"...that's even more shorter than the episodic releases!"

Umm... I dunno if that was a stab at bad grammar or not, but I see no emphasis added on to show that you had intended on doing it.

Why does every console/PC game shooter game that's moved to the arcade get the surname "Survivor"?

Anyway, the game looks like it's stripped down. And if not, then it'd be frustrating having to toss coins in constantly to progress the game and story. But I think this is something the Japanese audience would love. No one would play it here, even with the name recognition.

i think this game looks kinda fun. Another inventive way by valve to get their game out there. I'd love to see this on steam as another side game for you to play, i'd even pay for it.

I saw one of these machines, sans the chair, at an American arcade. To be specific, the arcade in the Harlem Irving Plaza (HIP) located in Chicago has a few of these. I'll try to get some pictures next time I'm there.

@ Zoe

I *think* it's because the game becomes more about seeing how far you can get (since you can't save) rather than completing the game or finding secrets or accomplishing side missions, etc.

That's just my guess, though.

@cringer8

Could be why. I was just noting that there are quite a few arcade-based or arcade-style games out there that are not only spinoffs of other series, but carry "Survivor" on the end of their titles.

Then again, the same could be said for a lot of companies slapping a "2" on the end of their product's moniker and selling it that way. Meh.

It would be nice if they included this version on steam, for people who own the origional. I'd put up 5 bucks for it ;)

I think you can save your progress on a little card dealy that the machine gives you. Like F-Zero and Initial D do.

#6 Core_12:

I feel your pain. Gamevideos ought to have a "download MOV or WMV here" link (like they have on the video pages) in their embeddable videos so we don't have to go searching for a different format every time.

I want Valve to turn this into a downloadable mod for us PC users! Heck, I'd even pay (but I am a completel HL freak).

You know, I'd bet good money that we'll see some of these pop up in the NYNY or Gameworks in Vegas. Keep an eye out.

Now I doubt this game would appeal to US players, mostly becuase it is a stripped down, dumbed down, easy as hell version of Half Life 2. Even more so now since there area lot of HL2 players already in the US who already have the original game. Now in Japan it MIGHT be a different story since first person shooters aren't exactly a popular genre there.

The point I am getting across is that this game might do better in areas where first person shooters aren't as popular as they are here in the US.

Just so you know, arcades in Japan are almost always packed with players and their fans. HL2 was always full (if I remember correctly, at the Sega place in Shinjuku and Akiba). Personally, I couldn't watch too long due to the large amount of human chimneys.
