2K Games publishing Civilization compilation, Jade Empire PC

For those discerning gamers who prefer to employ their hands in sculpting lives and constructing sprawling empires, 2K Games have announced the forthcoming release of a completely compelling compilation of Civilization games. Though the chosen title, Sid Meier's Civilization Chronicles, may lead you to believe that the package comprises a stack of yellow paper hastily scribbled upon by the esteemed Mr. Meier and thoroughly detailing his development trials, tribulations and battles with encroaching madness ... it actually just contains all the games in the series. Those would be:
- Sid Meier's Civilization I
- Sid Meier's Civilization II
- Civilization II: Fantastic Worlds
- Civilization II: Conflicts in Civilization
- Civilization II: Test of Time
- Sid Meier's Civilization III
- Sid Meier's Civilization III: Play the World
- Sid Meier's Civilization III: Conquests
- Sid Meier's Civilization IV
- Sid and Nancy's Civilization 2K6: Stoned Age (unconfirmed)
2K Games also revealed that they will be publishing the PC (that's personal computer, in this case) version of Bioware's martial arts RPG, Jade Empire. Picking it up in lieu of the April 2005 Xbox version will net you enhanced graphics and AI, new fighting styles, more monsters, an art booklet and an unusual desire to dispense flying kicks. Get it this January and struggle to find out why Sid Meier's Jade Empire isn't a real game.

I'd buy this in 2 shakes of a Wii's nunchuck if it had freaking WARLORDS. I mean, even raise the price so that it can include warlords.
But this compilation is already outdated, and if I'm going to blow some money on the expansion once I get some free time...what's the point?

If by outdated you mean that you have owned and played all of these games then, yes, it is outdated for you. Great for newcomers to the series or people who have missed out on the hard-to-find older games, though.
If, by "outdated" you somehow meant that because these PC games are older that they are somehow inferior to other more modern games, then you are dead wrong.
All of the above are amazing games (Civ 3 is still my fav of the series) and such a large compilation at that price is pretty awesome.
This is obviously aimed at big Civilization fanatics and a certain target audience of micromanaging strategy gamers who dont plan on doing anything else with their lives (fine by me). The games are not "outdated". They are "classics".

Wha? really? Let me just say, as a Civ fanboy since the first one... EEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!! This is awesome news, and the price tag is worth it just for all the extras.
The question is though, will they be UPDATING the games for xp compatability? Not an issue with the newer entries I realize... but are we going to need to bust dosbox to play the original flavor?

Civ 4 is the best in the series IMO.
I'm glad Jade Empire is coming to the PC. I really wanted it when it came out, but I wasn't going to buy an xbox for it.

I'm not saying the *games* are outdated...I'm a ginormous Civ fan (played on Realmsbeyond and all those crazy variant stuff)...I just wish they would include *all* of the existing Civ games. Making a "compilation" that is incomplete is like writing a world history that stops in 1950!

I could give a rats ass about these games (I find them insanely boring), but I CRACKED UP when read:
"Sid and Nancy's Civilization 2K6: Stoned Age (unconfirmed)"
HAHAHAHAHA!

Any game about civilization pretty much rules. I hope this one doesn't let me down.

Civ 2 is the best in the series IMO. I still play it to this day.
With that being said, I've never played Civ 1. I have all of the games on that list except Civ 1, I might buy it just for that.
arrakisman @ Sep 7th 2006 10:46PM
How bout Alpha Centari too.. Isn't that Civ on another planet.

Ooo, Jade Empire on my PC!
Am I the only one who's loving these PC ports? Resident Evil 4 for the PC has my left mouse button manipulator (also known as my index finger) itching like CRAZY.
Unfortunately, it has been delayed until November. CURSE YOU CAPCOOOOM!!!!

@ 11
Aren't Ubisoft in charge of the PC version of RE4? Or am I way out of date? :p
Anyway, really looking forward to Jade Empire on the PC. Had it on the Xbox, found it a bit short, but PC gaming = mods (hopefully :s)
What's not to like?

I dont care about civ, I played civ 1000 times, I played civ 1, 2, 3, 4, whatever. Where is Alpha Centauri 2, thats all I want, a sequel to the best game in the history of PC games. AC is like Civ, only better, because it is more interesting, more creative and more open ended, please sid, no more civ, or at least take a break an make me AC2.
n8dogg @ Sep 7th 2006 11:59PM
@12 (Hixx) Ah, that's news to me. I just saw the release on the Gamestop computers while I was telling a customer about games coming out in the future.
Man, Ubisoft seems to have its fingers in everything game related now-a-days. I think we're looking at the new EA here, folks!
JOSH @ Sep 11th 2006 2:55PM
DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUT THE CIV GAMES BUT JADE EMPIRE IS ONE OF THE BEST ACTION RPG'S I HAVE EVER PLAYED HANDS DOWN. THEM FOLKS AT BIOWARE MAKE AWESOME GAMES.
josh @ Sep 8th 2006 6:14PM
Uhhhh obviously the first poster was saying that it's outdated because it doesn't include Civ 4 : Warlords, the most recent Civ expansion.
Also I agree, no Alpha Centauri Love?
I really hope they update AC... even if they just modify the Civ 4 engine (hell, the Civ 3 engine)... great game.
