Super Paper Mario moving to Wii-only is disappointing but not that surprising. I'll buy it either way when it drops to $20 - $30. Having the "new-gen" Wii tag on it may help sales; after all, what percentage of GameCube owners WON'T have a Wii within the next year?

I wonder if they'd go the LoZ:TP route and release two discs?

This is a mistake. I was and am still planning on buying it to play on the Wii anyway (given the backward compatability), but from Nintendo's standpoint, this was one of the last games to be a "must buy" Gamecube-only game. There's no reason to bring this to Wii: any Wii-mote based controls will simply be tacked on to a game never designed for them.

So am I. It wouldn't matter to me which one it came out on 'cause I can play it either way. I was hoping it came out on GC though so I could play it ASAP. I've been looking foward to this game since the last two were one of my all-time favorite games.

But it doesn't matter to me as long as I get to play it.

I think this is a great move. Super Paper Mario won't move a single Gamecube off the shelves, but it can certainly bolster Wii's (already amazing) lineup. The game would lend itself very well to Wiimote control (turn the Wiimote sideways to enter the "3rd" dimension?) and since the game was probably nearly completed, adding the Wiimote functionality is probably not hard to do.

Now if they're just make Baten Kaitos Origins a Wii game!

The Wii-mote could also obviously be used for "Art Attack", which was in Thousand Year Door and might be in this new game as well. You had to quickly draw circles around enemies, and the more circles you drew the more you attacked them.

Not to rain on anyone's parade (I wouldn't object to the game being moved to Wii, either), but how do we know Matt is being truthful?
If you ask me, his response to that email seemed more like a joke than anything...

I guess only time (or Nintendo) will tell...

Good call Nintendo. Considering how successful NSMB was on DS this was a smooth move on N's part. If Wii is successful as we think it will be, this game will be a smash hit.

Man Gamecube owners get screwed over a lot.

First LoZ:TW and now this.

Besides, it's not like you couldn't play it on the Wii, it'll just be without the Wiimote.

I would be mourning for the PS3 people more than over this.

Anyway, my 2cents. Yes it's a shame I wanted this on the cube as I'm not sure how they can add motion sensing to this game but then why does every game on the wii have to have motion sensing?

It all comes back to the situation with the DS that not all games HAVE to utilise the touch screen!

Why not a paper mario for the DS eh Nintendo?
