Happy Castlevania metal rock out day
All right, we know it's one of the last Fridays of the summer and we should be happy that it's the end of the week and football is about to start and all that. But sometimes, despite all the happiness and joy that surrounds us, we just need to hear some moody, creepy, hard-rocking, gothic/metal/retro music mercilessly thrashed out on the guitar. Is that so wrong?Of course it isn't. With that in mind, continue reading for some YouTube video of a trio of awesome guitar players rocking out to the tunes of the Castlevania series.
Previously: Happy Zelda music day, Happy Zelda music day... again, Happy retro-techno music day

Sometimes? How about the only music that's actually worth listening to nowadays.

Props, Kyle. Quite the refreshing set of vids for the way my week's been going. Here's to Fridays, gaming, and three day weekends!

That first guy is pretty sick. I dunno what the hell the song is, but I enjoyed it nonetheless.
Naytan Del Taco @ Sep 1st 2006 1:39PM
Yeah, that first one was pretty good.

The first song is from Castlevania 3

For all those interested, google Dracula Battle: Perfect Collection, you can actually download the mp3's that the third Youtube nerfed.

Holy crap! The first one is housethegrate preforming his remix La Hora Es Tarde (from Circle of the Moon according to the ID3 tag)! I love that guy's guitar work!

Die Monster! You don't belong in this world!
It was not by my hand that I was once again given flesh! I was called here by humans who wish to pay me tribute!
Tribute!? You steal mens souls and make them your slaves!
Perhaps the same could be said of all religions!
Your words are as empty as your soul! Man-kind ill needs a savior such as you!
What is a man!? But a miserable little pile of secrets! But enough talk, have at you!

The first guy is jamming to the clock tower from C3, the game soundtrack so sick it required MORE CHIPS just to execute. He rocks.
PapaZeb @ Sep 1st 2006 3:14PM
Great pieces, loving the first guy's acoustic work.
However..not entirely sold on the third clip. I've got the Symphony of the Night soundtrack kicking about and it looks and sounds like a Milli Vanilli job. I really hate to be negative about such things, but are ya sure that's legit?

Too bad those "chips" never made it to the American version. If you haven't heard the original Akumajou Densetsu soundtrack coming out of a Famicom, you haven't lived ;)

Maybe we get Final Fantasy music next week?
A Gold Saucer video, and the opening bombing mission music would be nice!

I always was intrigued by the Castlevania audio disparity in quality.
On one hand, you have some of the best music to ever grace a video game. On the other hand you have some voice acting (I'm looking at you, SotN) that makes baby Jesus cry and gives the original Resident Evil a run for its money for pure craptitude.

djsyndrome is right, the Japanese version of C3 had much better music. Apparently, from what I heard, there were some chips in either the non-Japanese game or the systems that prevented the original music from playing, so they had to eliminate the audio channels from the external audio chips they used.
It's too bad, really. I would have much preferred that version 16 years ago... Nowadays people probably wouldn't give a fart..

wtf are you talking about Charles, it's the exact same guitar part. Maybe you shouldn't be so quick to insult when you have no idea what you're talking about. And yeah, where's your youtube video of YOU playing that song?
Lionel @ Sep 1st 2006 8:22PM
The first guy was pretty insane, especially the acoustic part. I'm not sure if anyone has ever listened to Ailsean's video game compositions, but his Simon;'s Quest song is awesome.
David @ Sep 2nd 2006 11:29AM
The second was pretty easy, and the third one sucked. He was out of tune on quite a few notes, and when playing along karoke style to a CD with another guy playing the same part in tune, urg.
The first was truly great though. Whoever transcribed it was the true genuis - if it was that guy, good on him.
Adam @ Sep 3rd 2006 7:01PM
The third clip would have sounded sooooo much better if it was just the awesome "Dracula Battle Perfect Selection" tune and not the guy pretending to play along. The Dracula Battle series really needs more love.
The first clip, however, was AWESOME. Can we get that guy to record an album? Seriously.
Charles @ Sep 5th 2006 8:31AM
@17 - Dan S.
I was pointing out how the song was better originally than with his playover.
But, give me a month of practice, and I'll upload me playing the organ part (which is considerably harder on that particular song) on my keyboard.
alfred gallo @ Sep 6th 2006 9:51AM
the first guy is pretty good if he would play like Django Reinhart he would be much better
s256 @ Sep 9th 2006 5:23AM
I want Bloody Tears!
The first and third were quite incredible though.. :D
