Winner of strongest fall lineup is ... PS2?

Gameworld Network has pieced together an outline of 10 upcoming PlayStation 2 titles, tagging the list "10 Reasons Not to Sell Your PS2 Just Yet." With the exceptions of Dawn of Mana and God of War 2, all of these titles will hit US retailers by early November -- and seven are exclusive to PS2. Starting with Rule of Rose's release next week, there's practically a must-play title dropping for PS2 every week through November 7:

Rule of Rose (September 12)
Okami (September 19)
God Hand (October 10)
Bully (October 17)
Final Fantasy XII (October 31)
Rogue Galaxy (October)
Guitar Hero II (November 7)

Can anyone show us a console/handheld with a stronger fall lineup? Nope, we didn't think so ... Sony might have lost points because of a pair of disappointing PS3 announcements, but that's not gonna affect PS2's continued dominance leading up to the holiday season.

Rogue Galaxy is delayed to January.

And how many of those titles will actually be exclusive? Knowing Rockstar, Bully won't be PS2-only for long. And frankly, Final Fantasy is basically a bunch of cutscenes with 10 seconds of gameplay in between.

Yeah, line-up's are purely subjective. I don't really want to play ANY of those games. My favorite line-up for fall is the 360's:

Gears of War
Splinter Cell 4: Double Agent
Rainbow Six Vegas

I'm sure there's plenty of Sony fans who would disagree with my picks, but those are the games the I personally want to play.

I put my ps2 in the "console closet" 1 week after 360 launch. Have not had an urge to get it out or play it since.

What about the Wii's 20+ launch titles? And even more launch-window titles? That's a good line-up, dammit.

That actually is a fairly impressive lineup. I don't think there are that many on the list I personally will pick up besides Rule of Rose and Okami but I'm sure it makes Q4 look better to those not jumping on the next-gen bandwagon yet.

The only ones I'm looking forward to for ps2 are GH2, Okami, FFXII, and God of war 2. but still, its a hell of a lot better lineup than ps3 and 360 this fall I think. I love my 360 but I cant think of any game besides GOW that I'd want to get this xmas. although I'm sure there is.

I will have to dust my PS2 off for God of War 2. That was one awesome game. And finding some info on what's coming in the second installment, I'm definitely not selling my PS2 yet!

Unfortunately for the X360, Gears of War, R6:Vegas and Call of Duty 3 all come out on the same day.

with final fantasy 12 clocking in at a reported 180 hours of gameplay, it'd be horrible to think of it as nothing more than cutscenes with 10 seconds of gameplay in between.

those are all great games and at least sony didnt just drop the ps2 like nintendo(which i love) dropped the gc

Everyone start your torrents and your dvd burners. This weekend is gonna cost a total of 5 blank dvds LOL. PS2 is the most pirated system in the world which is the only reason it sells so well.

Boring. I'm way too preoccupied with next gen consoles to buy anything more for my PS2 in the closet. I bought God of War a few months ago and was bored to death. Graphics just sucked way too much (especially on HD). I'm spoiled by my 360.

This is the exact reason why I have not yet bought a 360 and did not care about the PS3 delay in Europe. The "next generation" has come far too early for me and I'm more then happy with the flux of superb titles coming out for the PS2.

Sony better suck all they can out of the PS2 because their next edition surely doesn't look like its going to do so hot.

Its almost like most of their focus is still there. The only reason they dropped the PS3 now is because they didnt want to give MS a 2 year head start.

You're kidding yourself if you think that FFXII won't sell a million copies in the first week. Five years of pent-up demand by Square fanboys who aren't going next-gen until *Sony Says So* will do that.

Still, not much groundbreaking here except for Okami and the (delayed) Rogue Galaxy. And I don't care what GameStop says, Seiken Densetsu 4 isn't coming out this year in the states. It's not even out in Japan yet.

I guess it's all a matter of taste, but I prefer the 360's fall lineup. Titles that I'm interested in particularly are:

Gears of War
Rainbow Six
Splinter Cell
Tiger Woods 2007
F.E.A.R.
Fusion Frenzy 2
NBA 2K7 (W/ Dan the Automator)
Call of Duty 3

PS2's fall looks aight I guess- just doesn't do much for me personally.

serbz why would sony drop the ps2 like ms and nintendo drop the gamecube and the xbox??? sony is still making money of the ps2, in fact thats the only thing that keeps them afloat,in the other hand msn and nintendo where losing tens of millions of dollars just by providing support for the systems.

and about the line up, yeah is good, but seriously when you start playing games on HD is really hard to go back to SD, I mean i try hard on my PS2 but everitime I end up complaning on the blurry textures and this and that.

As much as I liked my PS2, I simply can't touch it anymore. It's good for nostalgia, but the platforms long dead as far as im concerned. I'm sure it'll be dragged on and on like the C64, but people just need to let it go.

My eyes cannot handle the old graphics anymore. If I were to pull a console from the closet, it would be dreamcast.

Of this lineup, I'm only interested in God of War 2 and Okami.

Personally, I am more excited about both the PS3 AND Wii lineup. Admittedly those are solid titles up there but last gen just doesn't get me hot like it used to. People can argue about PS3 vs. Wii vs. 360 but theres no doubt its a good time to be a gamer come xmas 06, no matter what your taste

i think penny-arcade has it right on the money when it comes to FFXII....it's been a slippery slope for FF for a while now, losing more and more pure gameplay every installment, where's my FFVI !!! i need a remake

In recent news for those under a rock, Final Fantasy is one of the longest running and most successful RPG series EVER, if not THE most successful...

Too bad it doesn't count because it only has 10 seconds of gameplay.

