The zombie killer whale looked pretty cool.

They should make a game where you fight nothing but zombie animals. Like "Zoo of the Damned" of....something.

....Zombie Zoo?

The original PS2 Onechanbara was actually a 2100 yen game (roughly $19) that had an interesting gameplay system that required you basically dispatch your opponents with style a la Devil May Cry. Though not as elaborate as DMC, there are situations that require you to do certain things, such as wiping the sword off your katana as part of your combo (not literally wiping, but whipping the sword so all the blood splats on the floor a la some samurai animes) and triggering a really cool berzerk mode that is both an advantage and a disease that your character can obtain.

And of course, all this from Tamsoft, the guys who brought you Battle Arena Toshinden for the PS1!

Then again, Microsoft's definition of "budget" is $40 - and the game really was only worth $20.

Zombies, like Nazis, are the perfect enemy for video games. But zombies come in more veriety so you can never really get bored of them.

And hot chicks just make anything better. Especially if the hot chicks are capable of kicking ass instead of just standing around waiting to be saved.

Although it would be entirely possible for hot chicks to wear more realistic armor or clothing and still be hot, but I guess developers can't help themselves. And I can't bring myself to complain too loudly.

Miake - my guess is that it's just because Americans are too lazy to produce those games themselves. Of course, our moviemakers pick up the slack there.

And if hot chicks make everything better, how much more would the Dead or Alive series suck if they got rid of them?

If by chance anyone is thinking of ordering up the PS2 game, I'd recommend you not get THE Oneechanbara, but instead get its followup release THE Oneechamploo. THE Oneechamploo is essentially the same game, but with more stuff. Same levels, same bosses, etc. But it has more characters and more unlockable stuff and sells for the same price, so it's not a difficult choice to make. Also it adds a prompt when you approach a door whether to go through it or not rather than automatically taking you through it, which was a bit annoying in the first one especially in small rooms.

Assuming that the 360 game will be strongly similar to the PS2 game, here's what to expect: The game is repetitive, the music in it even moreso. An issue on the PS2, but probably won't be on the 360, is massive slowdown especially in later levels when you have hundreds of zombies everywhere. Given that I don't think I've seen Dead Rising slowdown, they can probably get the 360 Oneechanbara game to stay at full speed as well (though it includes MANY more zombies at once... more akin to 99 Nights than Dead Rising in enemy count). The game is bloody as hell and just as fun. You may not curl up with it for an 8 hour session, but to pick up and play for a couple of hours it is fantastic. It is a budget title but of exceptionally higher quality than any budget title I've seen from American studios. The animation is fantastic, and all of the graphics are detailed and well done.

I'm crossing my fingers and hoping this game isn't region locked when it is released in Japan, because I doubt we will ever see it in the USA. I don't even know if D2, the publisher, has distribution channels in the US.

Alright one problem with teh post:

# Endless host of defenseless zombies
# + tributaries of lumpy zombie blood
# + freshly harvested zombie sweetbreads
# + nearly naked babe wielding a katana

Is teh nearly naked chick with katana not a zombie? and if she is then isn't the first bullet point of defenseless zombies inaccurate?

It's completely pathetic ... yet, I still want to play it.

And speaking of "ultraviolent white chicks with bigs t*ts," as #8 mentioned ... my girlfriend is getting big boobs in 2 weeks :D Just thought I'd throw that in ... this seems like the appropriate thread.

The original japanese PS2 version of this game has been a top seller at the import sites for a while. Perhaps someone out there gives a flying screw about what consumers want? One shudders at the thought...

Oh, that's right, they'll probably charge $40 instead of $20 and wax their moustaches as the Microsoft train comes rumbling down the track at our wallets in distress which have been tied to the rail.

devi8i: No, the main character is not a zombie.

I do suppose calling the zombies defenseless is a bit of hyperbole. They don't put up much fight (their real strength is in overwhelming numbers) but they can attack you... so not entirely defenseless.

Actually, yes, D3 (not D2, but that was probably just a typo) has an American branch. They recently released Tomy's Naruto GCN game here (and the sequel will be out soon).

Thanks for the clarification OtakuCODE. But, then if they can attack wouldnt that be offensive.....so maybe they are in fact defensless against your attacks making the statement true then??? Ah...who cares, they are still zombies

Sure, it might not look like the BEST zombie game out there, but I'll probably be a decent way to kill an evening or two.

I mean, decent looking protagonist, zombies, and blood. Hell, I'd play it just for the zombies.

Anyone note the zombie Shamoo (screenshot #7)?

I say they should take this plan of action:

-Rename is "Undead or Alive"
-Have Team Ninja take over right and redo or modify it with better graphics and all
-More zombies and make the characters look like DoA characters
