me down in terms of my game playing experiences.

really, who of the older generation can forget the first time that dog jumped through the window in Resident Evil, or facing down that T-Rex in Tomb Raider, or the sheer awesomeness of battling Liquid Snake atop the smoking carcass of Metal Gear Rex? after the NES and SNES, some, if not most, of my favorite gaming moments have been on Playstation consoles (the first time you realized the scope of GTA3, or the realization that MGS2 was actual real time graphics).

and from a smart consumer standpoint, Sony doesn't just abandon it's consoles when the new tech comes out. the PS2 is still getting some major love well into next year and probably beyond, whereas my GameCube and X Box are practically dead consoles. they'll be collecting dust, while i'm getting blown away by FFXII, Rogue Galaxy, Okami, God of War 2, and Destroy All Humans 2.

also, i don't play games online, as there are a lot of douchebags that kill the experience. so, outside of downloading game demos and games, the PS3 online service, and X Box Live hold no interest for me.

i've been planning on getting an HD TV for a while now, so the Blu Ray functionality of the PS3 appeals to me for movies, and the fact that games will indeed one day utilize that space (Gears of War is rumored to be on multiple discs, so yes, 9 gigs just isn't enough, and people said back before the PS2 launched that "DVD isn't necessary for games! we don't *WANT* DVD!" we see how that turned out, didnt' we?).

for me (and i'm sure numerous others), the PS3 is a good purchase, for quality entertainment *and* longevity. i'm not going to deny myself the joy of playing 360 and Wii games either, but the PS3 is my first stop in Next Gen land.

i'm a *GAMER*. PSWii60 all the way.

DBX00: Just because you can render realistic humans doesn't mean all games need realistic humans. Cartoony characters are stylized, expressive, and endearing. Meanwhile, many of the "realistic humans" that are appearing in games now are dull and unexpressive, and some are deep in the "uncanny valley" (their appearance and movements aren't quite right, making them look zombie-like).

Also, cartoony characters could certainly use the 360 and PS3's graphic power. Rachet, Sonic, Conker or Klonoa would look amazing if rendered with fur like in the movie "Over the Hedge"! (Unfortunately, Sonic looks like a plastic toy in the 360/PS3 Sonic game.) Even if you don't use the power on the characters, you can still use the power to add more stuff to their worlds.

actuallyc hris everything i've checked, where as i'm sure one can find it cheaper, most prices for XBL (including on the service itself) 12 months is 49.99.

that seems to be the general median...where are you getting 36 for 13 months? I'd like to get that deal myself for my 360 =)

and as for no one caring what games other people want... if that was the case we wouldn't be here arguing over the launch list now would we be? If no one cared what others thought of something... there'd be no comments on this blog! =)

They could very well be priced above $60. When stores get game lists, they tentatively price the games based on the current "standard" which seems to be $60. ...except Nintendo said they're only going to be $50 and SONY says they will be $70 or more, perhaps. Don't be surprised if prices change. I saw a GameStop list once that has Nintendo games at $60, even though it won't happen.

this list seems real suspect to me. wasn't Motorstorm confirmed at E3 to be out of the launch window along with Heavenly Sword? and I'm fairly sure Lair isn't far enough along to make the launch, either, but I could definitely be wrong about that. the main issue that makes me believe this is faked, though, is that I worked at a video game store around the 360 launch and whenever we got release date lists like this, the pricier collector's edition titles would be listed directly alongside the regular versions. this list has NO collector's edition titles on it, and NOTHING listed at any non-59.99 price point. something about that just seems super fishy.

if it isn't faked, then still, retail stores like to guess at prices before they're officially revealed to them. and seeing as GameStop hasn't taken preorders for the console yet because Sony won't tip their hands concerning allocation, I wouldn't count on Sony having shared the pricing structure, necessarily. these might just be best guess prices. although the lack of collector's edition SKUs is still a mystery to me.

haha this list is the awesome, seriously. if it's true, February 05, 2007 is going to be hot. that would qualify as the best day in the history of videogames. of course, dates that far off are always just speculation, and it doesn't behoove Sony to clump all those AAA titles into one day, but man, if they _did_.

