Video: New Zelda: Twilight Princess Wii trailer
In addition to announcing a Wii launch date and price this week, Nintendo unveiled a new Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii) trailer. The game -- arguably the most anticipated launch title for the next-gen platform -- features motion-sensing controls and updated visuals adapted from the originally planned GameCube title. Those wanting to play the the old directional pad way will have to wait even longer, however; Nintendo has delayed the Cube's version until December 11.

where is the rest of the video! Every site has the same footage...was the video given to IGN, Gamespot, and 1up (Gamevideos.com) that way? The music is all right....would have liked some new orchestrated trailer...or a new trailer with same music...I don't know.

It`s ok i guess ...

Ok how the hell are we supposed to control the camera on the Wii Version? In all the other (post N64) zelda games if the camera got in the way we would use the C stick/buttons (Wouldn't we? or am I mistaken) the wii version does not have this functionality.
Neoxkc @ Sep 17th 2006 2:28AM
The C-Buttons were used for items, I don't recall what controlled the camera in the Zleda 64 games.
SID SPACE @ Sep 17th 2006 2:33AM
Neoxkc:
There was no was to control the camera in the 64 Zelda games. You could only re-center the view behind Link with the "Z" button.
I'm guessing the Wii version of TP could use this same method.
William @ Sep 17th 2006 2:44AM
That trailer looks unbelievably amazing. This game could be phenomenal and just like... omfg perfect. I only hope they include a BIG storyline in it that is deep because deep gameplay sucks without a deep plot. I'm hopin for even more cutscreens like in Ocarnia of Time when Zelda is carried away from Hyrule by Ganon, Temple of Time and more. Its just Ocarnia's storyline and cutscreens were only in the beginning, middle, and end, so there were HUGE gaps of just dungeoning. I hope Twilight Princess has story inbetween the beginning and middle and middle and end. Then I swear I'll love Nintendo for evverrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
BYAHHH! @ Sep 17th 2006 2:45AM
Probably by holding a button and moving one of the controllers around or something, i'm not sure.
Does anybody else see the irony here? It seems that Joystiq has been bashing IGN for quite a while but yet they still choose to use their videos on this site. It wouldn't hurt to just go ahead and buy the official media from Nintendo's press website. ( http://press.nintendo.com/ )
Intellectualdiot @ Sep 17th 2006 2:45AM
You know, that's actually a good question - one that would someone might reasonably expect to have been covered by at least ONE of the numerous of previews already dealing with the Wii version of this game. Yet here we are, and this is honestly the first I've considered that apparent problem.
But honestly, I'm none too concerned about the camera. I'm more concerned about the potential unnecessary butchering that the swordplay could recieve. I'm hoping dearly that Nintendo doesn't mess this up, and the early response seems a bit more subdued than I'm really comfortable with. Of course, I gather a lot of that has to do with the fact that the animations are essentially button presses mapped onto gestures - notably the same, much maligned, standard that from Red Steel. Hopefully it manages to be more robust than this in the final version, though I'm certainly that the late inclusion essentiall guarantees it wil be at least somewhat gimmicky.
Provided the rest of the title is pure, unadultered classic Zelda quality though, I'll absolve Nintendo of their sins.
Neoxkc @ Sep 17th 2006 2:51AM
Yeah, I figured the reason I couldn't recall was there was no way to move the camera, but I didn't want to just come out and say, "You couldn't move the camera, YOU ARE TEH n00b!" or anything like that. Maybe the camera isn't a problem, maybe it doesn't get stuck in crazy places. That might be why no one has brought it up in any of the previews.
Dan @ Sep 17th 2006 2:57AM
As much as I liked the trailer, righty Link still troubles me. Until I heard about the change, I was fairly confident that either we lefties would be taken care of by Wii developers, or that at least left-handed wouldn't be too difficult to adapt to. But I've yet to get an answer to this question: if the hand you play with matching the character onscreen doesn't matter, why the change in Link?
n8dogg @ Sep 17th 2006 3:05AM
I always wondered why Nintendo never added an option to choose which side was favored for Link. I'm pretty sure it can't be THAT difficult to program... especially considering how much developers have had to work on this.
