Dreamfall predecessor to be re-released for $10
Aspyr Media has announced that, due to the "hugely successful release of Dreamfall," it will be re-releasing the adventure game's prequel, The Longest Journey, for PC. Both titles were critical darlings (hence "hugely successful"), although sales were Though the title is still pretty easy to find (Amazon sells it in stock for $10, while a quick search on Froogle will find you a plethora of other vendors), Aspyr tells us that the title was never widely distributed in North America, and that the game will find its way onto brick-and-mortar store shelves, priced to move at $9.99.
Tim Schafer's masterpiece, Psychonauts, reached #4 on Amazon's list of Top Sellers in Video Games after dropping the PC / PS2 price to $9.99. The Longest Journey, the brainchild of Ragnar Tørnquist, is a great adventure game that we can easily recommend for $10.
ASPYR MEDIA TO RE-RELEASE IN NORTH AMERICA FUNCOM'S POPULAR PC ADVENTURE GAME – THE LONGEST JOURNEY
Austin, TX, September 6, 2006 – On the heels of the hugely successful release of Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, Aspyr Media is re-releasing for the series' fans and newcomers Funcom's original PC adventure game, The Longest Journey. Previously released in late 2000, the award-winning The Longest Journey game was a runaway hit and has been considered to be one of the finest adventure games ever made with more than 70 speaking characters and over 50 hours of gameplay. By reissuing The Longest Journey, fans of the original will be able to relive the experience and players that are new to the series will be able to immerse themselves in the epic that plays through more than 160 unique locations and tells the thrilling story that started it all. The game will be released in early September.
With a story spanning thirteen complete chapters through two distinct and detailed worlds and includes a surprising and emotional finale, The Longest Journey is an adventure to be remembered. Taking place 200 years into the future in a world based on science and technology, the game is a fantastic science-fiction/fantasy adventure as seen through the eyes of the18-year-old art student April Ryan. She is an ordinary girl whose life is suddenly turned upside down when she discovers the existence of a parallel world full of magic and strange creatures. April Ryan has the power to shift between these two worlds, and soon discovers that she has a very important mission in life. Her destiny is to travel between the two worlds to save humankind from total destruction. April's charming personality and street-smart attitude is her only weapon against evil forces.
Earlier this year Aspyr released Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, the continuation of a saga that began in the original. The game was the winner of multiple E3 awards as the best game in its genre and was the top-selling adventure game in 2006. In Dreamfall, which takes place a decade after The Longest Journey, players revisit the epic universe and find out what really happened to April and follow a new protagonist, Zoë Castillo, as she becomes involved in a conspiracy threatening the very future of mankind More information about the game can be found on the official website www.dreamfall.com.

Oblig. Princess Bride re: "brisk":
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Has anyone had much success running games on XP-64? I have an extra rig at work and want to bring it home for PC gaming. I like the speed of a 64-bit OS, but I have had problems with driver support at work for other applications. Any first-hand suggestions or issues would be appreciated.
Oh…that was off topic. Let me tie it in. Ummm, I really want to buy this game now that it’s ten bucks, so that’s why I need to know about my 64 bit problem. There we go. Seamless.

The longest Journey is the most story-intensive game in the most story-intensive genre there is. The plot, dialogue, and voice actors are excellent, but if you don't like sitting at your computer and listening for an hour or more, don't pick this one up. Seriously, it's worse than Xenosaga.
Prufrock @ Sep 5th 2006 8:28PM
I'm glad you got to it first, Jeremy. I was just going to point and laugh.
AoE @ Sep 5th 2006 8:42PM
I agree with Jeremy & Prufrock; nothing sad about brisk sales; unless we're talking about EA's games ;)
Matt @ Sep 5th 2006 8:50PM
Why would brisk sales be a bad thing?

One of the best adventure games ever ... if not the best, and that's saying a lot! By the way, the sequel is backwards compatible on the 360.
Cabcru @ Sep 5th 2006 9:46PM
They should just give 'The Longest Journey' away free with 'Dreamfall' as the sequel assumes you're completely up to speed with the characters/plot from the first game (and suffers because of it).

More like the Buggiest Journey...
I'm not sure the reward for solving the underwater puzzle really is being sent back to the desktop...:/

I tried really hard to get into Dreamfall, but I just couldn't. It kept putting me to sleep. Is there something I'm missing?
When does this game become fun, interesting, or even entertaining?
Please, someone tell me.
Dave @ Sep 5th 2006 11:30PM
My fiance really got into this game. She was obsessed with it until she finished. She's already talking about how she can't wait for the sequel.
fraxyl @ Sep 6th 2006 10:09AM
It probably becomes fun when your perception of what fun is changes. Though that's not likely. There's no reason to tell people you've never met you don't like it. If you stop them from trying it, they'll never decide for themselves whether they will enjoy it or not.
Derision aside, I hope this also arrives down under. I went looking for it at my local EB and couldn't find it... perhaps I'll have to renew the search soon.

F*CK YEAH!
Sorry, I get passionate about this =P The original is one of my favourite games of all time, and severely underrated. Glad to see this'll give more people a chance to buy it, seeing as it's REALLY hard to buy in shops nowadays. Any news of it coming to the UK as well?
reppy @ Sep 6th 2006 3:41AM
Awesome. I tried to find this game after playing Dreamfall with no luck (Didn't feel like buying it online. Why? I dunno.)
Lucca @ Sep 7th 2006 4:01PM
I never saw The Longest Journey (or Dreamfall) and it looks very interesting. Now if only I was in America. :/

At the risk of getting yelled at, does anyone know if this has Starforce? I heard this company includes Starforce in their games and I don't want to risk it.
