This is not THE list, as that implies that it's the complete list. Rather, it's a list of 23 songs that will be on Guitar Hero II. That means there are gonna be at least seven more well-known songs to later be announced. Can't wait to see what they are.
OTAM @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:16PM
What a disappointment to me. The first Guitar Hero had songs that were big singles, like "Take me Out","You got another thing coming",and "iron man". Now it seems like they are just picking random tracks from these bands that only fans of the bands themselves would know.
They need to just stick with the "hits" so at least people know them. The only song I want on here is Misirlou.
LaughingMan @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:18PM
Tonight I'm gonna rock you/yes tonight I'm gonna rock you/tonight I'm gonna rock you/TOOO-NIIITE!!!
Great song. I would totally get this if they included the "We are Spinal Tap from the UK. You must be the USA" line. Classic. (but isn't every line from that flim)
Rhine @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:19PM
So many 80's bands give the 70's love. Who wouldn't want to rock out Achilles Last Stand like to see anyone play through all 10 minutes.
Abe Froman @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:21PM
The hits, OTAM?!?!? "Heart-Shaped Box" was on the top of the MTV charts for weeks. "Message In The Bottle" is one of the most well known Police songs.. "Crazy On You", "Strutter", and "Freebird" are classic rock staples. "Sweet Child O' Mine" is one of the most well known songs from the early '90s. There are plenty of "hits".
Monkeydog @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:21PM
Gosh, I don't like this list much...but like number one said, there are still more to be announced...so yay.
but...I'm so happy Crazy On You made it. :3
Brian @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:22PM
Come on Dragonforce!
BIGGEN @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:24PM
#2 you make no sense. those songs ARE hits from those bands. what the hell. sweet child o mine? heart shaped box? freebird? ALL those songs are hits that ANYONE over 15 should know. well, if you don't like it, don't buy it is all i gotta say.
Leper Messiah @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:30PM
Theyve got Avenged Sevenfold and Butthole Surfers and yet they have no Metallica or Iron Maiden?!
Youve gotta be kidding me, the final list better have some Master of Puppets or One and Prowler.
Dave @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:35PM
I'm gonna have to wait another game to hear a Pearl Jam track on this. It seems theres always grunge track on the games, last was audio slave. But come on if your gonna but grunge in a guitar game you have to put Pearl Jam. Mike McCready rules at guitar. I really wanted to play even flow. I play a version f Alive on Frets on Fire its awesome. I'm really really excited to play miserlou, and then war pigs sweet child of mine.
TehDestroyer @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:37PM
Also, Cheap Trick is supposed to be on the list. The article mentions them but forgets to put them on the list itself. As far as I know they are being included in the game.
Amir @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:37PM
Spinal Tap? Oh dear lordy. I might get a PS2 just to play Guitar Heroes 1 & 2.
Ahms @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:37PM
They have Alice in Chains! :D
I BELIEVE
THEM BONES ARE ME!
Ben @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:38PM
Nirvana
Alice in Chains
Stone Temple Pilots
I may get a PS2 just for this.
Jordan @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:42PM
LAMB OF GOD!!!
ALICE!!!
SABBATH!!!
RUSH!!!
Latocki @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:42PM
The Pulp fiction theme is gonna be intense. I went around and got a hold of all of these songs here, looks to be one hell of a game, There's alot of bands with a wide range of songs from those bands. They're not the number one well known songs nessisarily, but they're really awesome songs. Like alot of people have heard I wanna rock and roll all night by kiss, but kids today who get this game and play strutter are gonna be like, this kicks ass. As for everyone that's complaining that "their songs aren't in the game" or the songlist sucks, 2 things. Harmonix has promised at least 40 licensed tracks, this is just over 20, we still have another 14 songs to see. And the second thing is that the game is trying to expose you and have you listen to cool music you may have never heard before, like the first one did. There's alot of different music I've got now because i heard it from the first one, so quit your whining and try to expand your mind a little bit.
Bryan @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:42PM
Strutter all the way.
