New Tri-Ace RPG for Xbox 360 undiscovered

New information leaping from the obscenely colorful pages of Famitsu reveals a brand new Tri-Ace RPG for the Xbox 360 -- the uncomfortably named Infinite Undiscovery. Widely known for in-your-face epics, Star Ocean and Valkyrie Profile, the Japanese developer has released little information regarding the fantasy title thus far, with GAF mentioning real-time battles and support for online play. While the game is unlikely to have any relation to last year's smash hit, Everlingering Nonemergence*, it is very much an important coup in Microsoft's continuing battle against apathy in Japan.
* This game has not been proven to exist in any shape or form.

More RPG's on the 360 makes me happy in the pants.
FSK405K @ Sep 13th 2006 3:08PM
Am I missing something? We learn about a new game for the 360, which sells like 100 systems per month in Japan, in Famitsu?
JodyAnthony @ Sep 13th 2006 3:19PM
anything by tri-Ace makes me happy in the pants.
ymmv @ Sep 13th 2006 3:19PM
There are a surprising number of Japanese games coming out for the 360 despite the lacklustre sales. For instance, Namco Bandai has four games planned: Culdcept Saga (Card RPG), Mobile Suit Gundam: Operation: Troy, Idol Master, and Trusty Bell (RPG). Sega, Capcom, Square Enix, Konami, Koei, etc. will all be releasing new games for the 360.

C'mon, give some credit...that's 1000 a week...50K a year! JRPGs should get at least 50% attach rate there, so that's like 25K units sold. Why, that'd recoupe at least 10% of production costs. :D
kftgr @ Sep 13th 2006 3:29PM
Seriously, their plans might just be to get profits from localizing and taking advantage of the US & European installed base. Remeber that lone-fish small pond concept with Enchanted Arms? Might be better than vying for customers in the crowded PS2 field.
That, and with HD art/voice/music assets already done, the porting to PS3 later would still be a good profit making option.
Kendrick @ Sep 13th 2006 3:29PM
I don't feel that this news is relevant to me unless Microsoft sees fit to release these titles in the western markets. I was really looking forward to Shin Megami Tensei, but there's no word that this will ever get localized for Europe or the States. If Microsoft isn't willing to speak to my gaming interests, I'll have that much more money to spend on their competition.
FSK405K @ Sep 13th 2006 3:39PM
Kendrick,
I wonder how possible it will be to fan-translate something like this....I mean, Earthbound Zero eventually came to the US, and all the Dragon Warriors / Final Fantasies, so perhaps.....?
Jimmy @ Sep 13th 2006 3:40PM
Considering that Tri-Ace often — if not always — sees their games released in the west and there is likely no reason to release a 360 exclusive (if this will remain as such) in Japan only, we will probably be playing this some day.
aZn_1080p @ Sep 13th 2006 3:48PM
I predict this game will be cancelled for 1.5 and come out for PS3 and wii instead, since there is no meaningfull 1.5 install base in JApan.
hohoho @ Sep 13th 2006 3:47PM
ms is rumoured to be releasing an "internal HD-DVD" x360.

playback movie only? or for games as well? fingers crossed.
Enjoy. :D
Ludwig Kietzmann @ Sep 13th 2006 3:55PM
Umm, Kendrick, Atlus USA has been localizing and publishing Shin Megami Tensei games for quite a while now. The series has also made it to Europe as "Lucifer's Call." :)
Jose @ Sep 13th 2006 4:12PM
Hopefully this isn't another TFLO situation.
Shadow @ Sep 13th 2006 4:21PM
This is indeed exciting news, i really hope more jRPG's make it stateside. I am really enjoying Enchanted Arms.
Martin @ Sep 13th 2006 4:22PM
and the winner for most weird game name is Infinite Undiscovery

I predict you will continue to make lame comments on every post. One day while you're playing your PS3 laughing at all those folks who you think are suffering with their Xbox 1.5, I will be playing the absolute best games available because I will own the Xbox 1.5, GameCube Deluxe Wii, and PS2.5
doomx24@aol.com @ Sep 13th 2006 4:36PM
aZn_1080p ur a dumbass. 1.5 whatever. Have you ever played a 360? Some games look great and wait till Gears of War hits.

"Xbox 360 is 1.5, the PS3 is more than what I was expecting, so it's 3.5."
Yeah, you should probably name the PS3 the PS3.5 because it will launch so close to the PlayStation 4 that a 3.5 makes more sense than 3.
I remember Kazuo Hirai saying at E3 that, "the next generation doesn't start until we say it does!"…hrmmmm, so when would that be Kaz?
Does the next generation begin this November with 400,000 consoles in North America and one year old games like Fight Night Round 3? Oh, my bad, I forgot about Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiidge Raaaaaaaaacer!

I will never forget about the epic moment of "RIIIiiiiiiiiiiiidge RAAAAaaaacceeeeeerrr!!!"
This game sounds a good RPG. ^^ Lets wait to see...

did someone say "...massive damage"?
Jay @ Sep 13th 2006 6:19PM
Tri-Ace is a pretty big deal ... with the number of RPGs now announced for the system (Blue Dragon, Lost Oddyssey, etc), it will be more of a draw for Japanese gamers.
And, I can promise you this will be released over here -- other Japanese developers are taking note of the US and European sales that Capcom is racking up!
Ninegauger @ Sep 13th 2006 7:52PM
Is it just me or does the 360 actually have more announced RPGs. What's the PS3 got? Final Fantasy... which is probably enough for massive sales. Heck, they don't even have Dragon Quest nailed yet.
justchris @ Sep 13th 2006 9:42PM
Tri-Ace has been a trifle hit or miss lately. Star Ocean 3 was very disappointing, so I'll have to see more about this before I make a decision, but hopefully this will be my final incentive to buy a 360.
ExTester @ Sep 14th 2006 10:33AM
Its kinda of intersting if you think about it. Right now you have a lot of new IP coming to the 360's library. I mean Microsoft is stressing it, and helping them do it. The XBLA, XNA studios, simple development platform, and not to mention they have talked about it in their dev. talks. So really I see fresh ideas to the 360 platform.
With the PS3 so far everything is a sequel. I mean pretty much. Ridge Racer7, FF??(fill the blanks, i dont know nor care), MGS4, DMC4, KillZone2. And right now there is not much leadership being shown from Sony. I mean it just feels like its gonna be a sequel library on the PS3 side.
Granted that 360 is gonna have sequels like Halo3. And PS3 will have some new IP Resistance, though I wouldn't say its original cause its an obvious copy of Halo with some WW2 game. This all said, I just get the feeling of much more newer IP to the 360's library which is something to look forward to.

"I predict this game will be cancelled for 1.5 and come out for PS3 and wii instead, since there is no meaningfull 1.5 install base in JApan."
Right, so remind me what the installed base of the PS3 is right now? Oh yeah, there is no PS3 installed base cause the damn thing isn't out yet.
It's not bloody likely this will see the light of day on a Sony system since it appears it's being published by Microsoft Game Studios. Their games tend to stay exclusive to MS systems (Xbox, Xbox 360, Windows PC).
