Assassin's Creed confirmed for PC, not Xbox 360
Following a PC Gamer report that Assassin's Creed is PC bound, Ubisoft has finally confirmed, "Assassin's Creed PC will indeed see the light some day." Still, the publisher remains vague about when that day will come and whether or not an Xbox 360 version will also be released. The news puts an end to the mystery of Assassin's Creed's exclusivity, though Sony fanboys can still brag to their counterparts that they'll be playing first. Take that!

it'll come to 360. then mgs4 will, then ff13 will. it's only a matter of time. the development teams and publishers behind these "blockbuster" franchises have simply invested *too much money* into them to sell to ps3's meager 2 million-user installed base in march of next year. that's just not enough opportunity for them to make money back. 360's ~10 million-user installed base will make for a nice opportunity to recover their investments.

yes time exclusivity is a big deal as far as sales...
but whatever can't wait for the game will play it on whatever system its on first..

I'm sure it will *only* arrive on the PS3 and PC. The 360 has SOOO many problems from games that come to the PC porting over to the 360. Cmon guys...I think this pretty much confirms it will arrive on the 360.

I still count it as an exclusive because I really don't compare PCs to Consoles because...well...PCs are PCs and consoles are consoles.

See, that's why I am going to buy a PS3. Because I like those kinds of games, and the only way that you will see something of that calibur will be from a port. There are no games on the 360 that really have a story to tell, Japan seems to be the only country interested in a decent plot.

this title *is* coming to 360. sony can't pay enough to keep it exclusive... the developers of this and all of sony's other big 3rd party exclusives simply can't afford to keep it exclusive to ps3! they need to earn back their investments, and ps3 is a platform that won't be able to provide that service to developers for years to come. none of your ps3 killer apps will be exclusives; it's as simple as that.

+1 to Microsoft.
This was the only game that interested alot of people into buy a PS3, now its on the PC they will surely get it for that instead, since it will be much cheaper to buy and it will be about 10 times better anyway, mods and such.
It will probably be on Windows Vista, and it will attract more PC players into xbox live, $$$$$$ for Microsoft.
Bub @ Aug 31st 2006 3:42PM
I think it will come to 360 after being ported to the PC. Maybe it's easier to port to 360 from there, rather than from PS3. They may also want to see how popular the game is. If it's not, then they know not to waste extra development and money on another console version; though I think it will be a hit, and when they know that, they will assure it will be out for 360.

FF13 and MGS 4 are exclusive to PS3. Sony will make sure of it because those are big hits in Japan and the US. The Xbox 360 is also expensive to develop for. And Nintendo Wii development time is very long and is probally a bit more expensive to develop for. The 360 and Wii are no better in the development department... Just because Microsoft has shipped around 5-6 million consoles, doesnt mean their all being bought. Japan and the US are overflowing with 360's on the shelves(360 is doing terrible in Japan). The PS3's price won't stop it from selling. It's only a $100 more then a 360 and has much more in it.
Next time, try thinking logic rather then what YOU WANT to happen.
Wild Homes @ Aug 31st 2006 3:50PM
it would make sense that after the PC release, a 360 port would be inevitable, but who knows. and I suspect, as Ubisoft MUST be aware of the freaking clamor about this game-will-or-won't-a-360-appearance-make, that the game's publisher is intentionally milking the continued wave of discussion by not announcing a 360 version yes or no. it's definitely helping to maintain AC's status as a AAA title a long time out from release.
and to be honest, if I was a Sony fanboy I'd be gloating more over Lair than this title. Dragons > Assasins anyday, yo.

listen: what does "Sony will make sure of it" mean, exactly?
my whole point is that these developers can't afford NOT to make these titles multi-platform; AC included.
remember, these are games that cost millions upon millions to produce, publish, and distribute. how exactly do you believe that "Sony will make sure [that these titles stay exclusive]"? how would they go about doing so?
the only way to make them exclusive is to either:
a) recoup the devs losses in cold hard cash, making sure to outbid microsoft on the "port it to 360, pls" bid, or
b) put enough PS3s in people's homes for it to make sense as an exclusive and make sure the dev's have a good enough chance to recoup their investments through sales.
tell me how you believe sony intends on keeping these titles exclusive, please, because if i'm a developer, and my company just spent 190 million dollars making "my masterpiece", the best and most detailed game i've ever created, and all of a sudden i find that the platform for which it's being distributed can only offer me a *potential* clientbase of a 2 million user installed-base... am i going to be very happy about that? am i going to think, "well, if we spend another X million porting it to 360... hmm... they *do* have another 8 million consoles sold..." i'm thinking i'd port "my masterpiece" RIGHT on over, and make the cold hard cash that i deserve. after all, the CASH is the reason i MADE the game in the first place.

so what makes you say that, exactly? do you believe that square has some type of undying loyalty to sony that outweighs their desire to recoup their investment losses? think again.
squareenix is a company. a business. didn't it seem highly unlikely, say, 15 years ago, that you'd ever see a final fantasy game on a non-nintendo platform? well, i think we all know how that turned out.
see, nintendo's platform just wasn't desirable anymore. it wasn't able to provide enough revenue for square (at the time, now squareenix), so they started looking into other options. more profitable options. the playstation, at that time, was the most viable option.