I do look forward to playing the opening to "crazy on you" as well.
Josh R. @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:44PM
@ #5 - Thank you for pointing that out.
And yeah, this is just 23 out of 40 or 50 songs (including the bonues tracks). There's probably five or so big names left in the bad, with Aerosmith, AC/DC, and Tool highly rumored to be on the game.
Co-Op on 46&2 would be seven shades of awesome.
nick @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:48PM
Corbis can get hardcore about their pics gettin' used. Just an FYI.
Daniel @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:50PM
Metallica would be awesome on here and I stick by the song I've said from the beginning - Battery. Listen to that song and tell me it wouldn't be AWESOME two-player action!!
Having Alice in Chains on there pretty much solidifies that I will have to get a PS2 for this game only. I really hope it comes out for Xbox but I'm definitely not getting my hopes up.
Last but not least, mad props for putting Rush on there.
socrates @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:54PM
Wow, what an impressive list. Them Bones and Heart Shaped Box makes me ALL KINDS of happy.
One could go on endlessly about things they should have....my biggest requests would be:
-please have some complicated bluesy stuff, a la the SRV song in GH1
-LED ZEPPELIN, Hendrix, and Santana. Somehow, someway, get that in there.
Between Guitar Hero 2, Final Fantasy XII, and God Hand....if I had to pick just one console's line-up over the next 6 months, I'd choose the PS2's over the PS3, 360, Wii....
dsub @ Sep 3rd 2006 10:59PM
I can't wait to rock out Lamb of God. Helllll YESSS!!!
m/ m/
dsub @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:01PM
Daniel. While it would be absolutley amazing to have Metallica in this game, I just don't see that happening with Lars Fuckrich (Ulrich) in the picture. He probably told Red Octane he wanted royalties from every copy of the game sold. As much as I love Metallica, I fucking hate Lars Ulrich.
retro @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:03PM
HAHAHAHAHAHA, Spinal Tap! To those who don't know, they were an imaginary band in a "mockumentary" by Rob Reiner named "This Is Spinal Tap". To have one of their songs in this game is going to be fantastically hilarious. I'm definitely getting this. lmao.
Sheir @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:16PM
Hell yes for Spinal Tap.
Joe @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:17PM
Come on. I sent this in a mere minute after I initially saw it, and two days later it comes up. I'd better have gotten a damned star or I'm so going to take your logo to the rifle range.
Wedge @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:17PM
Alice In Chains HELLS YES!
And it was already posted before, but G'n'R is great. I was sad it wasn't in the build at PAX.
Joe @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:17PM
Rifle range it is.
Konami @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:19PM
Win for Dick Dale. At least there's one good song in this game.
The H @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:21PM
Give that another hell yes for Spinal Tap.
GhaleonQ @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:24PM
I knew that this would happen eventually. *shrugs* The first game's list was just alright, but this one is certainly less than that. I can't wait for the genre-specific ones, though.
Pixel D @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:24PM
Wow good lineup so far. Quite a few good ones I'm looking forward to playing. Might sound like the outsider here but can't wait to play some primus (even though its not a bass heavy track). Crazy On You is not a hard track but, come on who can't get that riff out of their head.
Wonder if we are going to have to play Misirlou on expert with a kitchen mixer like I saw in a video a while back.
Overall its looking like a harder game as far as tracks (looks at freebird) but I would love to see some sipmle ones like "Black in Back", thats all I want.
OTAM @ Sep 3rd 2006 11:54PM
You're just pointing out the main shit. STP,Anthrax,Kiss,Lamb of God? I know NONE of those songs from those bands. The only big "hit" I know from STP is Plush.
And just to verify this,i've asked a friend who's big into metal and doesnt know half of those songs. The bands, yes, but not the songs. If you're going to put Kiss on there the only song that would work is "Rock N Roll all night" since "I was made for loving you" is more disco.
mercatfat @ Sep 4th 2006 12:39AM
OTAM-
You might be right about Lamb of God and MAYBE Stone Temple Pilots. Everything else you said is dumber than committing suicide while ghost ridin' the whip.
socrates @ Sep 4th 2006 12:57AM

Wow, you're either incredibly young, or are just not into rock music at all (if the latter, why are you so concerned about what is in this game?)
