the nintendo wi fi logo should not be in the tony hawk game... i like where it will be placed though. balances things out and looks nice

i like the design more than ps3 which looks like ms paint gone terirbly wrong. also, i really like the tyle. thats just my opinon, though

i thing the box art is terribly though. everything looks kiddy. tony hawk has terrible art and that NEEDS to be changed

If Nintendo's new take to console gaming means being different then, yes, it certainly succeeds in that respect. I like the asymmetry. It shows that the design is, well, designed.

And really, I don't understand why anyone would bash Joystiq for seeking our opinions. They have every right to post whatever they want. It's a blog after all.

Wow, ever since you guys fired Robert Summa, you're even worse than before.

Firstly, I can't believe the article doesn't even comment on the WiFi logo AT ALL.

Secondly... This is the silliest thing I've heard:

"I can only imagine, however, that some fancy shmancy branding agency helped Nintendo design the new box art and starting asking all these "Who am I?" questions for the Wii to answer. The ad group then determined that Wii provides a different take on gaming and decided an asymmetric box design should be used as well."

No. That's a stupid, stupid comment. It's not trying to answer any questions. It's not about asymmetry.

IT'S A WII REMOTE! DUH.

People saying it looks kiddy? What the fuck else did you want??? Tits and ass and a nintendo logo? What is the difference other than there is no Xbox or PS logo. Get a grip, this is petty shit.

I'd like to see an odd sized box with a little extra room on the left hand side and picture the Wii remote there. it may even help haples parents choose the right game for the system they have. (you know the whole "Which system does your son have?" "I don't know.. ah it's the one with the remote on that box there!"

I personally like the boxart for Zelda at IGn, it is the same but completely gold, but honestly I like the Wii boxart. it says "Wii" with no Nintendo on it (unless it's a Nintendo game). Thats Nintendo moving way from selling games because of their name, and simply putting "Wii" on it. It's a step up from the bland and rather boring GCN boxart, as well it is way better then the x360's boxart -- and just as good as the Bluray/HD-DVD cases.

But if you are talking about the cover -- like the Tony Hawk/Monkey Ball cover art, thats not Nintendo buy the actual company. Looking at Zelda's cover art, you see a much more mature, darker theme.

And even more puzziling, I have yet to found the cover art for any of those games on all of the sites mentioned above. Am I missing something?

Meh, it could be better, but oh well.

It's not like I display my game cases for everyone to see when they come over. They're stacked on one another, so the only thing you'll be able to see is the side.

To #16, you say that Nintendo needs better designers, yet the only one made by Nintendo up there is the one you like? Maybe you should have said SEGA and Activision.

I think it looks fine. A lot better than that ugly blue for PS3 games.

As a designer myself, I think these samples are superb, whether they're official or not. The Wii logo stands out, which is how it should be, so you can see distinctly which console it's for, in the case of 3rd party games. The actual artwork on them is not terrible, and definitely not kiddy... how the hell does anyone attach that word to everything these days? Try something new.

Can't wait to see shelves lined with cases such as these!

Looks plain enough but not so minimalistic as the master system games.

Hey anyone know if that rumor about emulating the Wii on the Sharp Elsamate AS110 & AS112 calculators is true?

I know both share the same processor except the calculator has a slightly higher clock rate. If so I might buy one as I saw them on EBay for $14.95 with dual LCD's.

I'm just wondering because now that the Wii is priced so high at $250 with just one controller, no CD or DVD, no hard disk, little graphics, & little CPU - I could buy two calculators and this way avoid the DRM and region locking hassles. The calculators accept 4GB SD cards so no problems fitting a wee Gamecube-ii game on it!

Who gives a crap on what the box art looks like; it's the games we want!!

Like the saying goes "Don't judge a book by its cover".

This is why I almost never visit this site. What a dumb over analytical post. Why not discuss the usage of the CMYK saturations.

These are the most badass covers ever imho. But, then again, I'm just a fanboy with every console in the book... When wii have control, it won't matter.

Have fun :)

The logo makes it look like it wants to roll right?

So, having it come down in the upper corner like that is bad?

Might want to remove that Style*Dash advert in the upper corner of your page then.

Dear Joystiq,

"Stories" like these is why you're completely useless as a gaming source. Instead of asking pointless, trivial questions, why not report on something meaningful? From what I've heard, there's something called "TGS" on the horizon. Ah, but being accurate without re-editing your content three times is too much to ask, I'd forgotten. In that case, let's continue creating empty content about empty subjects.

Signed,

Anyone

It does look a bit childish. I think that the Wii despite what Nintendo says is aimed at younger gamers and not pensioners as they seem to be saying.