Superfan -
I'm not sure if you are aware of this, but all the big 3 console makers "pay" for thier exclusives (this could be in cash, or a cut of royalties or any number of other deals). They have been doing this for years. Recently, a lot of deals are cut for a temporary exclusive (what I expect assassins creed is). Most games will come out for all 3 systems, but I am willing to bet that some are too lucrative for the console makers to let go. Metal gear solid is one of those, I would expect Sony is paying a lot of money to keep that exclusive, because it is a system seller. Microsoft recently signed a deal to make the 360 the only next gen console to have a soccer game this year, I'm sure they paid a lot of money for it, but will make it back with the amount of systems they sell to people who need the latest soccer on the newest machine.
I'm not sure why I responded to this, as I realise you are nothing more than a troll, I guess I'm just bored at work.

You know, I've read every comment posted and I have to ask you one simple question: What did you think would happen when you dared speak negatively amongst a bunch of pro-Sony sheep? Surely you didn't think you'd get a warm reception. However, so you know, there are alot of people who see things the way you do. I, for one, agree with you. AC will come to 360. A game like this takes millions to make.
Here's the heartbreaker for blind Sony loyalists: Sony doesn't owe you jack. They don't care about you, they never have, they never will. And developers don't either. You think a company like Ubisoft would align themselves to a newly released console, lose millions..maybe billions, who knows..just so you can go around bragging with the other ten year old little Johnny's of the world that "I have AC..you don't! HAHA! 360 suxxorz!"? Absolutely not. Did you people learn nothing from when Capcom shot you the finger and ported Resident Evil right off the Playstation console all-together? Now, quick question: How many of you fanboys said THAT would never happen? Get a life people. Companies could give two cents about what you think. Money talks. When you grow up, you'll understand that.

oh, i'm a troll? nice. you don't come here often, do you?
so you think sony is going to shell out cash to keep the exclusives? i just don't think they will come to an agreement there. if you'd have read my post, you'd have noticed that i said:
"the only way to make them exclusive is to either:
a) recoup the devs losses in cold hard cash, making sure to outbid microsoft on the "port it to 360, pls" bid, or
b) put enough PS3s in people's homes for it to make sense as an exclusive and make sure the dev's have a good enough chance to recoup their investments through sales."
you're vying for option a). now, it's going to come down to one thing: how stupid is microsoft? do you think that microsoft is aware of the "pull" that an mgs4 or ff13 exclusive has? they can *easily* outbid sony for the cross-platform agreement. sony simply can't afford to outbid microsoft on this.
it just all seems too familiar (i'll quote my other post again, since apparently you didn't read it):

So, devs that spend tons of money on development of AA titles HAVE to port games over for a larger userbase? Simply to make more money? Sounds plausible. So... does that mean I get to play Dead Rising on my PS3 with Halo and Oblivion? Because those games cost a lot of money to make, surely they would port them over for more potential customers.
Also: even if they are just plain ports of games, the PS3 is a more capable system, so you're going to get more out of the PS3 version than the 360 version. Case in point: all of last gen and Fight night round 3.
If Assassin's creed does come out for the 360, it will look either the same, if not worse than the PS3 version. Other games will probably gain more features for the PS3. Even if it DOES come out for the 360, I'd still rather buy it on the PS3.
Lekko @ Aug 31st 2006 5:51PM
Oops, forgot to doubble check it before I posted it.
AAA not AA, and when I said last generation as an example, I meant xbox > ps2 versions. I bought more multiplatform releases on xbox because they looked and preformed better on the xbox. well, lekko,
i can't say that i'm certain Dead Rising will see a port, but it's very possible. see, the problem is, we're talking about opposites here.
Assassin's Creed is *starting* on ps3. ps3 has 0 consoles installed in the world. by xmas, they should have 2 million installed. 360 has 6 million, by xmas it should be roughly 8 or 9, maybe 10 million. you're looking at it backwards.
dead rising has a potential install-base of 6 million right now. porting that to PS3 is costly, and *may not* be worth porting over for an expansion of only another 2 million potential users.
once ps3 has a larger install base, it will be much more likely.
i still think, in the case of dead rising though, that it will see a ps3 port.