Strutter is the perfect KISS song for this game. Rock n' Roll all Night? Don't make me vomit. (nor is it complex enough).
Not heard of any STP besides Plush? Were you living in a Biodome for most of the mid-90s?
Shockingly enough, most of the top-40 hits by bands are far from the best songs, especially guitar wise. Why don't you try these songs...maybe you'll find out you can enjoy things that weren't played on Casey Kasem's show every morning.
TehDestroyer @ Sep 4th 2006 1:23AM

Problems:
1.The only big hit you know from STP is Plush? Go fucking listen to Purple now.
2.Your friend isn't into to metal or is just under fourteen.
3.If you enjoy I Was Made For Loving You go slash your wrists now.
Pal @ Sep 4th 2006 1:28AM
Good times, Lamb of God, Sabbath, Avenged Sevenfold, Spinal Tap, Anthrax...
I want more metal though...real metal. They need to get Wintersun, Children of Bodom, Cannibal Corpse (that might be asking too much)...Dethklok?
KBeat @ Sep 4th 2006 1:37AM
Pretty good list so far. I'm also holding out hope for Metallica, Def Leppard, and Led Zep.
The Rev @ Sep 4th 2006 1:39AM
avenged sevenfold and motley crue?! damnit i want it but i dont because i refuse to buy anything with sony on it....we need a 360 version
Mac @ Sep 4th 2006 1:47AM
to #7, although Dragonforce is possible the best band of the day, there is no way that dive bombs, insane two person solos, and the part in "Through the Fire and Flames" where Herman Li breaks a sting would ever be able to be copied. It would be interesting and would no doubt destroy Bark at the Moon, but it just isn't likely despite yours or my highest wishes.
TehDestroyer @ Sep 4th 2006 2:06AM
To anyone hoping for Metallica, I urge you to not get your hopes up. Like another poster has already mentioned, Lars Ulrich hates to give his music away for less than a king's ransom. It's too bad he's such an established member of the band, hopefully they'll boot him soon enough and the rivers can run free with the sweet sweet sounds of Battery.
Brian @ Sep 4th 2006 2:09AM
Mac, that may be true, but a Dragonforce song could be considered the "Max 300" of GH2: complete this song, and you are a Guitar Hero god. The 2 person solos could be done in co-op :D
Eric @ Sep 4th 2006 2:16AM
Love the list, so many great songs. I wish there was a better Van Halen track, it's going to remind me of playing Karoake Revolution, yuck.
Jeff @ Sep 4th 2006 2:50AM
Nirvana; "Heart-Shaped Box"
Nirvana sucks. Pearl Jam would definitely be a better choice. Of course, they'd probably use Worldwide Suicide, which would blow more than Heart-Shaped Box.
Primus (original recording); "John the Fisherman"
Hell yes.
Stone Temple Pilots; "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart"
Interstate Love Song would have been better, but that's totally personal opinion.
Anthrax; "Madhouse"
....wheeeeeee.
Motley Crue; "Shout at the Devil"
Motley Crue!? Yuck. They could have at least picked a better song...Kickstart My Heart would have been good.
The Police; "Message in a Bottle"
Bah. Crappy song by a crappy band. Don't Stand So Close To Me is a much better song, but probably not good for this game...
The Pretenders; Tattooed Love Boys"
Lol.
Spinal Tap; "Tonight I'm Gonna Rock You Tonight"
Hell yes again!
Heart; "Crazy on You"
Meh. I don't like Heart too much, but it's not terrible.
Allman Brothers Band; "Jessica"
OMFG I HATE THIS SONG.
Lynyrd Skynrd; "Freebird"
I wonder if they'll cut down the solo like they did with Iron Man. That sucked so much, they chopped out an entire solo.