Will @ Sep 17th 2006 3:08AM
That's right I forgot the C was Items in the N64 Zelda's (I got it mixed up with Mario 64). Windwaker let you loosely change the camera with the C didn't it? Though If Zelda 64 just used the Z button or whatever then I am sure they will do that with TP, I don't remember having any problems with Zelda OOT.
Will @ Sep 17th 2006 3:17AM
@ #12 Who says they didn't, Did they say there would be no left handed mode? That IGN article seemed very slanted, as if oh Nintendo hates lefties even though the entire point of the article was to say that they decided to change which hand link held the sword. Now I can see because of time constraints that they choose to make it Right handed only but you can still hold it left handed it will just won't look exact on the screen.
RayRay @ Sep 17th 2006 3:27AM
Sony's magazine says Okami is PS2's Zelda. Does anyone see the resemblance between playing as a wolf in Okami and playing as a wolf in Twilight Princess? Also I kind of thought Okami's graphics look similar to the Windwaker. Anyone else feel the same?
nootau @ Sep 17th 2006 3:35AM
Question: I thought the Wii version is graphically identical to the Gamecube version. This post states otherwise. Did something change? Did Nintendo actually enhance the graphics of the Wii version (outside of 480p and widescreen?)
Neoxkc @ Sep 17th 2006 3:37AM
@ Rayray
Yeah, I too get a similar vibe from Okami as far as the wolf thing. Not so sure about the graphics, similar, but different enough I would think. I like Okami's art style better than WW from what I've seen. Haven't checked in a while though.
Seroth @ Sep 17th 2006 3:42AM
Wow. The soundtrack to this game is going to be so epic! I love the music in this trailer.
Wolfkin @ Sep 17th 2006 3:45AM
First of I'm pretty sure it's been long established that there is no camrea control in LoZ:TP. I don't remember if there was any in 64 versions but concensus seems to be no.
Right-handed link is as bad to me as blond Samus. What's next skinny Mario and fat Luigi?
As far as graphics the Wii version hasn't been the same graphically as the cube version for a long time now. Since they decided to revamp the whole system to make it "Wii Friendly" might as well bump up the graphics as well.
T-Man @ Sep 17th 2006 4:04AM
"Those wanting to play the the old directional pad way will have to wait even longer"
No console zelda since LttP has used the d-pad. On the Wii version you still move link with the analog stick.
Dr Pill @ Sep 17th 2006 4:21AM
@ 7 : Yes, it was terrible how there were those big gaps between cutscenes in Ocarina of Time that Nintendo carelessly filled with actual gameplay. What barabarism! j/k. I'd like to see a more story driven Zelda with Twilight Princess, too, although that story doesn't necessarily have to be told with cutscenes. There are other ways delivering a compelling narrative.
And I, too, am hoping that Nintendo will either a) see fit to switch Link back to being a lefty in the interest of tradition or b) let you choose Link's handedness when you begin the game. I'm hoping for it, but I'm not really holding my breath here.
Will @ Sep 17th 2006 4:34AM
Look at the language in RayRay's post; could he be a Joystiq plant (Dun dun duuuuuuun!)?!
Joe @ Sep 17th 2006 4:44AM
Personally, I stopped watching any videos of this game a long time ago (last big thing I read about was the wolf thing), and the only information that I've read about the game (besides the simple right-handed change) was the hands on that IGN just posted with the new controls. I already know I'm buying this game, so to me theres no point in watching something that might give away a surprise.
Gabrian @ Sep 17th 2006 5:16AM
You WILL be able to chose wether you want Link to be right or left.
