Weee.. Crappy Emo music seems perfect for swinging your arms around like a freak. Isn't MS doing something similar with it's Gears of War MegaDeath headlining tour?

Love the article title. Why would Nintendo want such whiney bitches to front their show? If you want to gain audience acceptance, 12 year old boy suburbanite pussy punk isn't the way to go.

I think the logic behind this is again to reach out to new markets. None of the emo kids I know have any video game systems. If Nintendo can convince them to start picking up video gaming, then it's yet another new market for them.

Yeah, I wouldn't be caught dead at it myself, but I can see why Nintendo would want to go there as part of their corporate strategy.

Now, whether or not it'll actually work... quite possibly. Like I said, I know some emo fans. I've had them more frequently of late ask me about video games, and the prospects of upcoming consoles. At first, they were asking mostly about the PS3 because of brand recognition - they knew of the PS2 and figured it would be just a continuation of that. But now, they're more and more asking about the Wii.

It's not where I'd put my promotional efforts, but it's not unreasonable to think it could work.

I'm no fan of emo, but that's what the college kids are into these days...

I'm old school and love all Megadeth even though most of there stuff since 1992+ has been crap...

I'm still getting a Wii and not 360 and it's coming to a place about 40 minutes drive from me. I can ignore the music and play the Wii in early October...sounds very tempting...

This has been a running promotion tour Nintendo's been doing for a few years now, it's not something new just to promote the Wii. Yeah the bands are always popular emo/pop rock suckage, but guess what, a lot of people listen to that crap. So they get people to go to the shows and try out their games. It's a good deal.

Makes more sense to have the System at Kiosks in Target, Wal-Mart, and in Malls. In fact if I was Nintendo I would have the Wii out in the middle of the malls in between the stores where they have little stands and so forth. That way people walking around would see the Wii.

That would give it more exposure than the Fusion Tour. How many grandparents and non-gamers are going to be at the Fusion Tour.

Furthermore many of us gamers who havent made our mind up yet if we are going to consider getting the Wii want to try it out. I am in that bunch. I am happy with my Xbox 360 and am not sure if I will get the Wii.

I think people are starting to confuse their gothic and emo stereotypes, since it is the new "sad / upset teenager" categorization.

Let's face it people, these are just going to keep coming along every generation, and the less you understand it and the more you hate the music: it means you're getting old. It starts as soon as you get out of high school.

Teenagers will ALWAYS be upset (over not being dead, over civil rights, over whatever), and then they will start fashion trends based on this.

I'm not going to say a word on the music or anything, since theat's all personal preference...but a friend of mine went to last year's Fusion tour to see Fallout Boy and Panic at the Disco (and see Legend of Zelda, duh) and was pretty impressed with the event.

Eh, I won't bring my CD player regardless of confiscation. I'd give their music a chance rather than refuse to accept that which I haven't experienced.

I feel sorry for those who can't enjoy a little something from each genre. The playlist I'm listening to has: My Chemical Romance, DMX, Metallica, Reel Big Fish, Def Leppard, and Queen. All of which are in that order in the middle of my playlist.

Wait, I don't know what I'm talking about? All I said was that none of the emo kids I know have video game systems. Unless you've found all the emo kids I know, and conclusively proved that they do have a video game system amongst them, I'm fairly certain I know exactly what I'm talking about and have asserted nothing that I can't back up.

As for people getting on emo... I'm personally of the belief that people don't have issue with emo per se (really, it's not all that different than alt rock in the 90's). People have issues with emo kids (who are much different than the alt rock fans in the 90's). I could easily listen to My Chemical Romance. But I couldn't stand listening to a fan of the band talk about them for more than five seconds.

I'd rather see a Nintendo show that is catering more to say, my parents generation. I see the Wii as an "easy listening" system, and would love to see Michael McDonald/Christopher Cross on the bill. Listening to McDonalds husky/yet of-so-gentle vocals whilst swinging around a wiimote would be a dream, for me at least.

I'm suprised no one has connected the previous Wii article with this one. In the previous article, Iwata said, "Selling the Wii is like selling cosmetics for men." Well, there are few places where there are as many guys wearing eyeliner than an Emo show, so I think I am beginning to see a trend in Nintendo marketing.

I'd talk about my parent's generation and the Wii, but that's just giving me horribly funny images of Pink Floyd's The Wall for the Wii. Move your Wiimote in time with the hammers, play a shave-off-your-hair-and-nipples minigame using the remote as the razor, and dodge the schoolteachers who try to turn you into hamburger.

Though now that I think of it, the idea of watching people drop acid, smoke up, and trying to play the Wii might be unintentionally hilarious.

Wow! I had no idea that anyone even remembered what REAL emo is nowadays. I wouldn't say emo has been dead for 15 years.. maybe somewhere between 5 and 10 years. I was still going to punk shows in 2000 with some popular emo bands. And the Romulan look was still in at those shows.

Wrong. Music has just gotten progressively worse over time.

Yeah, Nirvana was pretty pathetic compared to, say, Queen or Pink Floyd, but they're light years ahead of the utter shit permeating the airwaves today.

I can't wait to see how awful music is in 2015. Sigh.

This is the perfect place to market the Wii, you guys aren't looking at the bigger picture.

Walked into a Hot Topic lately? There's an entire wall of old school Nintendo shirts in most of them. XBOX and PS2 aren't cool, but playing the classic NES definitely is, and the Gameboy and even to a certain extent the DS have their audience with this crowd.

So show them a new console that can download tons of classic games with mommy and daddy's hard earned money? Buy it they shall. Make it so the bands they adore endorse it, and you have yourself a brilliant marketing ploy. Just because these aren't the hardcore gamers you want to be associated with, doesn't mean anything to Nintendo. These are the kids who will buy this thing, Hot Topic says so.

Its hilarious that nintendo is going to sponsor this - Emos are the biggest losers in teh world and guess what, playing 'fun', bright coloured kiddy games about princesses and toadstools is not going to fly, when the other Emos find out they will be ostracized, so this is going to flop!

Why, azn_1080p, I wouldn't say that at all. I've never had the urge to suddenly have sex with other men after listening to an emo song. Nor have any of my friends (of either gender, really - emo is not makeout music). I do have to ask why you'd say that - do you suddenly want gay sex upon hearing an emo song? If so, I'd recommend you sort your personal preferences out before complaining about music.

As for music today... I dunno, I think it's in a better state than it was 5-10 years ago. We managed to survive a bubblegum pop flareup and are heading back towards actual rocking out. My recommendation is check out the local scene, and see if you can get hook-ups from other local scenes.

I'll give a head start for anyone interested in a band local to Boston. They're called Bang Camaro. If Harmonix has any sense, their song "Lady Lightning" will be in Guitar Hero 2. If nothing else, you have to give props to a band that features 14 lead guitarists who also sing.
