Sam & Max on Wii? Telltale wants your help [update 1]
In a public forum post, Telltale Games employee Emily Morganti chronicled the rise in interest to have Sam & Max on the Wii, noting that ultimately they like the idea of putting the zany romp (our description, not theirs) on Nintendo's console. Unfortunately, Telltale needs Nintendo to notice them -- and as a small self-publishing developer, that's not easy to do.That's where we (Joystiq and its readers) come into play. Telltale thinks the Wiimote would be a perfect fit for its point-and-click Sam & Max, and we're inclined to agree. If you care enough to join the cause,
While you're at it, tell us: on what platform(s) would you like to see Sam & Max rear its ugly head?
[via 1UP]
[Update 1: Wow, that was quick. Emily over at Telltale has updated this particular blog entry:
"They took notice! We got a phone call from Nintendo this afternoon. We'll take it from here - please don't email them anymore!"
Well done, guys. Thanks JulianZ for alerting us.]

Contacted and done.
The controller on the Wii is perfect for this.

Done and done.

If they can get the point and click thing working great on the Wii, all power to them. Mac would also be fine, shouldn't take much to port given the Mac and PC are becoming closer and closer.
The 360 and PS3, however, probably a bad idea. They'd have to re-do the entire game to work on a control system not meant for it.
pandlcg @ Sep 15th 2006 5:37PM
I sent them an email

mmmmmmmmmmm Mac :n)
Dracula Jones @ Sep 15th 2006 5:40PM
Does anyone know why Telltale would need Nintendo to notice them? Can't they just get a dev kit and give it a go?
Well, regardless, I sent some feedback to Nintendo on this, because I would really love to play Sam & Max on the Wii.
While we're at it, let's all send Lucasarts some feedback telling them to publish their adventure game back catalog on Wii VC!
Jared @ Sep 15th 2006 5:41PM
Wouldn't mind the Wii, but if not, I'll still get the first episode from Gametap to see if it's even continuing.
Zertoss @ Sep 15th 2006 5:45PM
While I'm not familiar with Sam & Max (Freetime! Why hast thou forsaken me?!), I know many people are very fond of the duo, which is why I think it would be great for the series to appear in some good way, shape or form on every platform, handhelds too.
Keyword there is "good" BTW. ;)
Matt @ Sep 15th 2006 5:46PM
I am also curious as to why they can't just pick up a dev kit or contact a rep at Nintendo to get the ball rolling.
Kenofthedead @ Sep 15th 2006 5:47PM
I just want Point and Click games to come back.
SaintNoir @ Sep 15th 2006 5:53PM
Sam and Max on Wii would be great... I sent my email!
I really hope this happens.
otakucode @ Sep 15th 2006 5:57PM
The Wii devkit is under $2000 (it's some weird number like $1871) but I'm not sure if Nintendo does anything to 'verify' that a group is 'worthy' of purchasing one.
What I'd like to see is the classic Sam and Max games released on XBLA or through some digital delivery service (they're not putting the old ones on Steam too are they?) so I can give them a go... I missed them first time around.
Justin @ Sep 15th 2006 5:58PM
What is so damn special about Sam and Max. I've never heard about this game except on several posts on Joystiq. All I know is that it is episodic. Can someone explain?
xyz @ Sep 15th 2006 6:07PM
Where is DS option in this poll?
Brandon @ Sep 15th 2006 6:04PM
Yes, I too missed the original Sam & Max games. I was too busy playing Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, another LucasArts point and click adventure. It still stands as one of my top five games of all time and I play it through at least once a year. The puzzles in that game were so difficult when I was that young... The only other point and click I've played is Trace Memory for DS. That game was really good, better than reviews gave it credit.
Anyway, I put in an e-mail to Nintendo.
Ch3 @ Sep 15th 2006 6:05PM
I sent them this: "I (among many other gamers) consider Sam & Max to be one of the best, and funniest adventure games ever made. Now they are developing a sequel, and I think it would be a perfect addition to the already fantastic Wii lineup. Please consider sending Telltale Games a Wii Dev kit so they can bring their classic humour and excellent gameplay to your platform."
Vazel @ Sep 15th 2006 6:07PM
Yes! Yes! Oh God Yes!!!

