You f* stupid Sh*t i cant beleive you dont pay attetion to anything, there are dozens of TV that do 1080p over HDMI but analog there is only 2 ok get it, as for you trying to spooon us all of your sony fanfu*k sh*t just shut the He*ll up you not of what you talk about. So what kind of TV do you have? will you benifit from Blu-Ray and cosider your self happy afterwards for popping 600$ on a shit%ty MPEG-2 Blu-Ray player, plus you think that the developer will actually take the extra time to make a game for BS3 4-5 time larger when that would cost millions and return nothing but a little satisfaction from you

Hei guys...

i owned an xbox 360, PS2, Xbox, PSP, GBA and a great PC to play games on it...

to be honest, i was disappointed that the 360 does not support any next generation storage media (HD-DVD & Blue Ray) as the standard medium for the system..

the fact is that, when you're talking about HD gaming, it means all that game data, needs to be HD format from visuals (texture resolution, video) to audio (HD Audio format)... to store these types of HD data, you certainly need bigger space. hence, a next generation format is required... i would have hoped that they made the HD-DVD a standard format for the 360 but somehow, it turns out the HD-DVD drive is an add on... video game history has shown that add onn device is a bad idea... in the short term, sticking with DVD format, is an effective way to keep hardware cost down... however in the long run, when games starting to get bigger and bigger, i really dont think 9GB of space will be sufficient enough.....

on the other hand, current games (PC and consoles) about 99% of them come in a single DVD... it's odd to think how "RESISTANCE - Fall of Man" takes so much space in the Blue-Ray disc (20GB), more than any other game in existance!!

for now, i dont think i will need any of these next generation formats. and microsoft gives me the option to do just that....

On the difference between 1080p & 720p/1080i......
As I understand it there is no discernable difference between 1080p & 720p/1080i, even if you get right up close to the screen. The only ppl who gain from 1080p is Sony with its next-generation anti-piracy measures.
The only advantage I know that BR has over HD-DVD is that it can store a little more on the disc.

For more reasons why we dont need 1080p read the following:-

http://uk.gamespot.com/pages/forums/show_msgs.php?topic_id=24908759

Really we dont need 1080p - most TV's cant handle it anyway & those that will, will be very, very expensive.

Anyway i'm going to buy a HD-DVD player when it turns up here in the UK as I think BR will fail because its basically for crazy rich ppl :)

Prohibitively EXPENSIVE.

Yet at least I've a choice to buy next-gen DVD or not, Wi-Fi or not...

From a gamer's point of view it still is "Sony costs 200 bucks more".

@ JJ
What the hell is the Phantom? You mean there's another company looking to release a game system?

Sheesh, the fighting in this in nonstop. I bet if all of us were in one building discussing this, there'd be blood within five minutes. And over what? Video game consoles.

I haven't been a fanboy of anything but the Red Sox after Sega became a third-party company and dropped the Dreamcast. Since then I've tried to keep a level head through all these "debates". I should repeat for a third time that game consoles themselves are nothing but boxes filled with wires and silicon, slapped together with a nice name. The games are the only defining factor, and lately I have to say Xbox has been on a rising trend. The later days of the original XBox were loaded with classics left and right despite it's rocky start, and the XBox 360 seems to have taken that ball and run with it with Perfect Dark, Ghost Recon, and Dead Rising. I don't see what all this 1080xyz HDBluraycellprocessorwifi jargon has to do with those. I still have respect for Sony PS2 for their Final Fantasy titles, which I wish American audiences wouldn't hate just for it's anime-like qualities, and for the Fatal Frame series being the best game of the survival-horror genre. But their emphasis on PS3 hardware superiority not only makes me question the quality of it's games but really makes it seem like they're drilling into us the philosophy that the bigger dog MUST defeat the smaller dog simply because it's bigger.
I haven't liked Nintendo's products much through the previous generation but I really like the sound of their Wii (not the sound of the name, of course) and the way they're providing a new dimension of gameplay without bugging over their technology. This shows that they're willing to experiment and give us games like nothing we've ever seen before, as opposed to the strict attitude they had with Gamecube's slew of kiddie platform games.
When put altogether, Nintendo and Microsoft deserve this generation. Nintendo can actually back up it's promises of great games, and Microsoft has already produced great games. PS3 thus far has promised a lot of hardware with little word on its games, but I don't want to see Sony burn for their efforts. Hopefully they'll deliver to gamers the way Microsoft has and gamers will still have plenty to choose from in the console race.

As for the original topic, I'm sorry but why the hell should I care what video games cost in Europe if I'm buying mine from the Best Buy down the street?

hey azn dude... ok ok you like sony better we all get it.. please go to the avs forums for some knowledge on HD not the Sony marketing stuff. Did you know that HDMI up to a couple of months ago did not have the bandwith to handle 1080p? so these 1080p TVs you listed UPCONVERT all signals to the 1080p signal setting. Even the sony sxrd 1080p TVs up converted the sources to 1080p. So in your reasoning the top of the line (awesomely beautiful) Sony SXRD is not true HD? See how much of a fool you sound? Thank you

Sony, last guy in the Pub to meet his "so-called" mates Microsoft and Nintendo who are already through a good few pints of Oblivion and Dead Rising for Microsoft or a few nips of Zelda and Mario for the Wii (keeping in mind he is older but does know a few new tricks)

So Sony strides in and everyone in Pub knows him and this third week he's out, last week everyone loved him by performing the kareoke so well with such hits as the GTA medely or the Gran Turismo.

But this week he's drinking out of a vase, MS and Wii put down their glasses shoutin " hey man thats not what you drink out of", Sony says "hey it's this new thing called 'Blu-Ray'?"
