New Stranglehold trailer released

We just got sent the brand new trailer for John Woo's Stranglehold which is set to release early next year on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. What's so special about this video is that it contains footage that is beyond what we've been seeing and playing since E3. Previously, all we got to plant our eyes on and experience was the same restaurant level that Midway has been throwing our way for months.
Because of that and a release date delay, we were starting to get worried this title may not make its way to the public. It's a cool concept and controls beautifully, so we'd hate to see it not be released.

The more I see of Stranglehold, the more I'm convinced that Midway has already gone in my wallet and grabbed $60

I wonder how many comments in it will take for someone to claim that the PS3/360/PC version will be the best version. My guess is that post 9 will be "PS3 version will be better because..."
sadt @ Sep 5th 2006 5:02PM
#3 Of course the PS3 have the better version because it is more expensive;therefore, the graphics will look better and it is a Sony console..
Tull @ Sep 5th 2006 5:07PM
Err, where's Ted?
tactics @ Sep 5th 2006 5:11PM
wow... it says "next-generation" consoles and PC at the end of the ad...
:(
does that not include the "new-generation" colsole?
looks like a badass game, though.
-"superfan" tactics.

Dangit #4, you ruined my "ConsoleX RULZ" prediction.
vidGuy @ Sep 5th 2006 5:19PM
I like the sliding-on-the-ground-while-shooting, but the rest is complete meh to me.
bv's link to gameplay footage shows off something that's real impressive: the destructiblity of the environments.
Looks like I'll give it a go on the 360.
bounchfx @ Sep 5th 2006 5:19PM
What the **** is this, a movie or a game? I hate how games keep trying more and more to be like movies.
IT'S F***ING STUPID.
Anyway, it does look sorta fun :P
halobreaker @ Sep 5th 2006 5:23PM
I love the Max Payne Series (when it's 10 bucks) so I'm guessing this one will be equally as fun.

@8
LOL! You are hilarious. I didn't expect your post to end like that.
Exick @ Sep 5th 2006 5:26PM
What are the chances we'll get to download this trailer on Xbox Live?
cringer8 @ Sep 5th 2006 5:24PM
Wow. I love third-person shooters with "slow-mo" control. This game looks like a "must have."
Those destructible environments will be crazy fun. If any game could make me purchase any console other than the Wii, this is one of them. Too bad neither MS or Sony could get this as an exclusive (those days are quickly disappearing). It would be a system seller for sure.
GSI @ Sep 5th 2006 5:42PM
Ya know...just b/c a game is postponed doesn't mean in any way that it is in danger of being cancelled. If you guys actually knew what you were talking about, you would know that games are delayed or pushed back all the time.
Anyways...if you guys look at the E3 footage and then compare it to this trailer, you will see a HUGE improvement in how the game runs.
Embassy @ Sep 5th 2006 6:24PM
so basically this is max payne 3...
im down for that.

Maybe it would serve you well to read things twice (or three times) before attacking someone.
It clearly says that they were *starting* to get *worried* that the game *might* not make it to the public. The reason they were starting to get worried is because it *appeared* Midway had only made one level *and* they announced a delay. Where in there did you see them claim "this game won't make it to the public because it was delayed?" Try reading again after removing the chip from your shoulder.
Maybe you should start your own blog and do things "better."
Toasterpastries @ Sep 5th 2006 6:35PM
Almost looks like the Matrix.
GSI @ Sep 5th 2006 6:38PM
@ cringer8:
Umm...I responded like that b/c I know WAAAY more then any of you guys here AND the bloggers who post stories on here.
Why is that? I have a really good friend working on the project so I know plenty about this project.

The person doing the real time gameplay demo in that video is Patrick Curry, the games lead designer.
leavemealone347 @ Sep 5th 2006 7:11PM
Amazing looking game I can't wait. Looks better after every vid/screenshot!
Dirtyboy @ Sep 5th 2006 7:55PM
LOL, and like a typical Hong Kong shooter movie, a mysterious lack of reloading...
Still looks like fun.
cringer8 @ Sep 5th 2006 7:58PM
@ GSI
That's all well and good, but it doesn't address my response to you. You still misread the post.
No one is saying that the game might not come out.
Again: What Robert said was that he *was* (past tense) getting worried that the game might not make it to completion (based on *more* than just a delay). But after seeing the new trailer, he is excited to see that it's actually coming along. He ended by saying that having a game this cool not get released would suck ass. You just read it wrong.
Oh, and you don't know more than me. I have an even *better* friend working even *closer* on this project :p
GSI @ Sep 5th 2006 8:11PM
Well me (and the company I work for) have an even *CLOSER* contact in this game AND the company...so HA! (along with other "things" around the industry.) :-P
I said what I said b/c Robert said basically the same thing about Timehsift when it was announced that it was delayed. He said it could go the way of Duke Nukem b/c it was delayed (again.)
cringer8 @ Sep 5th 2006 8:17PM
Ahh, I wasn't aware of the pattern. You're absolutely right; delays mean nothing. If anything, they only benefit the consumer.
GSI @ Sep 5th 2006 8:25PM
See... ;-)
Robert Summa @ Sep 5th 2006 9:20PM
Guys, of course I understand delays happen and sometimes they are a good thing. I merely say things like this because I get paranoid and worried when games I like keep getting pushed back.
GSI @ Sep 5th 2006 9:47PM
It's freakin' NORMAL for games to get delayed or pushed back. Stop being so damn paranoid b/c when you put it in your blogs, it makes you sound like a complete amateur.
