Seaman 2 unearthed for Japanese PS2 owners
Half-man. Half- ... well, this time he's just a man, albeit a very tiny one.Sega announced today a sequel to its off-beat Dreamcast pet simulator Seaman. Instead of a talking man-fish, Moscow scientists have brought to life miniature Neanderthals from the prehistoric ages. 1UP has the scoop and more details on the game's storyline.
Seaman 2 will make its Japanese debut next year on the PlayStation 2 -- there is no word yet on a U.S. release. The game features a unique controller with built-in microphone so that you can communicate with your little buddy.
Will the custom PS2 controller be compatible with the PlayStation 3, or will this game require us to keep the current-gen Sony console lying around?

Sony doesn't seem to care about compatibility with DDR dance matts and Guitar Hero controllers, so they probably aren't going to care about this game either.

Damn!!!! I was hoping this came to Wii.
Tsk Tsk

YAAAAAAAAA SEAMAN!!!!
I own the orginal for DC. Stills itting on my shelf. Never got past the fish stage of evolution.
Zachary @ Sep 15th 2006 3:10PM
Now how about we get the first one for DS? I've been wanting to play that again for awhile and I still have my DC and my copy of Seaman but no microphone :(

Another retarted decision from Sega.
Especially since I have 2 Xbox Live headsets lying around, waiting to be used. And so do alot of other MS console owners.
It seemed natural, but obviously Sega screwed the pooch again.
Honestly - how is Sega still in buisness?
JodyAnthony @ Sep 15th 2006 3:36PM
diskoboy, retarted as in once again dressed up like a hooker, or retarted as in once again baked into a pie-like treat?
pandafresh @ Sep 15th 2006 4:03PM
oh man Sega is SO RETARDED! i mean why dont they release this on xbox, even though for now its a japanese only game, and theres about 10 xboxes sold every month in japan. That'd make so much money! All 12 japanese xbox owners could buy it! BTW The Guitar Hero people said that the controllerse were going to be compatible with the ps3, so yea. Im pretty sure the article was on Joystiq awhile ago
Kendrick @ Sep 15th 2006 4:08PM
I'm actually really psyched about that controller. First time we'll have a decent Genesis-styled six-button layout on a third-party peripheral. If that analog stick indicates dualshock compatibility, I'll buy the import game just to have the pad.

#6 - Like riding the short bus retarted.
The DS or Xbox seemes more like an obvious choice than the PS2. If Sega wants to waste money designing a controller when the DS has a mic already built in, or MS console owners can just use their XBL headsets.
I don't understand Sega's logic.
n8dogg @ Sep 15th 2006 5:16PM
Um... I have a Sony official PS2 brand headset sitting right here on my desk. MGS3?
JodyAnthony @ Sep 15th 2006 5:21PM
diskoboy..I know what you meant. I was just poking fun at your spelling error, you retart.
Jason @ Sep 15th 2006 5:53PM
#9, I'm not defending Sega, but in Japan there are MILLIONS of PS2s and what, under 500k xboxes? Although I was really hoping for a DS version...
Spudnick @ Sep 15th 2006 6:50PM
had the first one for my dreamcast, it was a very different gaming experience
Jestek @ Sep 15th 2006 7:11PM
Yes! I hope Leonard Nimoy narrarates this one too. I would much rather it on another system though...
Yami @ Sep 15th 2006 7:16PM
Is it me, or would that controller kick ass for Street Fighter?
6 button layout for the win.
Angelo @ Sep 16th 2006 2:15AM
No offense to anyone in this thread, but Playstation 2 makes for the obvious choice here because of its gargantuan installed base. As popular as (I think) it was in Japan, I don't think it'd be a system seller for anyone, Microsoft or otherwise.
Although on the portable side of things, DS seems like a very good fit.
Kristian @ Sep 16th 2006 4:10AM
Although I like the touch screen idea with Seaman 2 it just seems a lot more fitting for Seaman 2 to be graphically better than the original (Which was pretty decent on DC anyway) ... so I think the PSP would be a good direction to go as well, since Sega seems to favor Sony lately.
bob @ Sep 16th 2006 9:17PM
yeah retarded cuz sega wants to gimp itself by releasing a game on the bombed 360 or water it down so badly so it could barely run on the outdated DS platform....now THAT'LL do seaman justice!
*rollseyes*
hey, while they're at it, might as well give 360 exclusivity to shenmue 3! lord knows that shenmue 2 exclusive on xflop1 really gave the franchise much needed sales!!!!
(/end sarcasm)

This is a joke right? Because I see no way this can possiblely be real.

for all of your info, seaman was re-released on PS2 and you got the new controller for that one, its the same controller that will be used in Seaman 2. also with the PS2 edition, there were new environments, killed the bug cage, but added a jungle where you had to hunt your own bugs, had a new evolution for seaman, which was where be looked like an iguana, and the voice recognition was a lot better. probably had new dialogue and stuff for the PS2 release. but i agree that sega is stupid. sega sadly did not take the ps2 version of seaman. it was a company called ascii, they mostly dealt with making hardware but took a short break to make software, they are also the ones who designed the new controller aka. the SeaMic. there are actually 3 ways to play the game, with the headset, the SeaMic, and the SeaMic - Original, i actually just imported Seaman for ps2 off ebay, i need to get me a Japanese PS2 now to actually see what its like, as well as learn japanese. since its only japanese dialogue. oh yeah, the textures for seaman, dont look like rendered scales anymore, they actually look like scales. it has real texture, and he probably move more realistically as well.
