"You're a sick, sick man, who needs serious, serious help."

I don't even know how to comment on that, but it's hilarious. gj Ludwig...you perv...

"...is likely a good deal more fun than being eaten alive by a snarling, undead force..."

Ludwig, would you mind if I borrow this quote for some unspecified future review, with a promise for attribution?

Funghi really does look like a penis. With a face. And his name's "fun guy". And the game is "Touch Detective". And it's all about kid detectives.

I'm just saying I wouldn't put him on the box art is all.

OK, let me try this again in a little more obfuscated language since my first post was apparently too explicit.

The localization of "taking a bath with Marx" to "taking the bus with Marx" is exactly the kind of localization I oppose. The idea that the human body is not something to be feared is an idea we should ADOPT from Japan, not one we should resist by editing out harmless references just because some psychos over here will overreact.

And I think only Americans will draw the mushroom-as-penis conclusion. Remember, circumcision is rare pretty much everywhere else in the world.

"shambling towards you in search of an exposed brain."
Brain? Do you even WATCH zombie movies, or is the extent of your experience the awful "Return of the Living Dead" movies? I'm also guessing you've also never played a Resident Evil game before 4.

1) I'm comparing zombies to adventure gaming, a genre that usually requires some sort of cerebral action.
2) In pop culture, zombies are often depicted as craving brrraaaiinnnss.
3) There's more than one type of zombie. Being a non-existent creature (or ghoul, if you follow Romero) allows for that.
4) So serious! :)

Hooray for adventure games! I still say LucasArts are being rats for not even thinking of reviving their Scumm games for the DS. Frackers!
(I know there's homebrew, but come on...)

halobreaker:

I think you're referring to the hacking adventure game that looks a lot like Phoenix Wright.

It's called "Project Hacker Kakusei".

OtakuCode:

I see your point, but an E-10+ rated game is not the place to make that stand. When the people who make M rated games stop being so squeamish on nudity, then you can expect that stuff to slide by more often.

I gotta say, I'm a little depressed that no one made a quip about any "private dicks" in that interview. *sigh* I weep.

Actually, OtakuCODE, you're wrong. Because in the English version "Taking a bath with Marx" would have a sexual connotation (just because of how Americans would read it) whereas no such connotation was intended in the Japanese. Thus, a direct word-for-word translation would CHANGE THE MEANING of that line. The text has to be changed so that the line remains as innocent as it was originally. "Taking a bath" is something family/close friends might do when spoken in Japanese. It isn't important to the plot that they take baths together--it's a side comment. Thusly, "taking the bus" removes NOTHING from the game. It merely doesn't add in the idea of a sexual relationship to Western audiences.