~That block of text just goes to show you're an actual gamer, and not just in with the trends. I play good games on whatever system I can (whether it PSP, DS, 360, PS2, or SNES), and I have a blast doing it.

I also second the notion of console online gaming sucking. PC seems to have a more mature audience (Aside from World of Warcraft), and generally I avoid Live because of the crowd that ran with Halo2.

So to ask, where does gamereports.com ever claim this to be an "internal gamestop memo" all I saw on their page was the scans from the very same printouts I see whenever i go into a local gamestop.

Not only is this not news, since this information is easily availible at any gamestop, and i'd assume EB, it's also very badly misreported by your claims that this is something it's not.

Secondly, if you took a few more seconds to do some research, you'd find out that "gasp" the web page for gamestop has the same information. Oh my god, the secret is out it's on their INTERNAL WEB PAGE!

Augh, feck. Don't remind me of my experience with X-Box Live and Halo 2.

Sorry, but having a 12 year old kid scream "AW MAN I SO TOTALLY OWNED YOUR ASS" into my ear isn't my idea of a good time.

Infil....You gota understand that what your saying is only your opinion..ok.. I have read on IGN from the developers of full auto 2 (which is an exclusive) that the PS3 was actually pretty easy to devlope for........ALso when they first announced that they were making full auto 2 as an exclusive, they said next gen starts now...meaning on the ps3, not the 360. Basically, until the system comes out and everybody has had a chance to play some of these titles, nobody is correct (exactly) about what their saying !! Simply put

Yeah, I really don't trust those lists. I myself work at Blockbuster, and according to our systems, Oblivion is listed under PS3 as a launch title (wtf). PSP games are listed under dreamcast, and pretty much everything is listed under nintendo. Oh, and on our computers, the wii is still called the revolution, not to mention no games listed on it.

I really dont think EBgames or GameStop, or any rental/retail place gives out all the inside info. It's proven unreliable and leaks, so don't expect any real huge announcements from them, only rumors. They just aren't that trusted.

Yeesh, I remember a PS3 "FINAL!" design posted up at a local one with the projector-type design. They're kept in the dark just like we are, that list I just don't trust.

I'll typically make the effort to read all the posts... but I just don't have it in me anymore, so let me just say this.

The playstation 2 was harder to develop for, and it was a lesser machine to the xbox.
Multi-platform games looked better on the xbox.

So playstation 3 games will, in turn, look better than the xbox360, right?

Ehhh. maybe. Some long developed exclusives (like MGS) will probebly look better... but not knock your socks off better (imo, I'm still waiting to see gameplay. *cough* killzone2 *cough*).
But unfortunately, the playstation is AGAIN the most difficult system to work with. Will the devs take the extra effort to utilize the cell for uber goodness? Maybe some, but not many, or alteast not the majority.

Carmack (and others) have praised the 360 for its power+dev tools, something that the ps3 simply cannot equal. Many industry experts say the cell is simply not a gaming chip. It's a video decoder/processing chip. (not the same thing as gaming, btw).

So if the xbox brand continues to gain traction (which it will), and it will be easier (ie, cost less) to develop for the platform and still make great looking, innovative games... where do you think the dev's will go? I know first hand that microsoft BUSTS their balls to accomodate dev teams. I don't know that we can say the same thing about sony.
Just remember one thing about business, kiddos.
ROI.

Just a thought.

But teph its neither system is "easy" to develop for... if they were why'd we get the $10 increase in most video games cost to cover "development of next gen titles".

But i would agree the 360 is probably easier to develop for due to the uniform code or something of that nature compared to the original xbox and PC architecture where as the PS3 is all new hardware so there WILL be a learning curve... but if everything was always easy, we'd never get anything new.

Also we always hear that PS3 was hard to develop for but so was the PS2 and that didn't seem to effect much, sure xbox looked better because the hardware was stronger... but only marginally and over the course of its lifespan the longer devs got to work on the system, the more amazing games looked on PS2.

So i guess the hard to develop for thing in the end really isn't all that big a deal , at least later on anyway once devs have more experience under their belts.