I'd expect ppl to be not too picky graphically given the popularity of wii, but alas.....

on a much serious note, god hand was smacked down by famitsu. God hand (Capcom): 6, 7, 7, 6 - (26/40).
and as far as I could remember,
okami: 10 10 10 9
ff12: 10 10 10 10
rgalaxy: 10 9 9 8

BUT, dodgy review from famitsu for Dirge. 7 7 7 7. The review was severely delayed.... hmm.... conspiracy??

The only games that have made me go back to my PS2 from my 360 have been Kingdom Hearts II for a couple weeks and Guitar Hero. That's it. Okami looks great, but I don't think I'll pick it up.

Um, yeah, I can easily show you a better fall lineup for either DS or Wii.

Meh, not too big on all of those titles 'cept for Guitar Hero, God Hand and Okami.

Thumbs up @ Capcom for the latter two. God Hand looks hella awesome. :)

That said Wii with TP and Metroid will slaughter everything else in terms of quality. :P :P

And the games that "aren't at launch, but come soon after" such as Mario Galaxy and SMASH BROS. BRAWL, whose awesome-ocities cannot be denied.

Oh wait, guys. The article mentions these games sprinkled throughout a certain time period rather than released at the same time, so it's not really a line-up at all, just what's coming out soon, so maybe Brawl and Galaxy DO count in Wii's "lineup", among the other games that have the potential to be good-to-awesome. So maybe Wii does have an equal line-up.

Sorry reguy, I don't know which alternate reality you're living in, but an abundance of media articles noting all three consoles have been available for quite some time, and the press for the Wii in particular has been overwhelmingly positive ever since E3, which is in stark contrast to the ongoing field day the press are having with the PR nightmare known as the PS3.

I want Okami, and Guitar Hero. I'm still not sure how good God Hand looks... But too many of those games may be too close to the Wii and Gears of War release dates. I don't see myself buying the Wii and then a few days later playing Guitar Hero.

PHANTASY STAR UNIVERSE is also on PS2 this fall, one week before FFXII.

Everyone forgets about that game damnit, but it's good!

I'm rather shocked at how many people have just brushed aside the PS2. I mean, it's one thing if you've sold it already or never had one to begin with. But the people who sound like they have just stuffed it in their closet to collect dust - that's surprising. I find it hard to believe that they can't find at least a couple of games from the above list to be worth playing.

the only game on that list that catches my interest is guitar hero II. I heard that's comin out for the 360 anyway. Regardless, none of those games are worth pulling my pos ps2 out from my closet. I like the 360's lineup better, and the Wii's launch lineup is far better than Sony's and MSoft's combined, and im a 360 fanboy.

My most anticipated fall lineup is definately the wii lineup, although I will most likely buy Okami and FFXII when they become greatest hits titles (same thing I'm doing with Kingdom Hearts 2)

What can I say, I'm cheap.

But honestly, as long as Twilight Princess or Children of Mana are out this fall, I don't care what else comes out.

And I have a question for all the commenters: Am I the only person that actually finds it enjoyable to play my old systems even after new ones launch? Hell, I still play my super nintendo at least 3 or 4 times a week. Mario Kart DS is all well and good, but nothing beats the original.

I'll give you Okami. But the rest does nothing for me. Rule of Rose, Rogue Galaxy, and Bully won't live up to their hype. I've heard of God Hand in passing. Final Fantasy will sell, but I don't get excited for generic RPGs. Guitar Hero is great for those of us willing to spend $80 on a rhythm game or like that kind of music. It's a niche game. A good niche game, but a niche game nonetheless.

I see a lot of hype, but not a lot of games.

I haven't even heard of mose of those games. Rule Of Rose? God Hand? Rouge Galaxy who? Why should I care about any of these games?

besides gears of war, the ps2 has TONS of better games coming out. honestly. okami? god of war 2? Guitar hero 2? I won't even mention FFXII. But I bet you if any of these games were on 360 you'd be snatching them up. mos t of you have ps2's but you just wont get them because 'its for ps2'. it's so freaking sad. they will be better games than what ps3 will have to offer, and xbox360.

sorry for repeating myself but besides wii, IF EVEN wii, the console with most (AAA quality) games to offer this holiday season is definitley the ps2. if you deny it you are just either ignorant or you don't like those types of games. (Action, music, rpg, adventure)

and if you don't like those types of games I don't know why you are gaming.

They're right- I hate to admit it, but putting all fanboyism aside, the PS2 does have the best lineup for the next 5-6 months (counting Dawn of Mana and God of War 2). Here are some other ps2 games they forgot even (not all are exclusive, but still available for ps2):

Mortal Kombat Armageddon
Phantasy Star Universe
Sega Genesis Collection
Capcom Classics 2

Ironically, the second best fall/winter lineup is for the DS- I say ironically because that would make the two best systems to own this holiday, both current gen systems.

Just because Final Fantasy is the most successful RPG of all time doesnt mean it is the best. Madden is the most successful football game of all time but it got spanked by the 2K series in ratings. Granted Final Fantasy used to be a solid series but it has degenerated into a cutscene fest. And 65 of those 70 hours is just pressing the Square button.

My list is all Xbox 360 (not to a surprise to anyone I am sure). Bellow is the list in order or importance (to me that is)

1) NHL 07 (but dang that demo was horrid...give me a game, not a shootout)
2) Gear of War
3) Splinter Cell: Double Agent
4) Star Trek: Legacy
5) Lego Star Wars II (I want the acheivement for toasting Vader's a$$)
6) Call of Duty 3
7) Need for Speed: Carbon
8) Dead or Alive Xtreme 2
9) Viva Pinata (actualy looks fun)
10) Fuzion Frenzy 2(the first was a blast at parties)