Dan @ Sep 17th 2006 5:31AM
#24, Do you have a source for that? That's seriously good news if it is the case.
jay cee @ Sep 17th 2006 5:47AM
it looks the same on both the gamecube and the wii so if they released them both on the same day there would be no reason to buy the wii one so it makes sense to do that
Insano @ Sep 17th 2006 6:14AM
"it looks the same on both the gamecube and the wii so if they released them both on the same day there would be no reason to buy the wii one so it makes sense to do that"
I'd like to know how you figure that one out.
If you had the choice between the gamecube version and the improved experience of the Wii version with widescreen and progressive, what would you want?
Stuff playing normal games now, I say.
V1L3 @ Sep 17th 2006 6:29AM
"Stuff playing normal games now, I say."
What's "normal," exactly?
If your definition of "normal" is any game that uses a regular controller, then you won't be playing any Virtual Console games or Super Smash Brothers Brawl, right?
Or if by "normal" you mean any game that doesn't use motion sensing, then that definition excludes any PS3 games that use the tilt functionality of the controller.
You must've HATED New Super Mario Brothers, due to its unforgiveable lack of stylus control.

I'm curious about the dragon though, one part shows a dragon carring Midna with Link nowhere in sight.. Perhaps Link learns an ability to turn himself into a dragon?
Fiona @ Sep 17th 2006 7:44AM
i never got into zelda but this trailer is getting me excited for it
Phil @ Sep 17th 2006 7:47AM
Hey joystiq, is it really okay for you guys to be kinda hotlinking the video from IGN like that?
-- @ Sep 17th 2006 7:51AM
Phil, exactly what I thought.
Loaf @ Sep 17th 2006 8:26AM
Does anyone know if you'll be able to use the Gamcube controller with the Wii version of the game?
Skipjimroo @ Sep 17th 2006 8:54AM
This is the Zelda title that Windwaker should always have been, screw the cartoon network, cell-shaded treatment we want teh photo realism! It also brings a tear to my masculine eye-balls to see Link himself back as the protoganist. I just can't wait till Ninty and the Wii willie winkie go the way of dreamcast and I can enjoy this and and other titles from the Nintendo franchise from the comfort of my PS3 while my butler swirls my glass of finest port while cutting me a cigar.
Ichidou @ Sep 17th 2006 9:02AM
Actually, the trailer was posted up on youtube, Joystiq is simply relaying it from that.
If you actually downloaded the video file, you'd notice some massive graphical differences.
dubdub57 @ Sep 17th 2006 9:26AM
To all those saying that there is no camera control: I am pretty sure at e3 that the camera was controlled by pressing Z, then moving the fairy cursor to rotate it. But then from a hands-on I read from the NYC event, it said that this had been removed. I have heard however that this was a completly revamped camera system so hopefuly there is little need for this.

Anyway I'm happy Nintendo finally released some new bits of Zelda.
BlackYoshi @ Sep 17th 2006 10:07AM
Right-handed link is as bad to me as blond Samus.
Shes been blonde since Super Metroid... In fact shes been blonde in more games than she was brunette.
flitzflatz @ Sep 17th 2006 10:14AM
I was at amiss as to why they delayed the GC version and then it hit me: It's because Nintendo doesn't want direct comparisons/sales between the GameCube version and the wii version.
The Wii version is going to be the same as the GC - prob. even graphic wise. Why have 15 different news sites proclaiming 'it's a great game, but it looks the same as GC but plays a little different with the Wii controller'? Have a stellar sales run for the Wii first, wait a month and when it hits the GC the comparisons won't make as much of a splash.
ejflex @ Sep 17th 2006 10:15AM
First off it's not a trailer.
It's just a bunch of new shots of the game.. second of all anyone who has been following Zelda closely has seen this days ago.
