Tempest
I'm not wearing out my center button just so I can play tempest (or any other shooters) on my iPod.
Something old-school like Activision's "Kabooom!" for the atari 2600 would be nice though. All scroll-wheel action with minimal button pressing.

Tempest would work pefectly. So would Warlords. Not sure about Marble Madness with a scroll wheel though.
strider_mt2k @ Sep 17th 2006 10:34AM
I personally despise iPods, but three cheers for Lunar Lander!!
I adored it for Palm OS.

No, no, you got it all wrong. We need some kind of music game, only you use your own music instead of whatever the developers provide.
kenada @ Sep 17th 2006 10:45AM
Amen to number 10!
rhork. @ Sep 17th 2006 11:11AM
between tempest and asteroids... I'd be set. Now, if I actually owned an Ipod. ...
Miharu @ Sep 17th 2006 11:43AM
Puzzle Bobble would work perfectly. Just like the parachute game included with iPods. Other than that, well... iPod isn't really made for games, if you wanted a racing game how could you press accelerate and break, accelerate would have to be automatic and maybe press center button for break.

I'd love to play these games on my iPod, if every iPod I had wasn't broken or in need of a $100 battery replacement.
iPod=shitty electronic device that sells wells because it's "hip and cool"

Arkanoid!

I'd like to see Rampart as an option. I'd most like to see it for DS, actually, but an iPod version would be pretty good.

Tempest
Asteroids
Chess
All on iPodlinux. As for Bomberman, yea we got an NES emulator too.

"iPod=shitty electronic device that sells wells because it's "hip and cool""
Wow. Troll much? I've used the hell out of my 60GB iPod Photo for the last 2 years straight and haven't had any problems with it AT ALL.
I'm disappointed that there still isn't a wide-screen iPod yet, but bumping up the hard drive and adding games is making me jones big-time for an 80 gigger.

DOOM.
(I just realized that writing DOOM is like writing PLAYSTATION 3)
bv @ Sep 17th 2006 1:52PM
steel batallion or world of warcraft would be really easy to port i bet.
nate @ Sep 17th 2006 2:21PM
anyone else linking the scroll wheel to the intellivision controller? how about some good old fashioned lock'n'chase action or some donkey kong.

Electronicat -
dsub is dead on here. The ipod has been consistently beaten in terms of price, features, battery life (not to mention problems with itunes and DRM)...usually all at once. The Rio Karma, many of Creative's lineup, etc. etc. Apple just pulled off a marketing triumph, not an engineering one.
That being said, the intersection between DAPs and games is just begging to be dealt with properly. The ipod isn't situated to handle this. I think it would make sense for Nintendo to push a DAP that had every NES game pre-loaded on there. For, say, 300-400 bucks. This wouldn't be hard to do - if they don't have the ROMs sitting around, Nintendo could get them online, do a little self-piracy...and wouldn't that get purchased in huge numbers? I don't know why this hasn't happened already.

1. Rez! Trippy music games seem like the right image for an iPod.
2. Breakout! The scroll wheel is ideal for controlling a paddle.
3. Puppy simulator! Nintendogs sold 7 million on the DS. 7 million! Think about that.

I'm not trolling, I'm just expressing my opinion. I've owned an original iPod, an iPod mini, and an iPod nano. The original iPod's batteries died, and apple said I needed to replace them for $99 (it even says in the manual that they are only good for around 100 charge cycles and that they are not covered by the warranty) and the iPod mini and nano charge, and turn on, only to display an image of an iPod with a sad face. What the hell is that? Both of them broke literally right around 1 year after purchase, thus, my warranty had expired, and they need to be sent in and paid to be repaired by apple, which is a bit pointless because after the repair costs and shipping I may as well just get a new one. My girlfriend owns a mini also, which had battery issues as well.
Perhaps the newer iPod's are better in quality, but I won't take the chance. I went out an iPod shuffle mp3 player for listening to music and it's still running strong, that's the only good thing I can say about iPods. I have no real use for an iPod that plays movies or displays photos, as I'd rather just use my portable DVD player.

SNOOD!!!!!!!!

its been on the ipod since day one!

Would Bomberman really be all that great, though, unless there was some device linking two iPods? As everyone who played the game knows, Bomberman truly shines as a multiplayer game.
Know what I think would be absolutely incredible for the iPod? An mp3 variant of Vib Ribbon. Think, it builds tracks based on what mp3s you have in your iPod. Tell me that's not a recipe for unmitigated awesome. We could even bring back Laugh & Peace for new songs built specially for the game.

Perfect iPod game idea....STEPMANIA
I mean, I already have all the MP3s, just add the .sm file
BIGGEN @ Sep 17th 2006 7:35PM
who cares? is that a game?
cringer8 @ Sep 17th 2006 8:42PM
How would a racing game make sense? Sure, steering would be easy, but how would you handle acceleration and braking while steering? You couldn't.
Give me Centipede.
diskoboy @ Sep 17th 2006 9:45PM
Bust-A-Move, OutRun, and Gyruss.
Sander Scamper @ Sep 17th 2006 9:54PM
I think stepping on your iPod is a dumb idea...(kidding, I know what you mean).
Evan @ Sep 17th 2006 10:02PM
@21
Let me re-phrase that. A full-featured, graphically advanced, evolution of Breakout.
Pat @ Sep 18th 2006 2:19AM
Evan......Breakout is included on iPods already.
Anyway, I'd like to see some shoot-em ups (even basic ones like Centipede and a bunch of other Atari games).
Infielder6 @ Sep 18th 2006 8:44AM
I was sure someone would have said ROADDDDDDD RUNNNNER, by now.. but anyways.. what I would like to see is some more games for my ipod Nano.. apparently the new ones are only for 5th gen ipods :(
Bigcake @ Sep 18th 2006 11:09AM
Dragon's Lair!
Enri @ Sep 18th 2006 11:13AM
Agree! DL and all the other laser disc should work perfectly on the Ipod even the control system.
Dude this is a true Killer Apps!

I pointed you to this link before - I think you just like to complain about ipods more than actually wanting to fix yours:

It's only like $15 for a new battery!
