Well, I'm glad that Capcom actually gave the 360 a chance... which is more than can actually be said about their xbox1 entires (dinocrisis, anyone?).

Still... DMC... Monster Hunter?

Sony can keep those entries :p

Good news! I hope these sort of sales continue as it will surely make companies think twice about going to the PS3. Does anyone know if this investment from Capcom is making a profit?

Jedite i think the only thing that will make a company "pass" on PS3 is dismal sales, otherwise... why shut off an avenue to make money? Doesn't make much sense does it?

In the end it all comes down to, where will the company make the most money, if its multiplat, they'll dot hat unless MS/Sony/Ninty throw tons of money their way.

Plus without the other 2 being out right now, its hard to say where the money is as 2 of the 3 dont have their systems out to compare to MS's 5-6mil.

The demo definitely had a lot to do with this high number of sales. It was a really fun demo.

Comments about strong worldwide support from Capcom for the Xbox 360 due to its excellent worldwide sales and the excellent worldwide sales of Capcom games released for the Xbox 360 are the reason why Capcom has decided to support the Xbox 360 more than any other system. Capcom is offering so much worldwide support for the Xbox 360 that Capcom of America is actually pressuring Capcom of Japan to support a program where there will never again be a game released exclusively on the Playstation 3; all games developed for the Playstation 3 will be multiplatform. You can read about that here: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3658&Itemid=2

To answer two questions:

1. Dead Rising for the Xbox 360 is a brand new intellectual property that has continually been sold out ever since its release. Over 500,000 copies have now been shipped to North America in just two-weeks, and that is the only territory that it has been released in. Capcom now expects Dead Rising to sell over ONE-MILLION copies worldwide after it has been released in Europe and the rest of the world. This means that if you compare the sales figures of Resident Evil 4 for the Playstation 2 and Gamecube to Dead Rising for the Xbox 360, you will see that Dead Rising outsold those games!!!

2. The fact that a brand-new intellectual property like Dead Rising would outsell one of Capcom’s classics that they think highly of proves that Microsoft was right all along when it comes to the importance of new game series like Dead Rising, Gears of War, Crackdown, Saints Row, Enchanted Arms, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Lost Planet, Alan Wake, Viva Piñata, Mass Effect, Shadowrun, and so many others. No doubt about it, Dead Rising has made profits. That is what Capcom of America is saying when they are pressuring Capcom of Japan to support the Xbox 360 with more games being released exclusively for the Xbox 360. When a game is released exclusively for the Xbox 360, Microsoft doesn’t charge third-party royalty or licensing fees. Sony charges third-party licensing fees whether a game is exclusive or not. This is the reason why Capcom of America is saying that Capcom of Japan should have a policy where games can be released exclusively for the Xbox 360, but all Playstation 3 games must be multiplatform. You can read about that here: http://www.next-gen.biz/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=3658&Itemid=2

Plus Xbox 360 games are fundamentally less expensive to develop than Playstation 3 games, simply because the Xbox 360 is a much more developer friendly environment that is based on the DirectX programming language that PC’s use. The Playstation 3 is very difficult to develop games for, because Sony was forced to alter its original design when they saw how much superior the Xbox 360 was with its Unified Shader GPU.

The original Playstation 3 was not supposed to have a GPU, but when Sony saw the superiority of the Xbox 360, they were forced to add one. This resulted in a much more expensive Playstation 3 that is also much more difficult to develop games for. Time is money, and Playstation 3 games take a lot longer to develop. This is the reason why new game series like Dead Rising and Lost Planet are released for the Xbox 360, but the Playstation 3 suffers from “Sequalitas.”…Ridge Racer 7, anyone??? Who wants to play the same old game like that???

Sony should have completely scrapped the design of the Playstation 3 and started over. Instead, they made the same mistake that Sega did when Sega saw how much superior the Playstation was to the Saturn. Sega just added more processors that weren’t custom to the original hardware design, and they didn’t work well together…This is nearly identical to what Sony did when they saw the superiority of the Xbox 360 with all of the custom technology that Microsoft engineers developed for it.

The thing that is really bad for Sony is the fact that the Xbox 360 Unified Shader GPU is a full generation ahead of PC gaming; there are currently no PC graphics cards that use Unified Shader technology, and there won’t be until late 2006 or early 2007, because that is when Windows Vista will be released. Windows Vista is based on the new Unified Shader design, and when it becomes the PC gaming standard in about two years, it will be even easier and less expensive to port PC games to the Xbox 360, but even more difficult and more expensive to port PC games to the Playstation 3. Playstation 3 uses a GPU that is based on Non-Unified Shader technology from Nvidia that is over four-years old!!! And to make matters worse, the Playstation 3 GPU was recently downgraded by a level of 10% performance!!!

Anyways, Dead Rising is a SUPER FUN game!!! You can do things like unlock a Mega Man suit, and then blast over 20 zombies at a time. You can also walk up to them and rip their intestines out thanks to Mega Man’s strength. Capcom really made a winner with Dead Rising, and it is the sort of game that makes me very happy I have an Xbox 360!!!

As neat as that sounds Zoran.. isn't it a little shortsided to think that Capcom would switch over to 360 and start developing exclusive titles when they can do everything multiplatform and make more money that way?

Granted 360 is the only kid on the block right now, it would seem rather dumb in the future to release something solely for one system, i mean i dont think this gen will be like last gen where most exclusives were on PS2 simply because of the 70mil console gap ya know?

The gap this time around will be really slim and thus developers will be hard pressed unless they're first party to solely rely on one console for exclusives. If anything they'd do multiplatforms first and then give each console an exclusive in order IF they decided to do that.

JJ: While Zoran's synopsis may be optomistic, I don't think it's beyond the realm of possability.

The simple fact is that producing a multiplatform game is a huge investment, and while theoretically you have an incredibly broad audience, that cuts directly into the funds of the game, and therefore time that could be spent actually on tweaking are spent making sure the game works on all platforms. I don't know about you, but I tend to be a little skeptical about multiplatform games, which is why obviously microsoft wants exclussives.

Additionally, I've been under the impression that Capcom has been in the Red for a while, which is supported by their consistant 'sequelitis' as zoran put it. The bottom line is that Capcom did pretty damn good with Dead Rising, and what a bottom line it is. Additionally, Capcom has always had an interest in catering to the American Audience, and on that note, the PS3 has become something of a risk (and if there's one thing that japanese buisiness-men hate, it's risk). The 360 has proven that it's an excellent way to break into the american market. Theoretically, Capcom American can pretty much do it's own thing, and Capcom Japan can cator to the japanese audience (via ps3/Wii).

Point is that, i'm not saying that Capcom will start habitually publishing exclussives for the 360, but it's certainly in the realm of possibility. The fact that developing exclussives is more cost effective, and the fact that the American and Japanese dem look for completely different things in their games, and coupled with Dead Rising (and SFII live) immense success... the thought of capcom exclussive 360 titles doesn't seem too outlandish.