Avenged Sevenfold; "Beast and the Harlot"
"My beast and a harlot is better than your beast and a harlot." Haha.
Dick Dale; "Misirlou"
Of course they go with the Pulp Fiction song...Oh well.
Lamb of God; "Laid to Rest"
Bleah.
Alice in Chains; "Them Bones"
I guess this was the only real choice for Guitar Hero, though I think the song is kind of boring.
Reverend Horton Heat; "Psychobilly Freakout"
Hell yeah a third time.
Black Sabbath; "War Pigs"
And a fourth time.
KISS; "Strutter"
KISS sucks.
Butthole Surfers; "Who Was in My Room Last Night?"
Where did this come from?
Van Halen; "You Really Got Me"
NO. I like this song, but the Van Halen version is an insult to the Davies brothers. David Lee Roth can fall in a hole. WHY didn't they use ERUPTION?!
Guns N' Roses; "Sweet Child O'Mine"
Ew, Guns n' Roses. Ew. But it will probably be fun to play.
The Rolling Stones; "Can You Hear Me Knocking?"
Wtf, why not Gimme Shelter?
Rush; "YYZ"
Lol again.
Ok, so...Personally I think if they were going to do Metallica they should do Trapped Under Ice, and the only Def Leppard song that doesn't make me want to tear my ears off is Wasted. Let's see...Helicopter by Bloc Party would be good because it's fun to play and isn't just riff riff riff riff solo riff. Hmmmm...let's see...Tired of Sex by Weezer, Suburban Home by Descendents, Depression by Black Flag, Just Like Heaven by The Cure, Cactus by Pixies, At The Library by Green Day, I Saw Her Standing There by The Beatles, and Maxwell Murder by Rancid. These are songs I know won't be in the game but it would be really awesome if they were.
Also, I hope to God Aerosmith is not in this game. Aerosmith is a dirge upon society. Sober by Tool would be good...or maybe H.
Rosbif @ Sep 4th 2006 3:20AM
More Queen, and Dragonforce would be the seller for me, I'd have that thing pre-ordered the second I could!
Kasumi-Astra @ Sep 4th 2006 3:23AM
"Allman Brothers Band; "Jessica"
OMFG I HATE THIS SONG."
But it's the Top Gear theme tune :-(
mercatfat @ Sep 4th 2006 3:52AM
Oh, Jeff. You wonderful prentention machine, you.
Tell me more of what sucks.
Ian @ Sep 4th 2006 4:04AM
OMG! Alice in chains = my uber fav band ever! Plus nirvana! Sweet :) To bad I won't buy the game :p
Alkaiser @ Sep 4th 2006 4:14AM
I'm hoping for Gary Hoey's rendition of Linus & Lucy from the Endless Summer II sountrack.
Cheap Trick would be cool, and if they want to make the game fly off shelves in Japan, they'd put some Mr. Big on it. (For some reason, a lot of 80s hair bands were and still are HUGE over there.)
Heart Shaped Box isn't really the first Nirvana song I'd choose. Personally, I think some of the older Foo Fighters would be REALLY kickass.
But there's enough on that list there with STP, Spinal Tap, Van Halan, and The Police for me to be excited about GH2.
GSI @ Sep 4th 2006 5:08AM
@ Jeff:
-->"Nirvana; "Heart-Shaped Box"
Nirvana sucks. Pearl Jam would definitely be a better choice. Of course, they'd probably use Worldwide Suicide, which would blow more than Heart-Shaped Box."
WTF? Pearl Jam had what effect on the music industry? Oh that's right...they were just another band with a couple big hits then they were forgotten about.
I wasn't even a big fan of Nirvana (at the time) when they were the biggest thing in music, but I could tell they would have a last impression.
No Aerosmith? Ummmm...How old are you? You do know that they have been pretty successful at reinventing themselves right? And getting it right every time.
...oh and regarding the rumor of TOOL being on the list.
/faints
GOD THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME!
/crosses fingers
/wishes REALLY hard
