I'm really surprised by Atari on this. Considering their current financial situation, I figured they'd want to rush this game out to shelves as soon as possible and make some profit. Instead, they're listening to and supporting Obsidian with their development, as well as giving a free pre-release toolset to customers that pre-order at certain stores. My fears about whther or not Atari is willing to support NWN2 post-release are now gone, it's clear that they want to, the only question is, will they be able to? And that's more up to us, instead of them.

Kudos to Atari, respect +

Crap, that's when FFXII comes out. Now I'm gonna have to budget time between the two, or just wait on getting FFXII.

I'm pretty sure Obsidian decided not to let Atari push them around this time, after the flak they got for rushing KoTOR II.

GOD! They better have it comming out on the 360 soon, with as much delays as it's had. I've been waiting for this for so long.

Assuming NWN2 plays the same way as NWN1, it would be very difficult to play with a 360 controller.

I'm glad it's being delayed instead of rushed out the door as previous poster said. I think Atari finally realizes the money making potential this game has and has decided not to fuck it up by rushing it out the door. I am afraid, however, that they will follow Bethesda's lead and starting charging for official mod downloads. This makes all too much sense, considering their financial status. Blizzard has been making a killing on Oblivion downloads, so Atari will be looking for thier piece of the pie as well. That said, to poster wanting this on 360, it ain't gonna happen if it remains the point and click interface that the original used. They'll piss off a lot of NWN fanboys if they "consolize" the interface for a gamepad. The Wii, however, would have the perfect input mechanism for this game. Nintendo should try to persue it...

Are they kidding? Releasing on the same day as FFXII is probably sales-share suicide. These guys are going to get forced to work a *long*-tail of sales to realize the NWN2's full sales potential, which is going to wind up costing them a lot more on their marketing/advertising budget. As much as I don't want to see the thing rushed, it's going to hurt them a lot financially to compete against SquEnix instead of getting a solid 1-2 weeks of heavy sales and with smaller long-tail.

Hazy, this isn't the movie box office. You think Atari/Obsidian cares about FFXII coming out on the same day? Different games, different platforms, different audience. OMG, PS3 and Wii are both launching in November! Are Sony and Nintendo crazy launching at the same time??!

@darko82
Last I checked, they were both RPG's and video games. Remember last holiday season when every publisher in existence chose the same 2 month window for their year's mega hits? Metroid Prime 2, Halo 2, WoW, Half Life 2... Point is, if they're going to delay it, why not just wait an extra month to get out of the way and save some advertising dollars?

Hazy, one game is a Japanese-style, fixed camera, turn-based RPG console release, while the other is a PC-based, D&D adventure with a tool editor and assloads of new maps arriving in the near future. Not all RPGs are created equal.

I don't think the makers of a top-selling PC series based on a classic 30 year-old franchise are concerned about being upstaged by a console game originally created for the Japanese market. Not to mention the fact that the mediocrity of the last FF movie and Dirge of Cerberus have tarnished the FF franchise.

Darko82's right, both games have different audiences and platforms so it really wouldn't affect NWN2's sales.

You can theorize all you want. But as a person on a limited budget, I had to decide between buying FF12 and NWN 2. And I chose FF12 for now. So case in point...launching on the same day cost them at least one sale...