@Justin
Sam and Max was a great adventure game put out by Lucas Arts in the mid-90s based on a great comic by Steve Purcell. It's definitelty worth doing a little Google research to find out more.
jonAgain @ Sep 15th 2006 6:05PM
Sam and Max was one of the best adventure games of all time. The genre is all but dead, so a new Sam and Max game is a great thing. If you don't know anything about Sam and Max, go to the telltale games website and read one of the comics.
AssemblyLineHuman @ Sep 15th 2006 6:17PM
"In fact, Heather brought up way back in January how great the Wii controller would be for an adventure game (of course, back then it was called the Revolution... what kind of a dumb name is that?)..."
I lol'd.
I'd like to see it on the Wii. They can bring it to the other platforms, too, if they want, but I don't really care. The only other platform on the list I'm planning on getting is the PS2, and I'd much prefer to get a Wii version of an adventure game over a PS2 version of the same game.
Korexz @ Sep 15th 2006 6:15PM
It is IMPERATIVE that this game come to the Wii... if you missed it back in the day boys and girls go find ScummVM and play this game.
Between this Indiana Jones and Day of the Tentacle these games were my early years of PC gaming. There was nothing like this on the NES/SNES so I had to go PC, and I stayed there for a while.
If Sam N Max can bring PC gamers back to the "dark"-console-"side" of life let it happen NOW!
Zardus @ Sep 17th 2006 9:34PM
Sent email. I'm just excited about Sam & Max, but also the possibility of getting it on the Wii encouraging more adventure games made for the thing.
Sub @ Sep 15th 2006 6:32PM
Oh God yes. The original Sam and Max game is one of the greatest games ever made. Here's the email I sent:
"Hello,
Im writing to inform you all that I would personally love to see the game Sam and Max by telltale games [http://www.telltalegames.com/home] on the Wii. Ive always loved Sam and Max and I feel the innovative controller would work perfectly with the game.
If the game were to be released on the Wii, I would buy it in an instant and would encourage all of my friends to do so too. Sam and Max has an immense cult following and has great, story driven humorous gameplay. It would be awesome to see such a series appear on the Wii. Thanks for taking the time to read this email"
rockintom99 @ Sep 15th 2006 6:36PM
Why the crap is there no DS button? A graphically reduced version for the DS would be beyond awesome.
Me @ Sep 15th 2006 6:49PM
All you have to do is check out the poll results on this site and you can see this is mainly a Nintendo fanboy site. Also, no i don't care about sam and max !!
Kenofthedead @ Sep 15th 2006 7:27PM
Or perhaps people know that Point and Click doesn't work to well on console controlers like the 360's?
It's the same reason RTS never took off on consoles either.
Banjo4321 @ Sep 15th 2006 8:02PM
I fully support this cause. Sam and Max (or any adventure game) would be great on the Wii.
Sub @ Sep 15th 2006 8:34PM
Good to hear Nintendo responded to them.
Nick @ Sep 16th 2006 12:50AM
I voted. Mac would be nice, but as a console gamer, I chose the Wii.
EvilCat @ Sep 16th 2006 12:34AM
Good to hear Nintendo got the message. Now, all we need to get LucasArts to make a new "Monkey Island" and comidic games will finally be making a comeback.
GameBoiPA @ Sep 16th 2006 6:51AM
I had to create a comic while on their site:
http://www.telltalegames.com/samandmax/comics/8672251
(Maybe we can put this in the running for best web comic of the week. ;) )
Enjoy!
martinj88 @ Sep 16th 2006 8:07AM
Woo......now all we need is Warcraft 3 and starcraft for the Wii....
lets start a petition for that as well
nick @ Sep 16th 2006 1:48PM
Has there ever been any poll on Joystiq that included Nintendo that has not been in Nintendo's favor?
Eric Baker @ Sep 18th 2006 7:23AM
Sam & Max? Puh-lease. Zzzzz. One of the all-time snooze-fests.
Telltale: Find something else to do, something ORIGINAL.