Exo @ Sep 17th 2006 10:25AM
Why doesnt it matter so much what hand link uses to hold a sword? If you are diehard enough to realize the diffrence then you must also know not every game has the same Link in it, he may be a decendent, but just becaue you are related to someone doesnt mean you use teh same hand, so stop bitching already.
also samus was only brunette in the first game, which simply could have been because of color pallete issues. just like mario has black hair now instead of brown
uchiha5 @ Sep 17th 2006 11:36AM
I have to agree with Exo on this one. just because he uses a hand doesn't mean anything because of the fact its a different link. Please correct me if Im wrong but wasn't the only game that had the same link as the last was Majoras Mask (OoT's Link). And Nintendo even confirmed that this Link just starts out as a simple farm boy. Besides I just realised he was left handed because of some argument people were having about it.
nick @ Sep 17th 2006 11:49AM
Graphically, it doesn't look next gen to me. It looks like anything the current Gamecube, Xbox, or PS2 is capable of doing.
Captain 8bit @ Sep 17th 2006 12:09PM
FYI:
The "up" C-button in Ocarina of Time was a "look," button which enabled you to control the camera from Link's perspective.
Alternately, pressing the Z targeting button when no targets were present would center the camera.
Ichidou @ Sep 17th 2006 12:46PM
Man, I am loving the music for this.
Anyone else think that this is a sneak-preview of the overworld theme similar to what Windwaker did?
I particularily like the part in the song where link hits a switch and magnetically attaches to the rock overhead. That particular part of the song was quite epic, methinks :P
FinalFan3 @ Sep 17th 2006 12:54PM
42. Graphically, it doesn't look next gen to me. It looks like anything the current Gamecube, Xbox, or PS2 is capable of doing.
Erm that's because it's a Gamecube game!! It's just ported to the Wii with new controls (and 480p and widescreen).
where2go @ Sep 17th 2006 12:56PM
"it doesn't look next gen to me"
Sorry I guess they forgot to spray everything down with water to make it shine like every other "next gen" game on 360. Personaly I don't like the look or style of next gen games. They just have too much bling.
vidGuy @ Sep 17th 2006 1:25PM
Right-handed versus left-handed: it's a different Link! Just like nearly every other Legend of Zelda game. Since the GC version has him left-handed, guess what? He's ambidextrous; no story-line problems at all.
Graphically, Nintendo had said there was going to be nothing new in the Wii version besides a widescreen viewing option. If that has changed, cool. But I'm not buying this game for graphics; I'm buying it for the gameplay and 75-100 hours of gametime. OoT is still my most played game in terms of time, I only played FF7 anywhere close to OoT, and now I'll have a replacement for that.
Regarding camera control: all you need in LoZ is to to be able to recenter the camera behind Link and use first person view mode. These are available = no problems.
socrates @ Sep 17th 2006 2:22PM
Looks cool enough - although I hope those aren't the final sounds that play during his sword attacks when he was fighting the armored knight. Those sounded awful.
jc @ Sep 17th 2006 2:30PM
Its been... what? 10 years since a real Zelda? That cartoony one didnt count.
I cant wait to play Twilight Princess.
Steve @ Sep 17th 2006 3:01PM
So many of you losers are clearly younger than 13. I mean "real Zelda", "cartoon network cell shaded crap"? Wind Waker was one of the most beautiful games last gen, and the narrative was FAR from "kiddy". In fact, if any of you kiddies managed to reach the end of the game, its narrative alone was probably more "mature" than your brain was capable of processing. It may not have been as good of a game as Ocarina, sure... and the sailing fetch quest WAS annoying - but even after recently having played the game again, I can unequivocally say that the game is, indeed, a "REAL" Zelda. In fact, it captured the original Zelda's (and Link to the Past's) art style and world view to the tee.
If you missed out on Wind Waker just because of the way you FEEL it looked, you missed out on one of the best games last gen. If your criteria for a good game revolves around the ESRB rating and the visual appearance, GTFO of here and step into a God of War 2 thread.
