Rumor: PS3 launching in black only?
German publication Hartwire claims that Sony has only confirmed black PS3s at launch this fall, at least in Europe. This comes from last week's German Games Convention. The site also states that both white and silver editions will be available in the future, though Sony didn't specify when or if the same will be true for the console's November 17 US launch. It should be noted, however, that only black models are currently displayed at PS3's official North American site.
It is also believed that when all three colors are available, Sony will launch a promotional billboard campaign of a silver woman slapping a white woman while a black woman takes photos. (Snark mojo inspired by Evil Avatar commenter, Kamalot.)

Makes sense. To have 2 modles, and 3 different colors at launch would just be pure insanity. The less to choose from the better.

If it's anything like the 360 launch, many people won't get the premium system that they'll want. Add a choice of colors to the mix, and in the rush to get a system, no one would get the one they want.

For once I think I can appreciate the 360's faceplate feature...although full case-plastics kits in your favorite colors/patterns would be ideal.
Aside from the added confusion, what is wrong with shipping ONE hardware model and then getting a chance to CHOOSE which drive you wanted. (the 'core system' could come with a 20GB HD "credit" that could then either be used to snag a 20GB drive or pay the 'upgrade fee' to go to the larger drive. Sales people LOVE upsell situations like this! ;)

Actually this was confirmed right around E3 time. Only the black PS3 will be available at launch.
At first the silver and white were looking really nice to me. But then now we've got a new HDTV and basically everything except the 360 is black in the entertainment center, so I definitely want the black PS3 now.

ok, so if the above picture isn't really correct anymore, because the black one is either cheap-chromed out with the shiny lettering or (seems to me) matte black for the $500 tard pack, I wonder what differences they'll include on the two SKUs for the white and silver ones. a matte white without cheap chrome letters would look real nice next to my 360. or will the chromed-out model only be for the black one, or maybe only at launch?

Yeah, because insulting people is always the best way to get your point across, and the respect you deserve.
On topic, this is probably a good thing. Retailers would be reluctant to make shelf space for 6 seperate versions of the same console. I know they would sell during launch, but a lot of retailers don't have that kind of shelf space they can cut into.

For the record, I plan on heating my house this winter playing MGS4...and exorcising only when a Wii game requires it. The winter regiment of Hot Pockets, Rumple Minze/hot chocolate mix, and Gamefly coupled with the launch of two awesome consoles makes for a nice end of year!

The news is preading Sony has lowered the GPU/GPU memory freuency with 10%.
So tomorrow Sony will have to pay again some farmers that will go around every Comment Section on the web to post positive comment and to criticize that website for bringing only bad PS3 news.

What is the percentage of consoles that have launched in multiple color schemes for the buyers' aesthetic pleasure? I'm sure it has to be low...

Sony announced they were only going to ship black PS3s at, I believe, E3. It's been known for a while now. They will eventually release the Silver and White consoles.

um lets see, WHO CARES!!!!!!!!!!!! its a damn game console who cares what color it is as long as it delivers what they say it will. Im more worried about the grapics and game quality then the freakin color or the console
