Forza 2 delayed, release date in limbo

After several days of internet murmurings and a noticeable lack of response from Microsoft, a delay in Forza 2's holiday release has manifested in that cruel place often referred to as "reality." Posting on the official Forza Motorsport forums, community manager Che Chou (username "chespace") revealed that the speedy sim sequel would overtake the 2006 holiday period and that the team would not "announce a new date until X06. Gotta do what you gotta do to get things right, y'know?"
Oh, we know. Given the game's relatively brief development time (the first Forza hit the Xbox last year), lofty goals and glut of prerendered promotional trailers, the news will likely disappoint more than it surprises. The few weeks leading up to Microsoft's X06 event are sure to be filled with speculation regarding the new release date -- we hear March 2007 is pretty popular these days. In the meantime, Microsoft expects you to gaze upon the latest screenshots, one of which features a rather exciting wall.

haha, dont guess there will be much bashing of MS like there would be if gt5 were to get delayed. but this is hilarious, because to read all the post the last 2 days MS is far above sony and would NEVER delay anything.....

Delaying a system and delaying a game are two completely different things.
Every time I hear about a racing game being delayed I think back when Kazunori Yamauchi wanted to spend more time polishing his Gran Turismo games. We all know how that turned out. Hopefully Forza 2 will end up being a much better game with the extra development time.

Umm, I didnt know that Forza, which is software, compares to a well known pice of hardware that is the PS3. Delaying a game to boost quality is one thing, but delaying a console because of the lack of preparation and hardware shortages is another.

Well, first of all, wasn't Gran Turismo 4 delayed like two years? And when it finally shipped, wasn't it completely lacking online racing?
Secondly, delays don't bother me. Take an extra lap, get it right. I'll take a better game later, rather than a lesser game now.

That might be true, but I doubt you have played Forza 2. Another thing you might want to remember is that there wouldn't be a Forza without Gran Turismo and "that yamiuchi guy".

Oh, that's right, I forgot. It's COOL to bash Sony now (as well as anyone who doesn't unconditionally despise the company), regardless of what the news is about.
What makes me laugh is if Nintendo regains and stranglehold on the market and the PS3 sells as badly as a lot of people here are hoping it will, then the situation will be reversed in a year or two - Nintendo the evil overlord, and Sony the struggling underdog with the underappreciated console.
But hey, that's what bandwagons are for, right?

Still can't wait for FM2!!! And I don't think a delay is official, merely that a release date will be given at X06.. We can read into it that it's delayed, but since there was never a release date, merely a sort of/kind of time period that it was hoping to release.
Hopefully at X06 they will announce a date that isn't too far away..

putting out a system that overheats constantly or has disc read problems is ok though right? I have not had hardly any problems with my 360 but 3 of my friends have had major issues. All you MS fluffers would have stood by MS if there were production delays (oh wait, you already did, tsk). Sony is going to have as nearly identical overhyped a launch as the 360 did, while the Wii cruises on with a mix of quirkiness and mediocrity.

hahah take that xbots, how do you like it that generic xbox racer #3, the poor man's Gran Turismo knockoff has been delayed? Probably because they saw sony's presentation of GT in trueHD, and MS forced them to up the graphics to match it... but its turning out impossible without the power of the Cell.

Well, the PS3 may be getting delayed and there will be a lot of people that will have to wait... but if Sony can pull out a console that doesn´t overheat, destroys Blurays or just fails for no reason, it will be a winner to me.
Forza 2, looks fine, but I enjoy arcade racers... like... you know... Riiiiiiiiiiiidge Raceeeeeeeer!!!! ;-) and Burnout, PGR was a great game, but not arcadey enough.

@V1L3 - Actually, when Nintendo was king of the hill no one thought of them as evil overlords. You'd think by now it would be a well known fact that both Sony and Microsoft got into the console market with bigger aspirations than creating killer game consoles; Nintendo on the other hand? They're in it for the games. To make money on games to be sure, but just games. MS of course wants into the living room very badly so they can sell us all sorts of stuff. Sony? well, this time around I think we ALL know they're all about using the PS3 to leverage bluray. So no, if Nintendo wins this round, I doubt anyone's going to start going off on what an evil corp they are. Keep in mind that MS isn't #1 in any market, yet their evil is pointed out regularly. Being called an evil corporation isn't a symptom of being at the top, it's the symptom of being an evil corporation.
@aZn_1080P - Thanks for the laugh. Just fyi, the gpu is quite a bit more important when it comes to making things pretty than the cpu. But thanks for playing! ;)

March 7 2007 release date anyone? MS failed to "break" the Euro PS3 launch with GoW because of the delay so it wouldnt be much of a suprise if they try it again would it?

Actually, I strongly disagree. Mostly due to the fact that unlike Sony, Nintendo is a Video Game company, first and foremost. They don't have other agendas such as using their consoles as a trojan horse to force their new DVD format down your throat. With Nintendo it's always been straight-forward games. Now, the issue with the Wii is that it doesn't offer the graphical power of the 360. Right now the gaming community is still made up of folks who like the graphical progression of the 360, and the innovative progression of the Wii. This leads me to believe that unless MS and Nintendo completely miss this opportunity to overthrow Sony, they'll be nearly 50/50 in marketshare by the end of this round, with one being slightly ahead. Something like 40/40/20.

When Forza 2 was "shown" at E3 and it was just a movie that didn't even show any gameplay, I knew Forza 2 wouldn't make this year.
Forza 1 was rushed too, showing obvious signs of being incomplete when it was released. So this being late isn't at all odd.
The really sad part is that Forza 1 still doesn't even work right under emulation on Xbox 360. It still drops to 4-5 fps in the esses at Road Atlanta.
So I have a 360 with a great wireless controller and Live. But all I can play is PGR3. I can't play Forza 1. I can't play Forza 2. I can't play PGR2 (with its proper selection of cars, tracks and challenges). I can't play TOCA Race Driver 3 (or 2 for that matter). I can't play Rallisport Challenge 2 (or 1).
How exactly do they propose to sell those steering wheels with only one racing game, and that one light on content (but not on graphics)?

some of you people sound like a bunch of whinning bitches, putting down ms or sony or whoever it gets tiring and really annoying. then you blam joystiq for posting negative sony news when thats all anyone posts about them anymore. i even saw negative news about ps3 in my local newspaper so its a fact you sony fans have to deal with. forza 2 just doesnt have a release date that doesnt mean it wont come out this year and if it does so what it will only make it better. i wish some of you would just shut up and enjoy games for what they are and stop bashing every post, every system and every game. if you dont like ms why are you posting in here. if you dont like sony why do you post in a sony story? stop wasting your life because people dont care about other peoples biased opinions. thanks for listening!

I say take all the time you need. Forza 1 is the ONLY game I still play on my XBox, and Forza 2 was going to be my jump in point on the 360. Get it right and make us happier in the long run I say.
I've got a life, whether this game is on time or delayed makes no difference to me.
