TGS: Koei to show *yawn* Wii Dynasty Warriors, PS3 concepts are *fingers crossed* more original
Koei has revealed plans to preview Sengoku Musou Wave (Dynasty Warriors) for Wii at Tokyo Game Show. So what's more tired than another "historical" hack n' slash sequel? How about a mahjong game based on a "historical" hack n' slash series? Yep, Koei will also be showing off a Sengoku Musou-themed mahjong title for PSP and DS.Thankfully, Koei's PlayStation 3 support deviates from the developer's norm -- at least, in three out of four games to be featured at TGS. Most notable, but unfortunately unplayable, is Ni-Oh, billed as an action game in which bodyguard monks must defend Buddha. Of course, Koei could be tossing this concept into the Sengoku Musou engine and churning out another Dynasty clone, in which case, Koei's non-brawler offerings fall to just two, an aerial combat racing game (Fatal Inertia) and *sigh* a mahjong game (Mahjong Contest IV). Don't worry Europe, you ain't missin' much.

I've never heard of the series, but you sound like you really dislike Koei for some reason.

I enjoy the DW games. They aren't for everyone, but implying that they're boring is a bit much. For a boring game series, it's sure sold like gangbusters.
And for the record, this would mark the first Wii title I am interested in.

*yawn* Wii Dynasty Warriors? Even if it's an old concept on the Wii it's not. Imagine slicing hundreds of people with different combos all with the Wiimote. I feel like that'll be the perfect game for Wii. That's what's cool about the system, even an ancient concept is new on the Wii.

I'm with the others; this is a title that makes me even more excited about the Wii. Every time a Dynasty Warriors game comes out, my wife and I spend a few weeks devouring it and unlocking everything there is to unlock while doling out the hurt with a satisfactory crunch I've not really gotten from other games. Hooray for Samurai Warriors 2 coming out this next week.
Side note: Notice how you can disagree with the tone of an article without telling Joystiq that they somehow suck. Sometimes people just disagree.

It freaks me out just to think about how they r gonna put a mahjong game in a blue-ray disc...
MahJong with HDR? Self Shadowing? Motion Blur?
Damn they must be some very clever guys to figure out how to fill those 30 Gigabytes:{

Does anyone else see that Battlestar Galactica "ad" on this site? THAT'S CRAP. It's set up to look like a "post" by the bloggers. I hate that deceptive crap, and Joystiq should let their advertisers know this garbage is not appreciated. I was going to start watching Battlestar, but not anymore. I can't believe this garbage.

Devs don't have to use Blu-Ray. They can put PS3 games on DVD, or really even CD if they want to.

I love dynasty warriors but if I have to even flick my wrist to attack in the game my arm will quit after a half hour of killing hundreds of enemies.

I like Dynasty Warriors. Sure it may be simple and a tad repetative, but there's something so satisfying and relaxing about just battling your way through an entire army to get to your objective. Who can honestly say that any other game allows for 1000 kills per level.
And who knows, the Wii may provide that refreshing change that everyone thinks the series will need! Despite what you all may think, I'll still be buying it when it comes out.

Is this Sengoku related to the old Neo Geo arcade game where you hit dudes with swords and steal their souls? I have memories of that game kicking ass!
Though most games that kicked ass when I was a kid turned out to suck ass when played as an adult so who knows...

I love Koei, they bring Disgaea over to the shores of England.
Also I happen to love the Dynasty Warrior games, for eh fact is you can easily kill... sorry Knockout over a 1000 soldiers. Not many games you can do that, well except Drakengard but its not as much fun or as much as rewarding as the fact is you have a Dragon.
And trust me, it relives anger veeeeery well.
And I beleive the Wii one will be even better for reliveing anger :D

To answer some earlier comments: it's Dynasty Warriors -Wii- and we all know how much JRW loves that console.
cringer8 @ Sep 12th 2006 5:24PM
Wow, it only took 12 posts before someone made a comment about their arm getting too tired to move.
It still makes me laugh to picture how *fat* your arm would have to be to get tired playing the Wii. Hell, I haven't exercised in years and yet I went out the other day and played four hours of real-life tennis. Amazingly, I could still hold up a remote control when I got home. Imagine that.
Vic @ Sep 12th 2006 5:29PM
No, KOEI is not bringing dynasty warriors to Wii (yet?).
Sengoku Musou is actually Samurai Warriors, Sangoku Musou is Dynasty Warriors.

I remember the good ole' days when Koei made turn based strategy games. I loved Liberty Or Death, the PTO series,Romance Of The Three Kingdoms, and Ghengis Khan. I don't think I've bought a Koei game since the SNES days. If they'd put some of those games on the virtual console I'd probably buy them. I wish they would make a turn based strategy game with the battles real time.

It is a well known fact that masturbating 8 times a day will improve your Wiimote skills.
It's also the best excuse you have if you get caught by your mum!
justchris @ Sep 12th 2006 9:33PM
@shoop008, Koei still makes Romance of the Three Kingdoms, they're up to 8 or 9 now.
And I like Dynasty Warriors and all, but unless this one *finally* has 4 player support, I'm not buying. I can wait for Kessen instead.
Crazylink @ Sep 12th 2006 9:39PM
I'd rather have a new Mystic Heros for the wii.

Marketing coup! Sony announce 12 month next-gen Mahjong exclusivity deal!
