Well played, Joystiq!

Seriously, what is going on with Sony? They're just not doing anything right anymore. Every move they make just reeks of ineptitude and they're squandering the PlayStation brand. They're gonna need a Steve Jobsian overhaul at this point.

In short, worst bundle ever.

I second #3's comments. PSP is a piece of hardware lacking identity. By trying to be a little of everything, it has really amassed to a whole lot of nothing. This bundle exemplifies this fundamental failure and everything wrong with the PSP. Nobody cares that it plays MP3s, Sony-only memory sticks or those insufferable UMDs, but they sure do notice how there's no fun to be had on the system, unless you enjoy portables with long load times. DS Lite FTW (or has it already won?).

Yet another example of Sony fucking itself in the ass. Things are looking grim. On the plus side, if they make a documentary reviewing all the bad moves Sony has made since they first revealed the PS3, it would make a great documentary. Lets just hope they dont sell the rights to it to M$. :p

If the PSP came with a bundle of sticks, I would buy it simply so I could use the bundle of sticks to light it on fire.

But all trolling aside, this is exactly why the loss leader approach is failing and biting Sony in the ass. They're taking even MORE of a loss to get the PSP into people's hands and sacrificing attachment sales while doing it.

When you start bundling things, it gives people less incentive to buy more (attachment sales). This could spell the end of days for the PSP.

Maybe they aren't including media manager because they want people to utilize their download service when it comes out (or the PS3 will have a utility to convert discs) and including a memory card is more critical to pushing the success of the download service.

Secondly, the argument that the PSP doesn't have any titles may have been true before July, but there have been several good titles released or being released in the next month.

If you don't like the system, that's fine, but to complain about every little Sony rumor is just getting ridiculous. The fact of the matter is that Sony is the only console maker that generates this much responses, negative or positive. Sony is going to push PSP sales this holiday with software enhancements instead of a price drop, that's their strategy even if you don't agree with it.

Man, those PSP ads are so annoying. They're the pinnacle of marketing suits thinking "I know, the kids these days, they like "random" "irreverant" stuff! We'll make an ad that's convoluted and insulting to someone's intelligence! That'll hook 'em!"

At least this particular ad is actually talking about the the damn product can do, which is better than the more animated looking ones about squirrells or whatever.

Wtf at that ad. It doesn't make me want a psp at all it makes me want to smack whoever came up with it.

I have to say bundling lords of dogtown and atv is pretty lame. I can't imagine many people will jump at buying this package.

I can understand why Sony keeps playing up the multimedia angle on the PSP. It's the only edge they have over the DS. I know people who have rationalized buying a PSP because of all the other things it can do. Fair enough.

Sony knows it can't compare with the DS' library, so they're playing to the PSP's strengths, targeting the people that the DS doesn't satisfy.

What a horrible ad. "Here, look at this PSP, get bored with it in two seconds, and throw it away!"

Their first ad campaign with the "Take me out" music and the people transforming into video game characters were so well done, too.

And WTF is that voice? Is that style of advertising big over there? A monotonous spaz speaking so unenthusiastically about a product. To me that says "Buy a PSP and get bored". AND THAT BLACK SCRIBBLY THING?! Utter rubbish. Then again what else should I expect from a company who cloned Selfridges adverts for their UK PSP adverts. Nothing.

lol Anyone that says the PSP isn't at a desireable price point does not know childsplay homebrew scene the PSP has. The only games I've bought was GTA:LCS and Lumines. Every other game has been a download and I have 20+ games.

When you buy a PSP you immediatly get your money back through all the free programs and games coming out for it. If you have enough common sense and $170 pick one up. With a 2-4 gb memory stick duo everything'll work out.

I can't wait until this fall when the PS1 emulation comes out and the homebrew scene hacks that. Then I'll have the PS1 emulation on-top of Sega Gensis, NES, SNES, GB, GBA and the other long lines of emulation included.

Damn, I HATE those commercials!

And PSP Core + this 2GB memory card = same price:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820191430

Or PSP Core + this 1GB memory card = $20 less:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820191419

This new bundle is a rip-off more than anything, because I don't think anyone would actually BUY this bundle for that game or movie.

I'm happy, though, because this means more DS sales, and more DS sales means more third party support for the portable system I wisely chose to buy.

I want to watch stuff & listen to music on the way to work, but I also want to play games. Anyone know anything that does all of these things good?

My DS with GBA Movie Player doesn't cut the mustard music or vid-wise & the PSPs games are a world of teh gaye.

I don't understand why Sony just won't pack in one of the better games with the PSP. Socom or Syphon Filter would be more interesting than that ATV trash. Keep the movie, UMD movies are a waste of time.

Eh, keep hating the PSP. Everyone did with the PS2 while Dreamcast was still in distribution. Everyone complained about the same thing they are now with the PSP - game / lack of games / identity crisis (DVD playback) etc. Fact is this:

NO OTHER NON-NINTENDO HANDHELD HAS BEEN ABLE TO REACH NUMBERS OR MARKET SHARE THE PSP HAS.

That is an impressive feat alone. In about a year and a half, when the PSP price drops below $200 then possibly below $150, I'm sure all those Sony haters will come around. You can hate my PSP all you want. I'm happy with my portable entertainment device - extremely happy. And I don't need to attack the Nintendo DS to enjoy it either.

That commercial is a direct insult to our intelligence. We should feel humilited. Sony is obviously shooting for the 10 - 14 age group with the "quality" scat joke at the end. They've already lost the 18-24 demographic.

Wait a minute... I get it now! Oh, that's pure genius!

"Well, what do you recommend, peon?"

"Sir! I think we should court 3rd party publishers to make better games, and then drop the price and bundle a great UMD movie and game with a system, sir!"

"...very well. From henceforth, I decree the PSP price be changed from $199 to $250. Further, let us bundle ATV Offroad Fury and Lords of Dogtown with the system. Make it so."

"... Sir... I...I quit. I'm going to work for Nintendo."

"VERY WELL. But I hope you know that, even though they will pay you more and you will be happier and people will actually buy your games and you won't be beholden to idiotic hubris-overflowing executives, you will be FORBIDDEN from playing the new PS3 Offroad Fu-"

OMG! You people are ridiculous! First off this news is as old as Moses. Where the hell have you been Joystiq? This was known at least 2 weeks ago.

I keep hearing the same old argument about how there is no good games. People, that was true a year ago after it had just come out but enough already. Just say you hate Sony and you hate the PSP. Don't try to justify your f-boy behavior. The first step to recovery is first admitting you have a problem. Admit it, you hate Sony because you are f-boys. I mean listen to yourselves, you are bashing a commercial for craps sake.

I love my PSP. I love the fact that you can do tons of stuff with it. I can play some sweet games on it. I can stream my itunes library from my home PC to it. I can watch movies, surf the web and write this post on it.

The only thing that sucks about it is the cost of the memory cards but they are starting to come down now. You people need to wake up, quit bashing Sony, competition is a good thing. Do you think Nintendo would have even come out with the DS when it did if not for Sony throwing it's hat into the ring? No. Imagine trying to say OMG! The Gameboy Advance kicks the PSP's butt!!

You all need to shut up and unless you have a PSP you have no right to say anything against it because you speak out of ignorance.

Sony is doing just fine with the PSP and it will be around for a long time. Considering how long Nintendo has had the portable market to itself, the PSP is doing quite well. Of course there will be those of you who say OMG the DS is killing the PSP!!!! But you are the same people who said the Xbox was doing very well considering Sony's ownage of the console market and that they had a head start. Well, so did the DS by 6 months.

You fools need to grow up.
