Joystiq blogger bio: Kevin Kelly

Although I'm a transplant from Austin, TX to Los Angeles, CA, the Lone Star State is still home in my heart. Particularly because I can actually afford a home there. I've been working in feature films and television for the past ten years. Highlights include working at The Jim Henson Company, almost being run over by Harrison Ford on a motorcycle, getting my name in the credits on Drawn Together, and of course, avoiding the papparazzi:
- First game experience: My first game experience that I can remember was the magical day when Dad brought Pong home in a box from the office. Things just Katamaried out of control since then. Why hasn't some game developer released a next-gen version of Pong, by the way? With the graphical improvements they could give that thing, it just staggers the mind.
- Games that changed me: Odyssey (Intellivision), Raiders of the Lost Ark (Atari 2600), Zork (Commodore 64 -- come on man, Infocom was the shiz), Alternate Reality (on my beloved Apple IIc), Super Mario Bros. (Nintendo -- the original, baby), The Bard's Tale (Apple IIe), Wing Commander III (PC -- playing this probably cost me some GPA points in college), Doom (PC), Dragon's Lair (Arcade -- I want all mydamn quarters back!), Myst (Mac -- another game that killed some college knowledge through sheer in-game time spent on those damn puzzles), Goldeneye (Nintendo 64 -- how I used to love to shoot out those monitors), Kingdom Hearts (PS2 -- I used to work at Disney, so I have a soft spot for this one), Halo & Halo 2 (Xbox & Xbox 360), World of Warcraft (Mac -- yes, I got sucked into this bigtime), Animal Crossing: Wild World (DS Lite -- I'm obsessed with this thing)
- Potential sources of bias and conflicts of interest: I live in Los Angeles, the mecca of Western entertainment. Which means that I am subjected to a daily onslaught of things like Paris Hilton sightings, bad movies being shot around the corner, and the marketing of everything out the yin-yang. I'll be doing my best not to pass any of my cynicism on to you, dear readers. Oh, and I once worked as a contract employee for Microsoft. But, I own and love my Mac. I game on a Nintendo DS, an Xbox 360, a PS2, the aforementioned Mac, and sometimes my phone. We'll have underwear with games in them soon, mark my words.
- Why I'm blogging about games: I am a voracious reader of gossip, innuendo, and snarkyness, so of course the blog realm is just perfect. And I can never get enough gaming time in throughout the day, so I figured, why not write about them?
