Play Dead Rising as Mega Man

Here's yet another great reason to keep on keepin' on in Capcom's major 360 seller Dead Rising. After you've killed 60,000 zombies, the Mega Man suit becomes fully available, allowing players not only the ability to look absolutely awesome but also take advantage of the blue guy's Mega Buster.
Check out the video here. Now, excuse us while we get back to racking up a massive amount of zombie kills.

no you kill 56800 to get the mega blaster. then you have to kill at least 10 psychopaths. to get the tights. then you go to the movie theater to get the helmet.
Justin @ Aug 30th 2006 1:36PM
What is this, mega man 1? Where's the charge shot?
Zertoss @ Aug 30th 2006 1:40PM
It's 53,594 zombies for the Buster, 10 psychopaths for the Mega Man tights, and get the true ending without being knocked out for the boots. Getting these achievements unlocks those items.
Robotic House Plant @ Aug 30th 2006 1:46PM
You have to put in some serious time with the game to get that far, but it's a lot of fun. Right now I'm chasing some of the achievements I missed along the way.
whalemenace @ Aug 30th 2006 1:46PM
zertoss be right. btw what does "not being knocked out" mean? is that not dieing?
PsyClerk @ Aug 30th 2006 1:54PM
The rain-coat psychos and the special forces guys have the ability to knock you out rather than outright kill you. You can escape from their clutches if you're captured, but it can be tough (especially Special Forces). If you avoid capture by either group, that counts for the "don't be knocked out" part.
Jacob @ Aug 30th 2006 1:56PM
Wow. It actually looks like the US Mega Man 2 box art...
whalemenace @ Aug 30th 2006 2:07PM
Oh thanks PsyClerk. Yeah I was thinking it might be something like that. I was never knocked out by the SF but the raincoat guys did get me. I escaped though. But I didn't go see isabela right at the end so I got ending C anyways.
BklynKid @ Aug 30th 2006 2:29PM
Actually the tid-bit is not entirely accurate.
The Real Mega Blaster (as the game calls it) is unlocked after the 54k kills.
The megaman boots and suit are unlocked with some other achievements that I forgot and the helmet is available to anyone in the movie theatre gift shop.
So bleh!
BklynKid @ Aug 30th 2006 2:32PM
Well that shows me to read the other comments before replying...
#5, not being knocked out refers to...
***SPOILER***
... not being knocked out by the special forces, i.e. not getting to the helicopter mini-game.
BPM? @ Aug 30th 2006 2:40PM
That's a Megaman X costume, not Megaman. ;)
teknomusik @ Aug 30th 2006 5:34PM
I got the Zombie Genocider achievement... but I can't find the mega buster. Where do I get it?
Art Guy @ Aug 30th 2006 3:00PM
Robotic House Plant - You can get everything you need with just two playthroughs, thats what I did. My first time I got the A ending and killed 10 of the psychopaths. My second pass was spent in the underground tunnels creating lots and lots of road kill.
I only wish once you collected all the parts it would have unlocked some other attribute, like double jump or spread shot. Saving that for Dead Rising 2 I guess. :)
noob @ Aug 30th 2006 2:51PM
all I know is that I have the three books that give you 27x small chain saw.
its the cheapest thing in the game.
its so rigged and so fun.
jusmailuck @ Aug 30th 2006 2:56PM
Indeed it is, BPMΩ...
The little red head crystal is a dead give away for the X series.
Anyway... I'm thinking this is a whole lotta work for a game I considered renting a while back.
You guys think I can manage it if I simply rent it for a while?
peeweejd @ Aug 30th 2006 3:13PM
the game lasts for 72 hours of game time. i think its about 6 -7 hours of "real" time. If you google "zombie genocide route" you should be able to find an efficient way to kill zombies. I have done it 4 times and it takes about 2-3 hours of driving in tunnels and killing zombies to get the appropriate number of kills for the blaster. you then have to finish the 72 hour game and save to get the mega blaster.
then when you play through the game with the blaster you can easily destroy every boss.
Ian @ Aug 30th 2006 5:00PM
Now I might half to get Dead Rising, as if there wasn't already reason enough ;)
Raymond Devine @ Aug 30th 2006 10:13PM
As 11 and 13 stated, that is NOT a Megaman costume, but a Megaman X costume. I was honestly surprised at the mistake. I expect more out of Joystiq.
Nick @ Aug 30th 2006 5:56PM
Is this 60k total or 60k in one session?
BPM? @ Aug 30th 2006 4:51PM
jusmailuck, not only does the helmet design a tipoff for which Megaman it is, but the chest armor, too. X has it, Megaman doesn't.
I am a bit of a Megaman fan, so I notice these things easily. :D
TiaMaster @ Aug 30th 2006 5:03PM
Weird that you can kill so many zombies when the entire population of the town is only like 47 thou.
rTwelve @ Aug 30th 2006 5:00PM
Oh shush, BPM. :P
I guess I have to get this game. A new thing discovered every week...
Bpops @ Aug 30th 2006 5:34PM
i agree with rTwelve..
This joystiq article might just be the last straw for me. I'm tired of hearing all the cool stuff in this game. I'm tired of just playing the demo. Walmart run tonight me thinks.
007craft @ Aug 30th 2006 7:36PM
its not that cool guys. I rented the game and unlocked all that stuff, + got almost every achievment.
You can do everything you need and want to do in 1 rental in dead rising. No multiplayer = no purchase. Lets hope dead rising 2 comes out, has tons more too it (less clothing shops, more items) and features multiplayer (co-op and multiplay). Then it will recieve a purchase form me.
Art Guy @ Aug 30th 2006 7:45PM
teknomusik - It will be in the room with Otis. BUT, you have to beat the game first. It has 300 shots that kill with one hit.
Nick - One session.
Fist Of Konshu @ Aug 31st 2006 12:58AM
Last time I checked Megaman X was still Megaman. Megaman in refering to character from the series. So that was not a typo just a generalization.
Play Dead Rising as Mega Man in the Mega Man X Suit
That is a bit much for the title.
PhrawzT @ Aug 31st 2006 9:58AM
The population of the town is 53,594. It is mentioned in the opening cinema.

Hey, what do the boots do again, does it make every item unbreakable? and give you infinate ammo? and what do the tights do, i already have the blaster and im about to get the boots.
Damian @ Oct 23rd 2006 7:43PM
Hi I got nearly full mega man took me ages to get the boots tho...do the boots stop things breaking like wepons
I got them and things are still breaking.
Twonumbthumbs @ Oct 25th 2006 2:44PM
Dead Rising is a must own. Great replayablity.
