Why do so many people think that it'll launch with more than one controller, a classic controller, bundled games, *and* the kitchen sink?

Gozan - HAHAHAHAhahahahaAHAHhaahhahahaa. So true. It would make a bit of sense though! Factor 5 were big players on the Amiga (Turrican beating Samus in the face) and with their [tenuous] links with Nintendo now... Gah. I gotta shuttup. The possibility of playing the Amiga R-Type 2, BC Kid and Turrican has me fucking chuffed.

http://www.joystiq.com/2006/09/13/psa-nintendos-international-press-event-schedules/

It said that the Japanese event started half an hour ago. I don't see any signs anywhere of that being the case. It'd seem that the source was mistaken, or that nobody in the entire USA has any press people in Japan right now.

WTF?

Joystiq, Kotaku, and IGN have no mention of the event going on in Japan as we speak. They all post the most ridiculous rumors that come from Miyamoto's dog and they can't make a post about their intentions on getting us information from tonight's conference. If it's not possible just let us know.

Hey Joystiq, how about putting this up as a poll for the readers to vote on? Just put your guesses up and let us choose the date/price we think is most likely? It'd be interesting to see how close the collective readership is to the actual numbers.

@word #81$

"1 controler ["freehand" only, no nunchuck, no "classic"]...
Why one "freehand" controller only? Because it is the cleanest, simplest, fastest route to getting the system up and running in the non-gamer's home."

Good thinking... but Nintendo confirmed months ago that EVERY remote will come with a nunchuk. That's why everyone is including at least one nunchuk in their bundle.

@Jonn #104

"Why do so many people think that it'll launch with more than one controller, a classic controller, bundled games, *and* the kitchen sink?"

More than one controller - Nintendo is emphasizing the multiplayer aspect of the console. They even named it after it. So they should include more than one controller so people can play out of the box.

Bundle games - specifically Wii Sports - Wii Sports introduces the controller and gets multiplayer fun out-of-the-box. It would be a perfect pack-in.

Classic controller - used for Virtual Console, a main feature of the Wii. I personally don't expect it to be in the retail package, but sold for cheap, $14.99.

I hope the Wii is $300. Maybe then I'd have a chance at buying one.

They're going to be 500 or more on ebay throughout 2006 no matter what they cost. So the higher the cost, the better. For now at least

Since we're looking at not getting any info from Japan for a while, I'll throw in my guesses.

Price: $199.99
Package: Wii, 2 Wiimotes+Nunchuks, Wii Sports
Colors: Black & White a launch, with red & blue Wiimotes available also.
Release: November 5 US, probably 2 weeks earlier Japan.
Other announcements:
-Final details on WiiConnect24 and online service.
-Update of online APIs for 3rd parties so they can include online play before release.
-Profile system linked with online play, online downloads and parental controls.
-About 35-40 VC games (including previously unannounced 3rd party games) with more to be released weekly (around 5 a week).
-NES games $.99, SNES, Genesis & TG16 games $2.99, n64 games $4.99. New VC games between $4.99 & $9.99.
-Two (2) previously unannounced games for launch, both for VC, both brand new.
-Adapter to play VC games on your DS.
-Ability to play VC games from SD Card on a friend's Wii, but cannot copy them from SD Card to Wii, only the opposite way.
-Confirmed launch titles. Zelda:TP still confirmed for launch, Metroid Prime 3 delayed until December.
-4 new games announced for 2007. Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Brain Games & a brand new IP.

Quoted from above: "The controllers charge themselves everytime you move them!"

You know, I really love this idea. I just was given a watch that does the same thing, and while I think its unlikely that Nintendo will include this, it really is a great idea.

Zertoss: $199 today is cheaper than $199 in 1985. Counting inflation, if it launches at $199, it will be the cheapest Nintendo ever. My prediction: it will. With 1 controller (we already know it includes the nunchuck thing). I doubt there'll be a pack-in game, but it might include a coupon for a VC download. Many retailers will try to bundle it with Zelda, however, mark my words. Here's the kicker though: judging by Nintendo's recent marketing and design efforts, I think they're going to pull an Apple and ship the same day of the announcement. I remain unconvinced that that will necessarily happen tomorrow though.

I have two dreams for a megaton, neither of which will happen:
1) Their amazing slotload drive reads GDROMs and plays Dreamcast games, and Sega will start reprinting Greatest Hits DC games for the occasion;
2) They will release Play-Yan worldwide and update the firmware so that it allows transfer and play of VC games on the DS. And maybe even NES and Genesis titles on GBA.

I can dream, eh? My real suspicion for the megaton is more along the lines of "microphone in the controller" or "Gameboy games on VC" or even "yay! more developer support!" (Square maybe? They certainly love the DS...) A hobbyist developer program a la Microsoft's new X360 one would be nice, especially if somebody decides to write a third-party home media streaming program to take advantage of that WiFi and remote control.

Remember: One controller. No pack-in game. No free SD card (512mb inside). Opera built in. But that magic $199 price point is damn cheap in 2006, ya'll.
