Does anyone else find it ironic that American McGee is in China working for "a company which seeks to provide outsourced art and production elements to game companies"

It should be noted that some of this is due to trademark law. The was a board game called Civilization, which MicroProse tried to license from Avalon Hill but was turned down. So, it became Sid Meier's Civilization so it could be trademarked (and avoid lawsuits).

American McGee's Alice was possibly done for branding, I suppose, but you can't trademark "Alice" due to common usage. But you can American McGee's Alice. This is why Microsoft makes Microsoft Word, Microsoft Golf, etc. You can't trademark "Word;" Microsoft Word, you bet.

He's a shameless. He sells his name to the highest bidder, makes agreements with publishers and developers to create games at rock bottom prices, then releases the buggy, crappily designed "American Mcgee" stinkware to the an unknowing public. Thank God for review.

He currently has fled to China to escape the growing disgust that most legitimate investors have finally come to realize about this loser. This way he can make games even cheaper and not have to converse with those that loathe him.

I remember when he announced Scrapland. I was genuinely excited about the title and bought it for the xbox at full price despite the negative reviews. I thought, well, gee it has the American McGee name on it, he did some Doom and I really, really loved Alice and it will probably just be eccentric, but really inventive. I thought WOW Scrapland robots made from scrap metal that will be so cool, like the Robots game on acid.

Well, we all know how that turned out. Scrapland was a stinker. Not that I think it was so terrible in its own right. It was just dull and repetitive. Clearly, a C effort.

But that is what killed me. It was nothing like his name indicated. If you are going to use your name like he did you would expect an eccentric, interesting game. But instead it was just mainstream blah.

I played the demo for Bad Day L.A. and that sealed if for me. A buggy, disorganized mess of a game. The humour was absolutely assinine.

So, I am glad American McGee is buried in China. He needs to stay there.

He's a joke living off one decent thing from the past. The fact that he made the most controversial comment he could think of ("the Wii is the only next gen console") just as his new P.O.S. game came out in a feeble effort to get publicity was pretty pathetic.

Oh - and that hat looks retarded.

its not about how much he has contributed, but what. Sid Meier, Will Wright... they brought a special vision to games and their name identifies that.

American McGee obviously has brought something unique and special to gaming with Alice alone. By hearing his name you know what to expect to an extent. He created the vision as opposed to the bottom line driven big company game developers.

I say using his name is fine and I cant wait to play Bad Day LA
